Melbourne Cup fever has struck town - lots of people around in good spirits.
I'm playing with some awesome guys - Troy and Spider- and I just had a great busking night, so life is pretty good!
And now that I finally have Pro-tools, I'm so excited. I have started doing a lot of work for the next CD.

Hi everyone!
I just got back from a few weeks in L.A. and wow! What a great time I had. I met up with Van Dyke Parks (amazing multi-skilled and mega talented arranger and musician and collaborator with the likes of U2, Beach Boys, Silverchair, Rufus Wainwright, Joanna Newsom, Sheryl Crow and many more..).

I jammed with wonderful musicians including Ray Charles' bassist (yes really!) and L.A. songwriters Jamie Chura and Jenni Alpert. I did a bit of recording in a studio there and went to The Viper Room for a gig (it wasn't really my scene but interesting to see). I met up with Aussie expat muso Brett Collins, a friend of mine from Melbourne.
I also had a meeting with a couple of the movers and shakers of ASCAP (equivalent to APRA) and that was great - networking is not a chore when people are so nice :).

I met up with award-winning film and documentary-maker and good friend, Heath Ryan (we met when I was busking in Melbourne a few years ago!).

I am now at 2,700 pounds towards my target of 15,000 pounds at Slice The Pie (see previous blog).  Please go have a look and consider investing 5 pounds only $10 - that will get you the album plus your name on the cover as an investor! Plus it will help me get to the target. 

Last weekend I performed with my brother Josh Romig at The Gorgeous Voices Festival in Bendigo. We ran a songwritiing workshop too. I will put up a live song here from the show we did at The Capital Theatre soon...

This weekend I am at the Fleurieu Peninsual Folk Festival about an hour outside Adelaide. So beautiful! I have 6 gigs here so must dash...

 I need to get into the Top 6 to go on the next round and have 14 days to make it there. The prize is $25,000 and a spot at Big Day Out - so no wonder 2,300 bands have entered the comp!
 Fingers crossed. Oh and if you register you can vote every hour/ I guess they want poeplt to be on the site and get immersed in the beer advertising or something. I know people are cheating BUT on the other hand I still think I have to give it my best shot.. who knows they might end up being disqualified.

 Just got back from L.A. which has opened a whole new world of opportunities for me. I cant wait to make more music!

Yay! After months of trying I just got into the showcase at www.slicethepie.com where I have the chance to raise 15,000 British Pounds (AU$30,000 depending on the strength of the dollar)for recording and marketing expenses. I am one of 24 bands/artists selected worldwide in the showcase.

http://www.slicethepie.com is a music website based in the U.K. where online listeners review the music and leave a rating from 1-10. It is a new form of funding records by fans. If you want to invest and own a piece of my album, go to the site and invest in me :).

There are many perks of being an investor - free downloads, access to un-released songs for feedback and your name in my album credits for a start! You get a return on your investment in royalties if the album does well.

If I do not reach yhe goal of 15,000 Pounds, you will get your investment paid back in full.

What I get through Slicethepie is access to a team who has been in the industry and has connections to help me. Life is so busy - between a bout of cold, writing, recording, gigging, busking, trying to figure out protools and going to gigs just to hear the wonderful music surrounding me in Melbourne ( ask me -  I can recommend lots of great bands).

I have been involved with a new film being made here in Melbourne by the talented team at Big Dwarf Productions - it is called "Suite for Fleur" ( in my Top Friends).  All the filming has been done and it is now in post- production.. looks great too.
Anyway my song Under My Skin will feature in it both during the film and the end credits. That song got a few awards around the time of its release and it got selected for QANTAS in Flight Radio in 2007 which was a buzz..

I will let you know when the film is released (maybe at the end of this year..)

And by the way, do check out the music of my house mate - Nick Roy - he is on my Top Friends. He is about to tour the East Coast. He has a video which will be out soon on Video Hits etc.
