I've been checking out the streamed album that Them Crooked Vultures have put up on YouTube. It's ironic that they would do that, since I've been thinking about doing the very thing for my own music. Needless to say, there's no way I could afford to do a series of actual videos. But I've been thinking about the possibility of drawing some still images to use as a static backdrop. So, for instance, "This Old Dawg" could have different drawing for each verse and chorus. That would be, at most, about 10 images for the entire song. But the effect would be similar to actual moving images. You'd get the ideas across. Plus, featuring my original artwork would show off my art skills.

I've seen plenty of other people put up music with static images in the background. I've always thought it could be an effective way to put up music on a popular video site without putting out a lot of money. But I've thought it was a little cheesy, or at least could be. So to see that a serious band like Them Crooked Vultures is fine with putting up the entire album with nothing but the album cover and a song title as a backdrop somewhat validated my idea. I'll have to look into this.

As for Them Crooked Vultures, if you haven't heard of them yet, you soon well. The band members are John Paul Jones from Led Zeppelin, Dave Grohl from Nirvana and The Foo Fighters, and Josh Homme from Queens of the Stone Age. A supergroup if there ever was one. Their album is the first release I've been excited about in years. Hell, it's been so long that I've actually looked forward to an album coming out that it's giving me flashbacks and making me feel somewhat like a kid again. Hell, even if the music sucked (which it doesn't - it's very good), I'd appreciate the band for that alone.

I highly recommend Them Crooked Vultures to anyone who misses the days when there were bands who actually put out decent music. I especially recommend them for those youngins who've been aural cotton candy for most of their lives. Here's you're chance to actually sink you teeth into something. Hopefully once you've tasted something of substance you won't go back to feeding from the music industry's feed trough.
