Beleth of NOCTEM
By: Miss Metal Magdalene

Miss Metal Magdalene: When did Noctem first start out and who formed the band? Do you still have the original members? How did you all meet?

Beleth: Noctem started in 2001, Exo and I formed the band. No, only we two. Since we were very young we were looking for a form of expression, We met each other for the first time when we were children, then a few years later we formed Noctem.

Miss Metal Magdalene: When you first started out what was your plan for the band?

Beleth: Create the most perfect war machine of all times, a way to express what we are and what we feel about this rotten society without quality values.

Miss Metal Magdalene: Have you plans changed in any way?

Beleth: No, never

Miss Metal Magdalene: What is the Death..Black metal scene like in Spain?

Beleth: It was really fucked for a long time, but now it is growing up with really good bands, good festivals too.Maybe in four or five years we will have a very strong scene, this can be only the beginning.

Miss Metal Magdalene: Do you believe in God? Satan?

Beleth: Not in God, not in Satan, only in a spiritual way. Deitys aren't like this society represents them. I believe in good and evil, not names for these ones, I believe on my own, I'm my own king.

Miss Metal Magdalene: What are your views on organized religion? Do you incorporate this in your music.

Beleth: Not normally, to be honest we don't want to dig into that theme in this new cd, I've written only one song that can be considered really against religion. Generally we hate all kinds of religion.

Miss Metal Magdalene: The vocal stylings of Noctem are amazing!!! Are you getting more recognition on this as your popularity grows?

Beleth: Thanks. Yes, a lot of people like this style of voice, everybody says that it is amazing, But now in "Divinity" you can recognize an evolution. Exo, our producer and I had lots of conversations about this and we decided that the best option would be doing the most original and personal growls that I could reach...and we got it!!! It has been a hard job and it's a big evolution. Anyway, the most important thing for us is the whole sound of the band.

Miss Metal Magdalene: Were any of you in bands before Noctem? What kinds?

Beleth: Yes, but nothing similar compared to Noctem. This has a very different level of work. When we formed Noctem we had a very seriousidea of what we wanted and how could we reach it.

Miss Metal Magdalene: Is there any kind of music that your really hate? What is it?

Beleth: A lot!!! It will takes me until tomorrow...there are a lot of shit bands playing over the world, it's better not say names...it will take me until tomorrow.

Miss Metal Magdalene: You describe you music in many instances as violent. Why?

Beleth: Well...it's the way we feel it. In our shows the people feel that in the same way too. We love to see people doing a lot of violent dances and rituals. I love to do it in the same way with them. You can see a lot of injuries, broken eyebrows, broken hands, we've seen a lot of things.

Miss Metal Magdalene: Who were some of your influences growing up?

Beleth: Maybe other death metal bands, in a more melodic way, but generally we still have the same influences.

Miss Metal Magdalene: How do you feel about the music industry as a whole in Spain. Are there a lot of politics?

Beleth: A lot of shit, like over the world.

Miss Metal Magdalene: Are you looking for a label? Do you have a producer yet for the cd? If so who?

Beleth: We are not looking for a label at the moment. Yes, Mario Jezik produced the album. He was perfect for the "Divinity", 'cause we had the same vision about how the album must sound and the best way for reaching it.

Miss Metal Magdalene: What do you look for in a producer?

Beleth: That's simple: sickness, deprivation, no mercy, hahahaha...

Miss Metal Magdalene: How has your latest tour in Europe been?

Beleth: Really disturbed and sick. We were destroying heads at Spain, Portugal, France, U.K, Belgium and Italy. Spending a lot of days on the road fucking everything, everywhere, every time.

Miss Metal Magdalene: I see you booked some recording time in January. When can we expect a new cd?

Beleth: Yes!! We are recording our debutalbum at Vienna, in the studios of our label Noisehead records. The album is titled "Divinity" and it will be released for the 20th of April in Europe and the 20th of May in the States by Relapse records

Miss Metal Magdalene: And what can we expect when we listen to this cd?

Beleth: The better sound of the band until the moment, 100% Noctem. It's a metal cd without mercy, from the first full song, a 230 bpm line of killer guitar riffs with the most powerful vocal lines we've ever made. Telling the story of the Atlantis civilization by our violent and spiritual point of view. We have very good collaborations in the album, like the orchestra arrangement for the song "Divinity", composed by Christos Antoniou from Septic Flesh; and the collaboration of Leal in the song "Atlas Death", by Leal from Forever Slave.

Miss Metal Magdalene: What's your favorite song to perform and why?

Beleth: I loved to perform "God among slaves", but this new one will be fucking amazing. You must see the new beginning of our shows, we're very active from the first minute and everything just happens, you have to see it live to understand what I'm talking about.

Miss Metal Magdalene: Would you like to tour outside of Europe? Maybe come to the states some day?

Beleth: Yes, of course. Now all the new dates and tours for this year aren't closed yet, but for sure we will be touring for a long time. It will be fucking killer if we go to the States and destroy north American stages.

Miss Metal Magdalene: How important is it for you to have a strong stage presence?

Beleth: It's inside ourselves, we feel it in that way and you can see it if you come to our shows. It's a basic law in Noctem to have a disturbed attitude in the band, this is a way of life, not a job.

Miss Metal Magdalene: How would you describe a Noctem show?

Beleth: Violent, disturbed, depraved...that's the reason of our attitude, spitting blood, skulls on stage, rituals using bleeding hearts. The fans get a lot of dark energy...they love it.

Miss Metal Magdalene: What are your fans like?

Beleth: Sick people that love violence and enjoy being on the front line, that are the best fans and the fans that I most like.

Miss Metal Magdalene: Thank you so much for taking the time to do this with us. Is there anything else you would like to add?

Beleth: We're going to destroy all the fucking stages. This has been very serious. We will be coming soon to the USA too destroying your fuckin garenas. I'll see you down the stage, I'll see you on the battlefield.
