Before you go pay $1,000 for a new pure bred puppy or kitten from a breeder or pet store think about adopting from the local humane society or a rescue group. Plenty of pets in shelters are pure bred cats and dogs that someone abandoned. Far too many of them are euthanized every year to make more space for other homeless pets.
