Welcome to Seattle Hempfest 2009. Our 100% volunteer
staff has been working all year long to put together a world class cannabis rally;
because it has never been more clear that our nation’s pot laws are unjust,
immoral, and counter-productive.
You may not find the same corporate music, sponsors and
staff that you would at other, more conventional events. We think that’s a
plus. We feature one of the largest selections of free live music in the
Pacific Northwest, and this year we have added a comedy stage for your
hilarity, called (what else?) the Laughs Comedy Stage. This year we had around 700
bands submit their stuff to play, and the result is a kick ass year for music.
Seattle Hempfest presents a virtual who’s who of national
activists, authors, and experts working to defeat prohibition. You should check
out the giant Hemposium tent near the south gate, which features panel
discussions, presentations, and keynote speakers. This year we are working with
the Hemp Industries Association and Dr. Bronners to bring you all kinds if
information on industrial hemp, and they will be located in that area.
T he complexity of design and attention to detail required
to produce a large special event in a major urban metropolis is quite challenging,
and we assume that most people have no idea how much work goes into making
something like Hempfest a reality. Over 100 people meet all year around, and it
takes 1,000 people filling staff shirts to make the event happen.
Hundreds of hours of meetings take place, and they happen
every month of the year. There are over 56 crews , and you can sign up on our
website at http://www.hempfest.org. Pick
your crew and shifts. The freedom you win may be your own.
Hempfest costs a lot of money to produce. Last year Hempfest
cost $260,000. The event is free to attend, there is no ticket price. Please
come to Hempfest and contribute by donating in the bins or buckets. This economy is sobering, and we need to come
back every year until we win this thing. This is the 18th year we
have been fighting for your freedom. Please help us stay strong by pitching in
and making a difference by donating. Hempfest is 100% volunteer; your money
goes straight to the cause.
There are still vending spot, sponsorships and volunteer
positions open. Go to hempfest.org and check us out.
It’s coming up soon. We can’t wait to hang out with you and
discuss the future.
Take care and toke it easy.
