I just finished reading Brandon Boyd's bio on his personal webpage,  (for all of you that don't know the name, i'm sure you'll know the band... Incubus..)  His bio is awesome, It makes me want to rent a room in his house and hang out with the prostitute ghosts on the 2nd floor..  i can't describe it, you just gotta read it...  I need to create something like this for myself..

   SO! The month of November has randomly turned into a very publicized month for J.E.L.L.i.   Earlier this week a website called Praiseforwallflower.com released a great review of The J.E.L.L.i. EP,   made me really happy i was floating all day,  you can check it out here:

          MAH J.E.L.L.i. is JIGGIN' LIKE NOBODY'S BUSINESS!!  

     Excellent..   I got the opportunity to work with my father in Manhattan for a week, earning great $$,  which then turned into THREE weeks, earning a whole lot more...  i'm taking the majority of it and hacking off the more pricey limbs of my student loans, but the remainder will be used to buy The P.A. System for J.E.L.L.i. Live,  as well as a nice Shure Beta87A Electret Condenser mic for live vocals too.. 

      I have so many great ideas for my live show..  There will be balloons..  I don't even know where to begin..  There's so many great covers to do too, and then throwing in all my originals,  I CANNOT WAIT TO DO THIS...  

       Doesn't it suck that all of that isn't happening till next year?   No ,  it's doesn't suck, because it's not supposed to happen till next year..   How do I know it's not supposed to happen yet?  Because it hasn't...     =) 

  

       My last day of work in manhattan is monday, starting tuesday my life is turning totalitarian, 75% of every day will be devoted to finishing Jump Into The Fuzz until all tracks are recorded..   it's time to introduce dictatorship into J.E.L.L.i. Land..   Once tracking is finished, the regime may ease up and *democrazy* will be re-instated once I start mixing, but until then, it's lazer sharp focus till the last note is played, the last drum is hit, and the last word is sung. 

      I'll never give up twitter though, ever...  i'll be in contact from my cave  ;)    and i'm sure i'll go into hyper blogging mode too..   JELLiMusic.com has a new "PRESS" section!  Check it out!

 

       In other J.E.L.L.i. News,  "Partners" the indie film that I composed two songs for will be released on December 8 in Best Buys, Targets, Blockbusters, Hollywood Videos and the like all across America and Canada..  The two songs that i wrote called "Hell Deep" and "Cyrstal Rose" have been sent out to iTunes, they should be live in time for the December 8th release date..   You can check it out right now at bestbuy.com:  "Partners"      and if you haven't bought The J.E.L.L.i. EP yet, then what you waitin' fo?!

    I've been talking with the director of the movie and he's been negotiating with a production company in Los Angeles that wants to do a sequel, talks have been going extremely well...  I won't talk about the budget that's been proposed, because no contracts have been signed yet and I don't want to get mine, or your hopes up, but it's an obscene, OBSCENE amount of money,  more money than I personally think i even want to have in my bank account at any given time.. (i'm a generous guy, you'll see this as the years roll by how much of that green paper stuff I give away to people who need it more than me...) and if it all works out,  I'm going to be bery bery happy. 

      My voice is doing GREAT,  i'm working out at the GYM a lot,  all is going really well...  I've compartmentalized my life,  thank GOD..    Mentally I separate my friends from my frogs, from my lover, from my mother, family, work and everything in between..  Picture all the categories that make up your life as islands, floating independent of one another, connected only by bridges, in a sunny aquatic paradise..   SO, when one of those islands are up in a sour wind,  I set up camp on J.E.L.L.i. island, which always has it's jiggly feet planted firmly in the sand..

 My voice is getting stronger..  more consistent and enduring..  J.E.L.L.i. live will definitely be kicking off in 2010.. the album will be finished early 2010 too..    I'm also learning how to scream.. excellent..  Hello White Lines overhaul!  Gonna make that song much more aggressive for the album..  It's been a long road, but my voice is finally reaching that consistent place that i've always hoped it would...  I used to ask myself "Will I be able to sing today?"  now it's not a matter of can or can't, it's  "How well will be I able to sing today.."    It's great to have finally arrived in a place where I'm confident in my voice..

