I got my first electric guitar at Sears. It was a piece of shit The Paul copy (didn't know that when I was ten). It had no brand. It was just a brown clunky piece of wood. If you know how to play guitar, you would hate playing this guitar.
I grew to hate it and eventually I began abusing it with screwdrivers. My nephew owns it now. His dad repaired it. It still sucks. That was a sucko guitar. Nice job nameless guitar factory! Thanks for churning out such a junky piece of wood. Although I don't think my mom would have paid more than $75 for an electric guitar, especially since I was so loud and noisy on the beat up acoustic that my sister's husband gave me.
That one was even worse. Painted red white and blue like Buck Owens, it had this springy chime. I later dubbed it The Mystical Guitar because I noticed all the weird microtones it created had kind of a sitar sound. Or not a sitar but something more ... mystical. I knew nothing about mysticism. One rainy night in my 2nd Ave apartment I extemporaniously recorded a little ditty called "I'm Going to Go Out"
lyrics to "I'm Going To Go Out" were as follows
I'm going to go out I'm going to go out I'm going to go out Tonight
repeat 2x
No I won't stay home and drink (dream) alone and pretend I have something I can't get
So I'm going to go out I'm going to go out I'm going to go out tonight
I think that's how it went. I can't seem to find that tape which is tragic for me, not because of the superior performance or songcraft, but that it was a rain recording (meaning it was raining and the recording picked it up). I've done a number of these and while the song is usually blurry that moment captured, the rain sound are drop dead beautiful to me. It doesn't rain here very often you see.
Anyway The Mystcal Guitar is probably buried in a scrapheap somewhere. Go find it and it will bring you magic.
