I've been working on a few projects lately that have me wondering about epilogues. So I want to hear from readers, what say you? Like 'em? Love 'em? Hate 'em? Does length of book affect whether or not you want an epilogue?

Depends on the story, and sometimes the author. Carl Hiaasen, for example, writes hilarious epilogues to his mysteries.
In fact, I recall a big story where his publisher had accidentally put out his book without one, and readers wanted to know where it was!

I think if a book shows potential to become a series, an epilogue can provide a good bridge to tempt readers to buy more. Personally, though, I think some things in an epilogue can be achieved in the book's last chapter if done correctly.

Yay I can finally read this blog lol!!! Drat MySpace! I like epilogues, it gives me a feel of how the story is starting out. I agree with Leigh it depends on the author and of course how it is written. The longer the book the better I think, but it also adds spice to the story when first starting out or ending it. I hate stories left undone in the end and I'm like "wth?? is that it?"... I need to feel closure unless I know for a fact there will be a continuation of that book in a series =)~

woops i meant ending not starting out but both prologue and epilogues work nicely in breaking a story in or out =)~

I think epilogues are okay if they're not too long.

Is not too long like 2 pages or 5? What's the longest epilogue you've read?

They vary, and I don't mind reading them. But I'm always told to fit things in during the story and skip prologues, especially if they're more back story.  Unless, they're absolutely vital to the story or book you're writing, I guess it's best to skip them...but sometimes an epilogue will showcase a character in sort of a flash back in time and then move on to the present...in that case they're kind of necessary.