  Wow I remember the early days back in Junior High with my Boss BR8 8-track recorder,  that's proof of how I wasn't even close to where I am now..  (haha you won't hear those recordings any time soon..  you gotta wait for the anthology)   I look at me and remember how I couldn't sing,  I learned..   Anyone can learn anything if they put their mind to it,  i really believe that..  (with some exceptions of course..)   We're exactly like computers!! The similarities are resounding!  If you can talk and you have pitch to your voice, I can install a singing program on you..   If you don't like something about you, then UN-install it!!  I wrote a big essay describing the parallels between Humans and Computers..  Lucky for us, we can install/uninstall stuff that we don't like about our behavior,  but unlucky for us, it's not as easy as just clicking "uninstall"  it's a LOT of work to uninstall something about you that has years of momentum.. a lot of work..  but you can do it..   We can upgrade our operating system too though,  Windows 7 is in the mail!!  and some say for 2012,  it's a world wide OS upgrade, and those who refuse shall perish..   lol  we'll see...  

     i'm pondering the line between what mannerisms can be un-installed from a person, and what's hard wired into our motherboard..    My joy:  hard wired..   just try and make me miserable..  lol...  very few things get past my firewall..  Women i have crushes on that don't feel the same way back have always been something that hurts me deeply,  um... "Jenn", lol  "Starlight".. + much of the other songs you'll hear on Jump Into The Fuzz..   but that's a WHOLE other series of blogs..   i'm excellent at letting things roll off my back, shock absorbing and focusing on light instead of darkness..   I've been told that i'm "Natural Acid"..    Hearing that made me want to leap into the sky..   I wonder if the natural joy of just "being" that I feel, can be installed into other people..  I definitely believe it can..   I don't feel special, I believe everyone can feel and perceive all the complex beauty in life in the enormous ways that I do, but I don't see a lot of people doing it..  I have met some people though and its like a breath of fresh air..  Their weird like me ;)  Hopefully one day "sadness" will be strange, and a smile will be the norm..   But I believe the reason why people aren't as happy as they could be is because they haven't let go of their past..    The past haunts people, and keeps them from their health, and it keeps them from reaching their full potential..      GOD there's so much I can speak about here i'm just going to stop..  I can talk about these things for years.. 

I got back from the Gym a little while ago,  I went with my friend and she works out HARD..   she's going to be the official J.E.L.L.i. physical trainer and i'm going 3x a week..   can't wait to take my shirt off on stage ;)   lol   i'll need a friggin tan first..    I ran 4 MILES!  8 minutes each..  that's damn good..  My goal was to up it from 2 to 3,  I decided to make it 4, and my body didn't seem to mind... excellent..  I FELL OFF THE TREADMILL!   HAha...   I was listening to "Master Of Puppets" and for a few seconds I closed my eyes cause I was really into it, and when I opened them i was falling off the treadmill..   lol I can hear you thinking right now..  "Only Chris..."    

        So I have a question..   IT'S A SATURDAY NIGHT!!  WHY ARE YOU READING MY BLOG?  LOL...  not that i'm not wonderfully happy you're here with me,  i'm honored you take interest in the ever entertaining life of Christopher Michael Sauter,  but I'll be here tomorrow too..   GO OUT AND HAVE FUN!!  WALK AROUND, FIND SOMEONE/SOMETHING NEW..   I'M ON MY WAY TO A PARTY AFTER I FINISH THIS,  SO GET OUTTA HERE AND HAVE FUN!!    lol

      So the world works in mysterious ways..   No it doesn't...   I recently recorded the drums for an album by a band called "The Bad Mouth Betties",  also the opportunity for me to work as a drummer for a company called "Kidville" just recently came to existence..    Why?   Why did these things happen?  .. to prepare me to record and perform the best possible drum tracks for J.E.L.L.i. !!   I'm warmed up for recording drums and i'm warmed up for playing drums!!   Couldn't have asked for a better situation.. 

