Okay, here is a blog. We are remodeling our home. Sounds simple enough, right? Wrong. We are living in the midst of daily demolition and trash removal. Shane took a picture of the trash before it was hauled off today. This is where I give props to our garbage collectors, for they are our heroes. If you could have seen the pile of junk they took today. No joke, it was close to a ton....easy. Anyway, I am taking on the smallest bedroom as my own project. I am currently scraping the floor. I wish it were as easy as typing the word s-c-r-a-p-i-n-g, but it's not. After removing a layer of linoleum and two layers of vinyl tile, I discovered a nasty combination of underlayment and adhesive. Lovely. So, I scrape. I scrape when Betsy naps, I scrape when Dora is on, I scrape when Grandpa takes the toddlers to Tokens and Tickets. I am almost done. I'd say 5/7 of the floor is finished. Unconventional fraction, unconventional project. It feels good. I have gone through 4 days of no neck mobility, shoulder knots, and sciatic flair ups. I must say, I haven't been all that active and it's done me good to turn a leaf. So, after my scraping, which I hope to complete by Friday....I will drop the two outer walls. They're plaster and they're mean. After the plaster comes the lathe....the little wood strips used to hold the plaster in place. Under that is nothing but studs...not like Chippendales or horses, but the wall frame. That means there is NO insulation keeping the cold out...in ANY of the exterior walls of the house. So, I will put some in. Pink, pretty, but itchy. After the insulation comes a vapor barrier....a neat name for clear plastic sheeting that covers it all and keeps the moisture out. Once that is all said and done, it's time for drywall...mudding....sanding...priming...and wallpaper. I don't usually favor wallpaper, but I'll make an exception in this case. (I picked the rolls up for $.50 and they kick bum!) The room I'm working on will be Betsy's room. I can't wait to finish it. I'll be roaring and grunting like a man. I hope to bring all of my female counterparts some inspiration and encouragement. It's not hard. I've watched Shane and helped him dozens of times. Get the tools, the time, and the patience, and you'll get the job done. I do not recommend doing it all while living in it....especially with 4 kids...but whatever....we got the house for nothing. That's a different story. So, stay tuned for pictures and more stories....that is if you're interested. I may even put together a video or two....who knows!? Wish me luck! Send me arm muscle vibes.
