YES, finally!! I know....I've been SLACKING this week and I'm sorry. I've had some personal issues that I've had to deal with and my mind just didn't have the capacity for anything extra. But I'm finally updating!! :)
This week's Twilight Saga Inspired Song Recommendation is
"Make This Go On Forever" by Snow Patrol
This song feels like Edward's point of view in the section of New Moon that takes place between their release from the Vulturi in Italy all the way to the vote for Bella's mortality at the Cullen's house.
I'm sure a lot of you have heard this song already so lets see if you agree with my explaination of how it fits with Twilight for me. :)
FIRST, here are the lyrics:
Please don't let this turn into something it's not
I can only give you everything I've got
I can't be as sorry as you think I should
But I still love you more than anyone else could
All that I keep thinking throughout this whole flight
Is it could take my whole damn life to make this right
This splintered mast I'm holding on won't save me long
Because I know fine well that what I did was wrong
The last girl and the last reason to make this last for as long as I can
First kiss and the first time that I felt connected to anything
The weight of water, the way you told me to look past everything I had ever learned
The final word in the final sentence you ever uttered to me was love
We have got through so much worse than this before
What's so different this time that you can't ignore
You say it is much more than just my last mistake
And we should spend some time apart for both our sakes
The last girl and the last reason to make this last for as long as I can
First kiss and the first time that I felt connected to anything
The weight of water, the way you told me to look past everything I had ever learned
The final word in the final sentence you ever uttered to me was love
The last girl and the last reason to make this last for as long as I can
First kiss and the first time that I felt connected to anything
The weight of water, the way you told me to look past everything I had ever learned
The final word in the final sentence you ever uttered to me was love
And I don't know where to look
My words just break and melt
Please just save me from this darkness [x2]
And I don't know where to look
My words just break and melt
Please just save me from this darkness [x2]
And here's a more detailed breakdown of the different lyrics and how I see them applying to the story:
"Please don't let this turn into something it's not
I can only give you everything I've got
I can't be as sorry as you think I should
But I still love you more than anyone else could"
This fits for the struggle Edward has with trying to convince Bella that he is really there and not dead and that she's not dead either....also the struggle he has with making her believe that he truely does love her and always has and that when he told her he didn't, "it was the very blackest form of blastphemy".
"All that I keep thinking throughout this whole flight
Is it could take my whole damn life to make this right
This splintered mast I'm holding on won't save me long
Because I know fine well that what I did was wrong"
This matches perfectly for me with the situation. It's pretty self-explainatory, but the second half of this verse basically is saying that he knows that the current state of things between him and Bella as well as just Bella herself is very weak and broken and right on the brink of destruction, and with the last line he's taking full responsibility for the whole thing.
"The last girl and the last reason to make this last for as long as I can
First kiss and the first time that I felt connected to anything
The weight of water, the way you told me to look past everything I had ever learned
The final word in the final sentence you ever uttered to me was love"
This section really speaks for itself....it just feels like Edwards connection to Bella and how he would explain his unending need and devotion to her as he's pleading with her to believe that he's real and he loves her and he's never leaving again.
"We have got through so much worse than this before
What's so different this time that you can't ignore
You say it is much more than just my last mistake
And we should spend some time apart for both our sakes"
At first glance, this doesn't fit....but even though it's not an exact match, if you think about it, this verse does work....even though Bella and all of us know that Edward leaving is the absolute worst thing that's ever happened so far to Bella and Edward, he still doesn't quite fully grasp just how bad it's been for Bella and how much she needs and loves Edward just as much as he does her. So his mindset at this point would kind of fit this....and the last line about taking a break for both their sakes, not exactly what Bella says or wants, but also at this point, she is oblivious to the way Edward truely feels and she has convinced herself that he is going to leave her again, so it kind of fits that way.
"And I don't know where to look
My words just break and melt
Please just save me from this darkness" [x2]
And this just captures the whole helpless feeling of Edward in this section of New Moon. How he feels like no matter what he says, he can't get through to Bella.
So what do you guys think? Questions, comments, suggestions?? :)
