I was reminded by the secretary at my church that I haven't blogged in a while. There are many excuses for that but none stand up to the need to do one. So, here goes...:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
Movie goers desire justice rather than reality! I was thinking of the perfect ending for the show lost. This was what I came up with. Everyone on the island dies except for one person. That person is obsessed with making sure the clock is reset. But something happens to where S/he is badly injured. Just as the clock rolls down to launch mode or whatever, the person furiously types in the reset code. The thing is, they will slowly slip into unconsciousness. As they reach for enter button they cant hit it, the sequence initiates, mass chaos ensues for about three seconds then BOOM! The screen goes black with no explanation of anything, no resolution, and leaves you feeling a mass amount of different emotions. I have never heard of an assassination due to a bad ending, but I think that would be a first.
Reality sucks. We desire resolution. We don't want reality. There is something deep within us that desires justice and resolution. The problem is that Hollywood is making the wrong look right and the right look wrong. Thus distorting our view of justice and grace. But that is a whole other blog. This one is about our intense desire for justice in a fallen world. So lets reel it back in.
Why do we get so mad about the injustices of the world? Yet then again, why do we not get mad about the injustices of the world. When I say there are 100,000 orphans in Ukraine, what is the response. In a perfect world, you would be furious. But we live in a fallen world. Sadly we can skip injustice like nothing until it is injustice we feel is against us. But the reality is that the world is fallen, and the world is real. So Justice in it's purest form would seem unjust. So then you need to look at grace. We say that we give grace, but in this fallen world justice would be death for all. So we are all under grace right? So how can we demand justice when we aren't being treated justly? Or am I talking about mercy? I think so. So I have really no clue what I am talking about. Here is my theory though. We have a God given desire for justice. But in that desire we know we can't be just. Therefore we know we need to be punished. Therefore we long for mercy. But if we have a skewed view of God, then mercy has to be given by how good we are. So that is when we start comparing ourselves to others. This is when the injustice of the world slips by us in a furry of our own injustices. Ok, It is getting late and I am starting to loose grip on reality. I think this is a lot of randomness, but it is a start to getting past writers block.
Oh, for those who are interested. My roommate is cousins with Amberlin's lead singer.
