Art from new album -Sirens Of The Apocalypse- These are the photos from the CD booklet without the extra drawing and writing/lyrics that i put right over the photos themselves. Each relates to a specific song.
Tasja Keetman took all the pics. And performance artist, all-around visionary
Ego Sensation is the character in each.
Tasja Keetman's photography site

for the song
Rock Mona Lisa. This was taken at the Met museum in Manhattan. note me in the back. this covert shoot in the sculpture garden turned into weird art in itself as we were navigating for unobstructed shots, so out of place among the upscale tourists

for
Buddhist Girl. This is Times Square. We had a crazy moment when Ego was seated in a yoga pose in the median area, and 3 Hindu women in full garb volunteered themselves into the shot. Getting behind Ego, one of them got all too personal, and felt all around under Ego's tunic. Ego didn't let on till we moved to another spot

the song
Mary Maudlin. The song title is a pun on the biblical name Mary Magdalene. As with Jesus's pal, our contemporary version is both divine and sluttish, but (said Tasja), unaware of either. The whole day Ego, with bleached blonde wig, "angel" T-shirt, stick-on nails, and cheasy silver hanbag, was haranged by the creapiest guys. Guys who were oblivious to the stylish bo-ho gals on avenue A were converging on her, sometimes aggressively. "Let me get your number, baby"...was heard endlessly. We felt we really learnt something
La Vie S'enfuie. "pain" is spelled out a few times in the song, and i always imagined that it sounded like a cheer at a football game by cheerleaders. You can see the letters P-A-I-N on the outfit, and Ego kinda spelled the letters out with her moves. That was hard to do but we got her cathartic energy :) This was in Brooklyn's Prospect Park
Nadine. Nadine is supposed to be a sex worker. We did the shot in front of the very upscale St Pierre Hotel, accross the street from the Plaza. We thought we'd get a hard time from the doorman, but he and a waiting chauffeur asked Ego and Tasja if they'd like to have a Rolls Royce in the shot (I was hiding at this point). They both simultaneously and enthusiasticaly said 'YES !'

song-
Parsippany, NJ. This is in Fort Lee NJ, overlooking the GW Bridge tolls. This is a gal who's a bit overwhelmed by the location (what's so wrong with lots of traffic and highways ??), and won't "come and hang with me in New Jersey" as i say in the song. The book belongs to Ego, so maybe she related a bit to the character :)

This one relates to the album title generaly, so i think of this gal as the total
Siren Of The Apocalypse. This is at Ego's house. the image of me on the left is a reflection in a mirror. Me and Ego were amazed Tasja could shoot pics in a pretty dark room like that. Tasja was really stoked on getting multiple reflected images in mirrors
Goth Chick '98 This is right in front of Ego's vanity. All the objects in the last 2 shots are Ego's, so maybe she's got her goth side (loved the gargoyle). The vibe is a bit different from the 'goth chick' in the video for the song. In the video it was Helena Prezio.

2 songs-
Felicity Ann McGuire (
L) and
The Silver Balloon The shot of Ego was taken in my friend Brian Uni's garden (thanks). That's his siamese cat. We didn't expect it would jump up on her like that.. good thing. The gal in the song is a magical forest/ knows-all-the-herbs fantasy. Me and the balloons relates to a song about my seemingly infinite capacity for fantasy
copies of the cd are comming. thanks for reading all the way down ! Martin
