Is it Still Called Drowning?

A disturbing calm
drawn upon
the surface of this pond

I'm falling under water,
seemingly with ease

I wonder
and I wonder,
is it still called drowning…
if I never
struggle to breathe?

The water's calm and…
you're gone
with so much by your side-
some memories and
some dreams I had
before I died

I'm drowning without you
by my side,
while my only reason
is to have
somewhere to hide

I'm drowning without ripples
of any tide
Without a splash of desperation…
not a breeze

If you could see my face,
you'd say I was happy,
seemingly with ease

I wonder
and I wonder,
is it still called drowning…
if I never even try to breathe?

Another wonderful poem.
Great imagery and rhyme.

Love the line: is it still called drowning…
if I never even try to breathe?

Defintely one of my new all-time Jon Sanders favorites. I've always thought drowning wouldn't be a bad way to go. I know that's not what you're talking about, but it's all kind of relative.

Very Amazing as usual--

Sometimes I think it would be better to accept the fate
then always fight it so hard--
but fortunately for those who love us
the body out wills the brokeness of our hearts or souls
And even in our unconsciousness we will fight to survive.

That is really an interesting question, Jon.  The poem is great and it has interesting images that evoke deep feelings and reflection on life.  However, the question itself is deeply thought-provoking - Is is drowning if you never try to breathe?