       We question things sometimes..  well, most of the time..  but most everything has a purpose..  If it's happening to you, then its happening to you for a good reason..   I honestly believe that..  even if you're getting hurt, it's for your own good, in the long run.

      I have a strong desire to spend time with people who love..  and distance myself from people who hate..   The only desire I have to share air with someone who is negative, is to influence them to become positive..   Lately I find myself getting lost into other people's words and worlds..  second guessing who I am, and what i'm made out of..    This will not continue any further..   If you are negative, and are seeking to work with yourself to become positive, then I can help you change your perceptions and the way you see the world..  if you are negative and wish to stay where you are, then stay away from me.. until you want to smile..  (i say that in the nicest way I can.. ) 

         I don't want to be around toxicity..   who does?   The answer..:  a lot of people..   I'm listening to "Why People Don't Heal" by Caroline Myss..  and though its sad, its true.. "Healing has become a very unattractive concept in society" 

 

     My world is full of light...  My world is full of love.. My world is full of forgiveness..  My world is full of understanding and acceptance of why people do the things they do..  My world is FULL of compassion..    There are also great amounts of sorrow and pain in my life.. like any other..  But do I hold grudges? Do I keep those wounds open and alive?  FUCK NO...  I stay focused on beauty, and that heals me...   I am in control..    Are you?      Forgiving people isn't you permissing what they've done..  Forgiving people is FOR YOU.. not them..  it's for YOUR healing..  has nothing to do with them..

     

        So the guitars and bass are done for the album...  DONE!   They've been done..   now i'm on to drums and vocals..   getting ready to start tracking REAL drums instead of digital..   I need to re-learn all my parts!!  So i'm going to start right now..  I believe i'll begin with, "Jenn"..

   Hola.   ASCAP (The American Society of Composers, Authors & Publishers) is a royalty collection society that's responsible for collecting the money i'll make when ever my songs get played on radio, television or in any public venue.   How do they know how many times my songs have been played?   They don't..  lol  they guestimate..  but earlier this year I registered as a writer, and then learned that I needed to register as a publisher too to receive 100% of my royalties, .. they split the payout 50% writer and 50% publisher..  so registering as both, gets you 2 payouts instead of one!   6 months later I finally got around to registering as a publisher...lol being a one man band, things get lost in the shuffle...

       So tonight i registered all the songs on The J.E.L.L.i. EP with ASCAP, as well as the two songs I composed for the Indie Film "Partners"  (IN STORES THIS WINTER!!)     What's awesome about that is the director got my name on the back of the DVD..  NICE!  so this winter when you're in Blockbuster, Target, , or Best Buy,  go to the movies section, look for "Partners" and check out "Music by Christopher Sauter" on the back of that DVD!    I can't wait to do it..  I'm going to make a whole day out of it, going to every store I can...   lol      Yesterday the director was interviewed on a Local Access Staten Island cable show called "The Johnny P Show" .. they interviewed him about the movie, he talked about the music I did for it too...  Should air sometime next month on Ch. 35 (for Staten Islanders)   I'll post the info when I get it.


            Business Business...    what about recording?  

 
       Well,  i'm happy to say that I only have ONE more bass line to record.. it's for "Earth" and then after that, all the Guitar and Bass tracks are FINISHED for the album!   Only Drums and Vocals left...  I just recorded the bass lines for "Eating a Cookie" and "Shadow Factory" and they came out awesome.. very happy with them..  especially Shadow Factory, it came out really raw and tough... just what the song needed..  I was using a pick to play the bass, but realized that the pick took out the aggression completely!!  Then I really dug into it with my fingers instead, and that gave the song the rough sound it was begging for.

 If I truly focus all my efforts into recording, I can get this album tracked by Christmas...     Obviously that won't happen  =)    Life, Side Projects, Friends Family and Women alllllll jiggle the J.E.L.L.i. and keep it from settling into a steady schedule 

                   But it's gonna come out!!  We're getting Closer!!    And i'm VERY excited and impressed with all i've done so far...    I cannot wait to share this album with you and truly begin fulfilling this part of my destiny..    J.E.L.L.i. Live can't be too far off too!!

