What a tangled song we sing

[01 May 2009 | Friday]
Here's the lyrics to "Rescued by the Rapture," which was completed on April 30th, demoed, recorded on a first take with vocals overdubbed at 11:35 p.m., and uploaded to MySpace today. INTERESTING FACT: This song started out as a rap (notice the first two bars). Enjoy!

Cross the finish line with less
Unless you’re on a quest to fix the excess
I shake it off like’s it’s nothing too special
Even though you know you got skills
Go play the old ghost in this old superstition
Run and hide behind the words of someone else

God might save me, but something else made me
Maybe some day we can try and figure it out

Take those insides out and dress
For something that’s not even close to success
You play it off like it’s all in fun
Even though I know it’s even less
Go play the string section in this old composition
Realize that conversation and love and war is a two-way street

If it were up to me, this pain wouldn’t have perched itself upon your shoulder
But you had other plans
If it were up to me, we’d both be wondering not how it ended, but how it began
