Current mood:tone for days!
Category: Music

"While visiting Andy one day he had me listen to the mp3's on Sheptone's website. I decided to replace my Peter Florance Voodoo pickups with the Sheptone PAF's. Wow, what an incredible difference. There was no comparison between the two. The Sheptone PAF's have incredible tone and dynamics to them and just blow the Voodoo pickups away. Andy has a Les Paul with original 59' PAF's that we used for comparison and the Sheptones sound at least equally as good. If you want that original PAF sound for $8k less get a set of these pickups. Thanks again Andy for all your support and help." -Robert A.

Andy Brauer: I love talking hand-wound guitar pickups, especially in a time when mass-produced pickups are the norm. I love the sound of Gibson's P-90 and Fender's single-coil pickups, but the 60-cycle hum (noise), that is inherent in their respective designs, makes me real excited about vintage Gibson "PATENT APPLIED FOR" (P.A.F.) pickups.Mystique, magic, mojo. P.A.F.s have "the tone" – the sound characteristics that I crave: singing sustain, rich harmonies, fat, full driving sound that is as clear as a bell. Overdrive the P.A.F and lighten my touch and they sound clean. With their braided shield wire and typical 7.5 - 9.0 thousand ohms (K ohms) measurements, Seth Lover's distinctive design and patent for Gibson changed guitar playing and music recording history. Seth connected two single coil pickups in series; however, he connected the coils out-of-phase electrically and magnetically, thus, the signal is passed through the pickup minus much of the noise or hum. That is how the pickup that Seth Lover designed came to be known as the humbucker.P.A.F. pickups have appreciated nicely over the years and in today's market, nice vintage specimens are fetching upwards of $2,500.00 USD each..."Andy," you are asking, "where are you going with this?" Well, I am very pleased to announce that vintage-style hand-wound, made in the USA Sheptone pickups are here.Sheptone specializes in humbucker pickups modeled after the 1959-1961 long-magnet Gibson P.A.F.
The tone from Sheptone P.A.F. Tribute pickups is fantastic. They have a vintage vibe to them that I have not found elsewhere. Sheptone P.A.F. Tribute pickups offer the clean, clear bell-like tones and clean up with driven harmonics that pop out and growls and overtones that we love.I recommend Sheptone P.A.F. Tribute pickups to anyone who wants the P.A.F. sound but is not into dropping $5,000.00 on a set of genuine Gibsons...

wow, both sets sound amazing. I just got a set of Jason Lollar tweeds yesterday, but I'm going to have to put that Sheptone Strat Set on my list of things to do. One of the nice benefits of having too many strats! :) Thanks for posting the vids!