For two weeks, I had a kick ass intern..  his name was Kristian Amundsen..  it's time for him to leave J.E.L.L.i. Land...  but he sure left his mark and accomplished a lot in a short time..   

J.E.L.L.i. has a new Intern! 

It takes a lot to start a business, especially a creative one.  It's very risky because the product literally comes out of you, it's not like i'm a Lawn Mower company and I manufacture my product from materieals that I can purchase indefinitely..  I can't purchase "Jenn" or "White Lines", I have to be in the right state of mind and spirit to discover those songs..  and if I'm not, then I won't have any product to sell..   Being a one man production company and going the distance is quite possible , IF you are willing to completely submurge yourself into your business and sacrifice your social life and "fun" with people/things unrelated to your career..  There's just no way that ONE man can effectively do the work of EIGHT and still lead a "normal" social life.. Period. There IS no balance.. a one man production company is an extreme situation to begin with and it needs extreme action to come to its fruition.
         I am, and always have been willing to sacrifice my personal and social life for the realization of this lifelong dream..  But no matter how hard I try, life itself just never permits this to happen, and i've accepted that.. no man is an island, and because I can't focus 100% of my time into J.E.L.L.i., I need help, to make up for all my time that gets spent on non-J.E.L.L.i. socializing..  I'm happy to announce that I have a new intern to handle the non-musical necessities of J.E.L.L.i.,  his name is Kristian Amundsen and he's a gigantic help to me. The plan right now, is to take the current product: "The J.E.L.L.i. EP" and SPREAD IT, with the goal of gaining attention/generating anticipation for the release of the upcoming full length album: "Jump Into The Fuzz" 

     He will be getting the EP on Pandora, submitting it to music blogs for review, college radio stations, online music contests and also reaching out to anyone with ears to spread the J.E.L.L.i. (all the necessary business side of stuff that I'm usually doing instead of recording music..) 

   You NEED 4 critical things to be as commerically sucessful as the bands you hear on the radio..

   A Superior Product
   Charisma to win people's hearts
   A connection/investor/big shot in a suit
   A sucessful marketing campaign

           that's it. the last two are a piece of cake.. it's the first two that you can't fake..  fortunately, the first two are in the bag..  =)

     What a great milestone..  I've composed music for a film that's on sale in all major stores in the entire north american continent (almost),  save Mexico..  or am I wrong?  what's mexico considered, north south?..  doesn't matter..  geography was never my thing..

It's 4:34 AM..  I'm eating my dinner now..  I like bread, and I like bread covered in cheese and cut into triangles..   also known as pizza.  I could have just said,  "I like pizza"  but,  I take the long way home..  =) 

I like the rain too,  I can't eat it, but I can drink it..  a lyric by The Smashing Pumpkins comes to mind..  "Rain Falls on Everyone...  the same old rain...  and i'm just trying to, walk with you,  between the raindrops.."    I like that lyric a lot...  

 I killed another mosquito today,  that made me happy, because that's one less person that will have their blood siphoned out of them..   I like my blood, and I want it to stay in my body..  oo another lyric comes to mind..  "I don't want to talk to you anymore... I'm afraid of what I might say..  I bite my toung, every time you come around.. cause blood in my mouth beats blood on the ground.."   Incubus..  Amazing band..  Going to see them This August!! 

       Thanks for putting up with my random expression..   SO!   I just finished composing two songs for an Independent film called "Partners"  The director loved my work and I'm VERY proud of the two songs I made and i'm going to probably post them soon...    This Movie is in negotiations with a distribution company in california to be placed in movie stores around the country and be for rent through blockbuster and netflix..   How AWESOME would that be!  A nice milestone for me...    

