Kenny Charles didn't grow up in the country, as a matter of fact he was born in Chicago and raised in it's Portage Park area, but as you hit play on his debut full length, "Days Like This" you will find yourself relating to his lyrics as he pulls you into the album with the inspiring, uplifting "Don't Give Up." The whine of the fiddle over his rock-tinged, country styled vocals will easily have you perking up your ears. The country vibe that first draws you into the album is shown throughout on tracks like "Lucky One" and "Days Like This," which is without a doubt one of the standouts on this album as he sings a story of what his ideal marriage and family life would be like. Charles influences range from country music to more pop based rock artists like Bryan Adams, Edwin McCain, etc… and he never loses touch with his rocking influences on this album as he shows on tracks like "In The House That We Once Lived" and "Take Me Away." In the liner notes of the album, Charles took the time to tell the listeners the stories of how the songs came together thus adding a personal touch to them and answering my original question. This album is chalked full of everything that a solid, country album should be. Tug and your heart songs, upbeat rockers, good stories, and a combination of influences that is sure to attract country and rock fans alike.
