Bibi|SF Proudly Pledges $1,500 to Meem's "Bareed Mista3jil, True Stories" Bay Area Tour!

Bibi is proud to pledge $1,500 of Bibi's Masquerade 3 proceeds in order to bring a Meem member from Beirut to the Bay Area to take part in staged readings of chosen pieces from "Bareed Mista3jil, True Stories" in December. Happy Hyder tells us, "Our goal is to raise funds through donations at the door, book sales, and by introducing a Meem representative to international funders. These events will also raise awareness of the realities of queer women in the Middle East."

"We consider Bibi an ideal sponsor for these events because of your standing in our community, and the Bay Area's queer community at large, as a funding organization of local, national and international LGBT SWANA (South West Asian, North African) organizations."

"Bareed Mista3jil, True Stories" was published in Lebanon by the organization Meem which focuses on Lesbian, bisexual and transsexual women in Lebanon. The book, originally published in English, is being translated into Arabic and will be published in Arabic when the funds are available. These events are to help raise awareness of the book and to raise funds for an Arabic version of Bareed Mista3jil.

Meem began as a small network of queer women in Lebanon and now supports a space where these women come together to socialize as well as to meet for support of their varied needs in coming out and in living as queer women and in community organizing.