         Now that i'm done with that project,  it's time to get crackin' on "Jump Into The Fuzz"    I am dead set on getting this album done for christmas, and there's still a TON of work to do..    I'm feeling the need to go into isolation pretty soon..   There's just no other way,   This one man band is an extreme situation,  and extreme measures need to be taken to ensure that J.E.L.L.i. reaches its fruition..   

it's the most important thing in the world to me..  My purpose, my calling, my passion, my destiny..

    I believe the "Heart" is another word for "God"..    you can use whichever name works for you..  it doesn't matter what you call it,  cause it is what it is, it doesn't depend on your label,  you can call it "Winkleberry"..  it's still the same damn thing, and its purpose is to guide you through your life..  and as long as you know how to feel it and follow it, then your life will unfold properly and there will be nowhere you can be that isn't where you're meant to be.  ..It's easy..  ;)

   Sometimes you want things, that your heart says no to..  othertimes you want things that your heart says yes to..   It feels great when your heart and your mind are aligned,  but when they're not, and when you're at a fork in the road, your heart is the direction you need to follow..  because your true heart, ranks higher than your mind..  it's not subject to fear and confusion.. (don't confuse your heart with your mind!! The mind will tell you what you want to do, and the Heart will tell you what you need to do...)   Man oh man, it feels good when your mind lines up with your heart, it's beautiful,  but that's not always the case...  however...

Life is constantly changing...  just because your heart stops something now,  that doesn't mean that it won't start it later..   The heart operates on a higher calling, a higher plane and a greater sight distance,  it holds no decision that it makes for you to the past or future, it tells you what you need RIGHT NOW, in this season of your life..   So just because your heart is telling you to stop right now, that doesn't mean it won't give you a beautiful glimmering relieving "Green Light" when the time is right..   But It's up to you to recognize that green light when it shines within you and without you, and drive in that direction. Like I said, sometimes our mind doesn't want to do what our Heart is telling us we need to do...  and sometimes the decision to follow the heart is scary, difficult, and heart breaking,  but if you can tap into your spirit and understand and overcome the fears of the mind,  you will find the strength to do what is right for yourself. 

There may be something that I want in life, but if my heart tells me that it's not for me, well then who am I going to believe,  my human nature and my mind and what it wants,  or my higher self and my spirit that knows what I need through my life's journey..   I think the latter has climbed the ladder and has a much higher, and enlightened viewpoint on which way we should be walking through our lives..   

 

                                    It's almost 7 in the morning and i haven't slept yet  =)..  i'm hitting the hay..   Can't fight inspiration, if I got words in my spirit, I must speak them out..    why?  Because my heart is my heading..  and I do my best to try and listen to it all the time...   I fail sometimes,  but i'd say I have and excellent success rate...  By the way,  I've started to read "A New Earth" all over again... and this time around, I have a great feeling that it's going to stick much more than it did the first time..    Adios Friends.

 I sit here eating cold pizza (cause i'm very primitive when it comes to food,  don't give a damn if it's cold or hot, when i'm hungry i'm hungry and i'll eat whatever you give me, as long as it doesn't give me salmonella poisioning)... deja vu.. anyway, I have my window open connecting me to the air that everybody else is breathing and this fantastic rainy day, the rain streaks across the window screen leaving trails behind that look like zig zag lightning bolts..  makes me happy that i can see the beauty in something like that again..

    Can't stay in the open all the time,  can't constantly give, sometimes you need to take..  i took a month to travel down a emotional, physical and spiritual glowing light filled shadowy dark beautiful disasterous promising path..  if it sounds torn and contradictory and opposed to itself, it's because it is.   

 

      But i'm here now..   and here is where I'll stay..   I've felt the lack of communication and interaction with the community I keep online for some time now, and i've been sad about it,  but i'm back..  everything happens the way its supposed to,  i was supposed to take a little hiatus and now i'm supposed to be back..   and it feels f*cking awsome.   Life is a process,  we're constantly learning and growing and revising our personality and point of view..   it never ever ends..  and i'm glad..  Still learning, all the way up until my last day alive..  and that's the way I want to live.
