Hi. Miguel here. Some of you know the version of "17 years" that was on the Bad Astronaut/Armchair Martian split. Well, that was a song I wrote with Deminer. It was first conceived in 1997 and appeared on our first 7", WE ARE ONE, shortly after. When I started playing with Armchair, Joey Cape kept buggin' me to let Lagwagon do a cover of it. I wasn't too sure about what I wanted to do with it back then, but when I was recording HANG ON TED with Jon and Paul, Paul and I ended up laying down the bass and drum tracks for the song. It was gonna be completed at a later date. It sat around for a while and I guess it wasn't gonna fit on a Lagwagon record, so Joey and Jon got together to finish the song for the split. I was stoked that they both were gonna sing on it. You know, a duet, so to speak. Jon also decided to change the original key of C to G, more like the way he would sing it. So yeah, they dumped my bass lines and got Marko to re-record it. The bastards. Nah, I'm honored to have them playing a song I wrote. Looking back at the whole thing, it's pretty darn cool. The funny thing is that we were trying to release the Deminer CD, WOES AND SO'S, with the updated recording of the song before they released the split. As most people in bands know, shit takes a lot longer than you think. So they kinda beat me to the punch by a few months. What you are listening to here, is the latest version that Deminer put out. After a while, we'll put up the version on the split just so you can kinda see the difference and be thoroughly wowed by our musical mastery. That was a joke. So, yeah, I know this is probably a lot more than you bargained for when you opened this here message. I hope you like it, nonetheless. We'll play this song live if you see us.
See ya soon, Miguel
