So this past Sunday (June 7) I rushed out the door after a really long week and an even longer weekend, and headed down to Snug Harbor. I only really knew that KPsoloman5000 was playing who on his own it turns out is well worth the three bucks I paid to get in. Kyle Perkins has defiantly broken out as solo artist after reaching local fame as bass man for the punk quartet 25MTG. With songs about depression, alcohol, the “Solo-Man” drags his audience into a blissful melancholy of raspy vocals, and acoustic greatness. Sunday was defiantly one of his best shows yet.
The second band of the night to my surprise was none other than Rock Hill’s very own “The Smokers” the four piece southern punk band kicked some serious ass and at the same time found time to poke fun at themselves with their “noodle pitting”. They seemed to play all out for almost the entire set. With great covers and a stage show that was reminiscent of early Clash and vocals that sounded a lot like Joe Strummer this band is one that has to be seen to truly be appreciated.
The final band of the evening was “Bracing for Impact”. Made up of almost the entire cast from “The Smokers” it seemed I wanted to call it a night but decided to give them a chance. Turns out not only can this new band separate themselves from their other project but they brought the energy and party atmosphere through the roof; which by the way is no small feat when you only have ten people in the room. Over all This was a great Sunday filled with lots of energy and just that good old fashioned fun we all used to feel at shows, which seem to have become over run with fights and aggression. My hat is off to these guys for not being afraid to just have a good time and be goofy if only for one night.
*it's worth noting, as if you didn't know, the noodle pit is something we borrowed form Darken The Sky for the night after having played with them the day before. No disrespect meant to DTS, we're not trying to steal the noodle pit from you, not that we could if we tried.
