In the daily act of living
It's so easy to complain
About all the things that I don't have
And the things that cause me pain.
But I want to stop and thank my God
Though it may sound cliche
For all the things I take for granted
Each and every day.
I have a home where I feel safe
And I can snuggle with my cat
It may not seem like much to you
But I thank God for that.
I get to hear great music
I can read and I can write
And it's not as good as it once was
But I still have my sight.
I have friends who stand by me
Through all my ups and downs
Even when I'm undeserving
They still hang around.
I'm thankful for our world leaders
With whom I often disagree
Praise the Lord, it isn't my job
To run this warring country.
I thank God for my church
And the freedom to worship there
And for the family of believers
Who lift me up in prayer.
I'm thankful for the soldiers
Who won that freedom for me
Leaving behind the ones they love
And the homes where they'd rather be.
I have a close-knit family
I thank God for them each day
They're the ones who know me best
Yet, they love me anyway.
God's given so much I don't deserve
But each day that I'm living
I want to have a grateful heart
In the spirit of thanksgiving.
