Someone asked me if Pagan is Witch Craft. Technically, a lot of people use that term but a lot of us Pagans don't really use it in a demeaning or insulting way. So for those who are stereotypical or have no knowledge of Paganism (yet!), let me break it down for you again with questions:
Do you cast spells? Yes and no. I don't cast spells to make someone fall in love with me. That's against ANY human's morals. We use them more as guides... Kind of like a seeing-eye dog.
So you don't believe in God? Technically, we don't believe in the Christian God. Depending on our path (Google it), we believe in many deities.
So you worship false idols? No, they're not false idols. In many stories from Plato and the other scholars, they were once real Gods and Goddesses who rained down from the skies onto the people of Greece and other areas.
What are the rituals for? For me, rituals are a way of welcoming the new season, a new personal event, or a way of seeking a possible solution to a problem through meditation.
But on that movie, they use animal as sacrifices. Yea, on "The Craft" but that's mostly for the Hollywood aspect. Most Pagans believe in not harming anything from Mother Nature.
Do you wear pointy hats and ride a broom? Now why would I do that? That's just a cartoony depiction of what they THINK past "witches" looked like.
Do you worship the devil? No, do you?? It's a common misconception construed through-out the history of Paganism. It's a Christan heresy. Therefore, if Pagans don't believe in Christianity, how can we worship a Christan character?
What's the different between "magick" and "magic"? "Magick" is a way to differ itself from the "magic" of card tricks.
Do all Pagans have a black cat like those on Halloween? Most Pagans like to call them familiars, which you can Google as well. But not even Pagan has a black cat as a familiar. I personally have a Calico kitty, named Smokie.
Why do most Pagans think that Christians took all their "Holidays"? Not every Pagan believes that. It's just a matter of what you believe and what they believe. The world may never know.
Are you a witch? Some Pagans like to be called a "witch" and some don't. I personally just prefer the term "Wiccan".
What is Wicca? Another path of the many paths of Paganism.
How many paths are there? To be honest, there are new paths forming all the time so it's hard to keep up.
Do you recruit members into Paganism? No, we believe in making the choice for yourself.
Do Wiccans practice "Black Magic"? No, because it "black magic" is used to hurt or harm others and that is against the Wiccan Rede and of course, our morals.
Can someone be Christian and a Pagan? Personally, I don't see how that's possible. We don't believe in God and most Christians are against the use of spells and believing in other deities. But perhaps a "Christian Pagan" is a person who is practicing Paganism without anyone knowing but going to a Christian church to satisfy those around them. There are others who consider themselves Christo-Pagans because they believe in the Wiccan Rede or whatever. This is a touchy subject so I prefer not to answer.
Have anymore questions for me? Let me know... We'll set this straight!
