I DON'T HAVE AN INSIDE VOICE!

Tuesday, October 30, 2007

I have directed well over 50 projects in my life . . . not including the silly little things i did when i first had access to a camera (2 edited episodes of "Jacky Smith" and those adaptations of "Scary Stories Tell in the Dark" etc.) but even those had a certain air about them in terms of me trying to get a performance and look of a professional film.

I have always tried to learn from the other directors i've worked with or for to maintain character growth, depth and ensure that all character nuances are expressed (even if they don't make sense to the actors). Furthermore, I have tried to find people to assist me in all the ways that i either lack the interest or the time to do. I hate doing things like writing, lighting, acting, and so on, but I do believe i have a certain talent in finding the right people to do so.

Finally, afer years of TRYING to do this, I am starting to feel like I have a grasp on it. Finally after making the attempt to convince others that if they "trust me" I can come through, i feel like i am coming through. And not just for myself.

I believe I have gained trust from several of those I have craved for so long from those around me that excell and are interested in all the areas that i do not. I have found people to assist me in making my vision of filmmaking something possible.

So many people have contributed to this. Some of them have actually contributed by acts of negativity (but they've still contributed), however, I am choosing to remain focused on the positive and so there are several people that i want to thank for bringing me creatively to where i am at this point in my life:

RACHEL SAMPSON- There is no one better with whom to start this list. You have seen me at my lowest point in my life, and you have seen me make the most difficult decisions. You have watched me grow and you have watched me falter. Yet you are the one person above all others who has stayed by me through everything. Being part of just about every single project of the last 5 years, we have seen a lot together. There is a reason I introduce you as "God" to everyone. I expect no less than that level of respect for you while you are on a set. You rarely get anything less and as long as that is maintained, people can remain on my set. Thank you Rachel. I know those words aren't enough to properly express my gratitude, but they come from the deepest part of my soul I assure you. Here's to the future.

LEE BUCKLEY- Although the number of projects we've done together is low, I feel that you are a part of every project if only for the fact that you are my best friend and a constant source of inspiration for me both professionally and personally. You're among the most level-headed and logical people I know and it is a true honor having you in my life. Even if our friendship should one day end (given the events of the last two years, i hope you can understand where such a callous phrase would come from), I will always have the good you've done for me and from here on out. Let's keep it coming.

JAY-TEA CANGIALOSI- There is so much more to you than I am likely to ever really know, but what I do know I have a high amount of respect for. We've known eachother so short a time, I've seen what you can and have done both on your own and with/ for me. Your talent is incredible in any area that you make an attempt at and I am, i admit, constantly amazed by your ability to adapt and to perform be is as an acting performance or a crew performance. Your abrasive persona confuses and annoys several but people love you anyway. And i believe i have a certain level of understanding and it is something that i can and do appriciate. I am very happy that we've become friends as it gives me a reason to try and keep you around my projects as well as my life.

CHRIS ALAN- What can I say? We talked about "Irish Wake," and i came to you with more enthusiasm than any project I've ever had a passion for. I was insistant that this project have a reboot and you granted it. You allotted me a high level of trust even though our working relationship had not yet begun. I worked dilligently, but not tiresomely to ensure that that level of trust was not unwarrented. Niether project we've done has a final edit, but they're both relatively young, and either way, my job as director was, i believe, met. Your position as producer was absolutely flawless and i will never truly be able to thank you for the artistic freedom and rebirth you have bestowed upon me. As with everyone else here, there are no words to properly thank you.

BRANDY MONTANO- Who could ever have known that a girl i worked with nearly ten years ago could through chance (or fate?) suddenly have such and immidiate importance to my life? Your persona raidiaes much the same way that so many others around me does with positivity and dilligence, but in a way that is so much stronger than so many people i know. Your aura is nearly blinding and anyone lucky enough to work with you needs to understand that fact.

JESSICA OSBOURNE- Easily the hardest-working woman in the city of Albuquerque, I have become convinced that you must own a sci-fi devise that freezes time. How else is it possible that you can accomplish all that you do and still make it all of such high quality? Musician, actress, writer, even make-up. My GOD, woman. How on earth do you do it and still maintain a professional and personal life. Far too few people seem to have the understanding that artistic endevours are not a hobby, but should be a passion. I do believe you have that understanding as well as an understanding of so many other things that have nothing to do with art.

MORE WILL COME . . . but for now i'm tired. So let's call this "Part 1."
