I have been overwhelmed with the inquiries and support for my charity, Project Clean Water, since my recent appearance on Greta Van Susteren's show- which is great! I have posted information about the charity on my site before, but for those of you that want to know more, or aren't familiar, I started Project Clean Water in 1997 to help improve the quality of life for millions of people around the world with clean water problems. To date we have helped over 30 communities overcome their individual drinking water problems in 13 different countries, on 5 different continents.

Project Clean Water recently formed a partnership with the Voss Foundation and my friend Sir Richard Branson's charity organization, Virgin Unite, to support water projects in sub-Saharan Africa. We are calling this partnership "Give a Drop" and our first project together is to help provide water to the village of Pel in Dogon, Mali. The Dogon civilization is one of the most ancient in Africa, and the survival of this unique culture and way of life is currently being threatened by global changes in the environment. I am so pleased to be able to help.

If you would like to make a contribution to support this work, it's easy. To make a $5.00 donation, just pick up your cell phone, text the message "DROP" to phone number 85944. (Don't forget to respond "yes" after you text.)  Even a small donation can make a big impact!

Another way you can help is by bidding on a special auction I've created just to benefit Give A Drop. The winning bidder will receive two tickets and meet and greet passes to one of my shows on the Fall tour...and the opportunity to introduce me on stage. You can check out the auctions by clicking HERE.

Thank you for your interest in Project Clean Water and our cause!
xxj

This is a song I wrote with Rick Knowles. It's up-tempo and really moves, so I decided to tell a story and follow a couple through when they met, to when they had kids, and beyond. It's about letting your loved ones know you are with them, even though you are far away. The track really makes this one, but hopefully you will enjoy just the lyrics until I can post a demo! :) To read them, click here! xxj

Hi everyone! Glad you enjoyed my early version of "What You Are," and as promised, here are some more lyrics.
This one is called "Winter of Love." Ty and I were talking a while back about some friends of ours who have been married a long time. It got us talking about how in the life of a relationship, there are different seasons of love over time as it continually grows and changes and shifts. Love is constantly evolving and we have to stay tuned to those changes, and be consistent in our commitment while we adjust to how it changes and grows and evolves. Every relationship goes through quiet seasons, and knowing your partner is going to be there to love you through those times when you aren't your best, without faltering is beautiful. So I decided to write some lyrics about that, about the hope and worry and yearning and redoubling of commitment. I think its something everyone can relate to. To read the lyrics, click here! Hope you enjoy! xxj

Hi all!
So glad you liked the lyrics I posted yesterday! Dave and I worked more yesterday and polished it up, so I look forward to you hearing the final version. They are subtle differences, but I think they make a difference.
So, for the second installment is a song I wrote while in LA in May, but I just finished the bridge and demo'd it the other day- it's called "You Lied."  This is one of my favorite lyric styles
to write- the verses have lots of words, lots of syllables and internal rhymes. It makes it sort of roll off the tongue. Hope you guys enjoy it until you can hear the whole thing as well...'til then, click here to read the lyrics!! xxj

Hi all! As promised, I am posting the lyrics of the song Dave Berg and I wrote yesterday. It's a sweet message about the fact that we already are what we want to be. We don't have to try to be special or strong- any more than a star has to try to shine, or a any more than the wind has to be reminded to blow. We already are.

Also, for the next 3 days I will post new lyrics to the other songs I have written recently. Hope you guys enjoy them until I can put the actual songs out! xxj

Hi All,

During her recent return to Alaska, one of the most enjoyable moments for Jewel (not to mention the audience) occurred at the tail end of her 2nd night in Anchorage, when she got a rare opportunity to perform with her younger brother, Atz Lee, who also opened both concerts. A multi-instrumentalist and songwriter himself, some of you may recall Atz Lee occasionally joining Jewel onstage during the 1999 Spirit Tour and most notably during her performance on Austin City Limits the following year. On all of those occasions, Jewel was performing with a full band and Atz Lee added harmonica to the mix. This Anchorage performance was a bit different and quite special as it was just the two of them onstage together. We thought you might also enjoy this unique performance, so be sure to go watch by clicking here! Enjoy! Alan

In 1997, I founded Project Clean Water. It is a non-profit charity foundation that is working to improve the quality of life for millions of people by helping to provide clean water on a global scale. We target villages around the world with clean water problems, and we work with the communities to find sustainable solutions to provide them with safe drinking water. To date we have helped over 30 communities overcome their individual drinking water problems in 13 different countries, on 5 different continents.

