rebels, freaks, prophets,

a quick update - added a few new tour dates to the WAND page (www.myspace.com/woodenwand) , including a handful with my old friends Akron Family! Really psyched for these...

There are also some other surprises coming - this tour keeps getting better! - but I'll hold off till next update until we can confirm a few things

Recently made contact with one of my favorite bands, Unearthy Trance, and whaddya know, turns out we're admirers of each others work! Always rad when that happens. Anyway, one thing leads to another and now Chrome Peeler is going to release an Unearthly Trance / WAND split 7" of Charles Manson covers this summer. More news on this as it develops. Very psyched!

Lastly, Tim Bracy, Elizabeth Nelson and I have been asked to do a guest editor spot for Magnet magazine's website for an entire week in July. Look for our 'raves' next month, and watch here for more details!

check out the tour dates (more to be added soon) and please do come say hello!

Hey creeps,

Psyched to announce my long-threatened solo tour up north - supporting my new albums Hard Knox, or "Are You Sur Hank Jr Done It This Way?" (Ecstatic Pace!) and Born Bad (People In A Position To Know / Mad Monk) - is finally happening. We're pretty close to confirming all the dates, but for now, we have three set in stone:

6/12 - hometown gig at Wall Street, Murfreesboro, TN (with full band)
7/23 - River City Grill, Fairmont, West Virginia
7/26 - Mercury Lounge, NYC

This'll be a 3 week jaunt up to Windsor and back, beginning on 7/22. Midwest and Left Cost to follow in the fall, with any luck. Stay tuned for more dates, including details about some very exciting support slots and headliners, as well as some other potentially crazy news involving future tours, The Jescos, and folks more famous than I.

Even more exciting: I've been cleared to announce that I've signed with Young God Records for the next WAND release, which we'll likely start recording early next year. This will certainly be a 'career' highlight for me, as M Gira has been an inspiration to me for more than half my life, and is one of my favorite living songwriters. I think it'll be a great fit. If I have my way, Gira will also be heavily involved in the recording process. More news as it develops, but for now, you can read some very kind words by Michael here: http://younggodrecords.com/News/Detail/?C=2218

Just got the second pressings of the Born Bad LP - again, these are identical to the first pressing except the covers on these have been professionally printed, not hand-screened. The first batch flew, these will too. Limited to only 500 copies. If you want one, paypal $15ppd (in the US - intl, write first) to madmonkvinyl@hotmail.com, or head over to www.peopleinapositiontoknow.com and get one from the source.

Also, speaking of our good buddies at People In A Position To Know, the label is about to release a few limited Wand items:

First, a long-in-the-works split 7" with Tuscon, AZ's Golden Boots (www.myspace.com/goldenboots), a band I really, really dig. They list their influences as Tom T Hall, Cromagnon, Charlie Feathers and The Dead C, and brother, they actually sound like it. No foolin.' Just got the test press for this one, it's a killer! Limited! Get it!

Also on PIAPTK, a lathe cut Wand single, called Haunting The Stagecoach, should be available any day now. The packaging on this is unlike any you've ever seen - Mike really went all out with this one! There are only 100 of these - that's right, 100 - so better reserve one quick. www.peopleinapositiontoknow.com

Lastly, anyone near Asheville, NC this weekend should come to the third (??) annual Asheville Sound Swap hosted by Harvest Records and Tomentosa, this Sunday, June 6th, at the Grey Eagle (185 Clingman Ave). Last year was amazing, one of the best record shows I've ever been to (and I've been to a few), this year should be even better. I'll be there selling shit and eating pheasant, come by and say hello!

That's all for now. Hope to see some of you soon.

Destination Venus,

xToth

For a very limited time, you can PRE-ORDER the just released WAND album Hard Knox, or 'Are You Sure Hank Jr Done It This Way?' on Ecstatic Peace!. Pre-orders not only get the CD in time to arrive on or before the May 26th release date, but all pre-ordered copies will come signed, and also include a limited double sided WAND poster! (Poster also signed upon request).

Hurry, though, only gonna be doing this for a few days.

Other news:
Those in the middle Tennessee area, come on out and see WAND - backed by a full band including members of GLOSSARY and THE JESCOS - opening for Jason Isbell at Rhythm & Booze in Chattanooga this Saturday night. This is WAND's first show of the year! Crazy.

Also - We'll have copies of the BORN BAD LP back in stock next week - if you missed out on the first pressing, don't sleep on the 2nd - there are only 500 copies of this one! Bound to fly. $15ppd in the US (outside US, message here first).

Current mood:  awake
Wild ones,

People In A Position to Know and I are already in the process of repressing the Born Bad LP, which sold faster than we'd anticipated. This second edition will be the same record, and include everything the first edition had, but the covers will not be hand-screened, but printed professionally and shrinkwrapped. We'll be filling all future orders with this second edition, which, barring any snags, should be released in time to coincide with the release of Hard Knox, or 'Are You Sure Hank Jr Done It This Way?' on Ecstatic Peace! in late May / early June.

I will also be putting an extremely rare test pressing of Born Bad up on eBay in the next few days. This is a limited edition of only ONE, and will feature a hand-drawn cover by yours truly, and will come with the complete lyric sheet and download coupon, as well as a few other extras.

Also, for those of you who prefer hard data to the sweet crackling of warm wax, you can purchase Born Bad as a complete album or as individual mp3s at all the usual places online, including Amazon - link here: http://www.amazon.com/Born-Bad/dp/B001VQU480/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=dmusic&qid=1238317701&sr=8-2

In other news, really excited to be heading to New York next month to mix the debut JESCOS album at the Art Farm. More news on label / release date / etc as it develops. Will be posting mp3s here soon as well.

Lastly, for those in the Murfreesboro / Nashville area, I'll be back working at Grand Palace Records on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 12-7 starting this week. It'd be good to see some of you estranged regulars, so c'mon in and 'stimulate the economy' by buying some shit. You can also buy copies of Born Bad here at the store.

Low yo yo,

Rebels, freaks, prophets,
The BORN BAD LP is now officially sold out. These went faster than any previous Wand / WWVV release. Thanks folks. I do have a few copies remaining for people who reserved one and have yet to pay, so if anyone out there still needs one, hit me up in a week or two, I may have some extras if people flake.
You can also hit up People In A Position To Know directly, I believe they still have several copies yet to be claimed. I'd hurry, though! If all else fails, try your favorite distro - most of the cool ones should have limited numbers in stock.
A repress is planned (although the second edition will likely not have hand-screened covers, etc), but not immediately. Watch here for info.
As of tomorrow morning, all pre-ordered LPs will be in the mail. Thanks again, early birds.
In Jescos news, we're halfway done with rough mixes, after which we'll start the bidding. Stay tuned.
God bless (you DID sneeeze, rite??)

Current mood:fuck it
Allies, Walleyes, American Pies,
Our new band now has a name - The Jescos. Psyched to get started mixing this album, which I think we're calling Remembrance Of Things Trashed. We'll also be establishing, err, 'web presence' soon, and we'll be posting rough mixes at that time. Stay tuned.
In other news, Born Bad LPs are here almost two weeks early and going out to you good folks who pre-ordered this week and next, so watch the mail! Thanks again, yall helped expedite this process in a big way.
Welcoming good cheer and pep talks,
xToth