I am very excited to announce that Project Clean Water recently formed a partnership with the Voss Foundation and Virgin Unite to support water projects in sub-Saharan Africa. We are calling this partnership "Give a Drop" and our first project together is to help provide water to the village of Pel in Dogon, Mali. I am so pleased to be able to help. For more information of this project, click here to visit the Voss Foundation's web site.

I became interested in clean water when I was 18 and lived in my car. I had sick kidneys and had to drink 2 gallons of purified water a day. I could not afford to buy much bottled water, and it dawned on me that if it was this hard to get clean drinking water in the United States, then it was probably a huge global issue. Boy, was I right.

Solutions and technologies exist to provide clean, affordable drinking water anywhere in the world. These solutions will save lives, reduce financial burdens, foster peace, and relieve millions of people from worrying about their next drink of water.

You can help us continue this important work. The Give A Drop campaign operates through website and text donations.  Visit www.giveadrop.comor, to make a $5.00 donation, just pick up your cell phone, text the message "DROP" to phone number 85944.  Even a small donation can make a big impact!

Hello all!

Well, what an eventful last couple months. I have had a fun summer. Ty and I sure do stay busy! I love to be busy, and it's been nice to balance it all with time at home.  I have been enjoying the ranch so much, and have been looking long and hard at how to restructure my job a little so that it allows me to be home more. I'm very excited about how the music business is changing. It's like the new wild west- there are no rules, and anything seems possible. I'm looking at making more records more frequently and releasing them, but maybe start to cut back on the two-year promo it has typically taken to get them out there. I will continue to tour in these short two-week bursts like I have been doing that allow me to cover a territory in an efficient way so I can then get back home. As far as my next album goes, I think I have settled on an up-tempo album. Since Lullaby was an acoustic low-fi album, I thought it would be fun to go back to an up-beat feel, so I am going to work with Dann Huff again (we did my album This Way together). I have written some brand new songs and really look forward to cutting them. It will be worked to country radio, but the sound will be similar to "Standing Still" and the production of that record. I think. Then I think the album after that will be acoustic and maybe even like POY- a live album with a few band cuts that are sparsely produced. I will look at recording in short bursts in November and December, I guess- cutting band tracks in Nashville and then doing vocals at the ranch and overdubs via the internet. Love the modern age!

It's been fun sharing this special occasion with you over the past 12 weeks, but alas we've arrived at our final videoblog installment of Jewel's free fan concert and Lullaby album release party - recorded at The Roxy back on May 10th. This last sequence includes the entirety of Jewel's encore, beginning with "Angel Standing By," one of several songs written early on that she revisited for the Lullaby album. Following this she finally relents to popular demand and caps off the night with "Chime Bells," aka: the speed-yodeling song.

The entire concert is now posted. We hope this brought back fond memories for everyone who was there and that everyone else enjoyed sharing this intimate event vicariously.

Hello everyone! I had so much fun in Alaska! Man, being home felt so good. I get so homesick for the country up there. There is nowhere else like it in the world, and pictures and even film just don't do it justice. It felt like food for the soul, letting my eyes drift across the steep and rugged and untouched terrain. I feel lucky to have been raised in what I can only describe as one of the most breathtaking and wild places in the world. I have traveled all over the world and have seen so many magical, beautiful and majestic places- but nothing like Homer. It's the way the mountains climb right out of the ocean on jagged wings- turning grey and slate and green and navy all in turns, and how glaciers flash their shocking blue undercoats through crevices in the ice that become visible in the slow bends of the frozen flow. The country that raised me is big and wild and I wandered endlessly on my horse in open country, where there are still open ranges where cattle graze with no fences, and bands of horses run wild in that big beautiful country, and where wolves and bears are a real predator to guard against. I just love it up there.

The first thing I did was have my dad take us to the head of Kachemak Bay, where my aunt Mariis has a cute cabin.I used to live with her and help her run her business, taking tourists on horse rides up the beach to this valley and all its riches. I used to saddle the horses and cook for them.  Memories come flooding back as we rode 4-wheelers across the grassy plains. We arrived at the swollen banks of the Fox River and rowed a small boat to get to the other side where we had a picnic sitting on a grassy knoll, waiting for my uncle Otto to come with his horses to push his cattle across the Fox.
