One month after moving to Los Angeles from NYC in 1993, Jill landed an unimaginable
assistant position working for Barbra Streisand. This colitis inducing, yet life-enhancing job
was enough of a resume punch to assist her gradual ascension up the Hollywood ranks.
Historic civil rights activist and former CNN journalist, Jill Abrams has drafted a humorous
and revealing portrait of one woman's odyssey through the complex and often times baffling
world of Show Business.

From a rare behind the scenes glimpse into the lives of the Industry's most revered
stars, comes an intimate collection of short stories, told from an unapologetically candid
gay Jewish East coast perspective. Part professional survival guide, pure amusement
as she uncovers the comical truth behind the Hollywood facades and shares the crucial
life lessons one should know when breaking through the bottom, without the help of
A-list connections or a D-size rack.

Chapters include positive and inspired experiences with living legends Barbra Streisand, Madonna, Bette Midler, Drew Barrymore, Jodie Foster, Stevie Wonder, Chaka Khan, Prince, Sandra Bernhard, Paris Hilton, Michael Jackson, Annette Bening & Warren Beatty, Mike Myers, Linda Perry, Mariel Hemingway, Melissa Etheridge, Lisa Lisa, Heather Hunter, Faye Dunaway, Robert Downey Jr., Lily Tomlin, Hugh Hefner, Lucia Rijker, Veronica Webb, George Clooney, Sinbad, GLAAD, Soul Train - Don Cornelius, and many more...

JILL ABRAMS ART BIO:

What are people going to think? Since coming out as a lesbian, artist and film-maker Jill Abrams has transformed that question from the accusatory reaction of misunderstanding parents into the main concern of an artistic career devoted to constructing an answer. Jill Abrams, once rebelliously unconcerned with other people's thoughts on the subject of same-sex love, has found her voice as a one-woman assault against the ramparts of divisive, antiquated exclusionary dogma.

Social thinking has become her familiar creative terrain, but in true Abrams style, her response has not been anger, but honesty and love. Rage for an unjust situation has morphed into the honoring of pioneers in the cause, careful never to take today's unprecedented freedom for granted. As conceptual homage's to the early 'Stonewall' champions of gay civil rights, Abrams' images are celebrations of the exquisite beauty distinguished by invincible, self-actualized feminine energy.

The women in Abrams' compositions are complex characters - partly political leaders, partly lovers, and partly fantasy. They are colorful and exuberant urban goddesses who possess transcendent beauty, power and sexuality. Abrams' graphic trademarks are bold color and line, signature lightning-bolt hair, succulent lips, penetrating eyes, and hands uplifted in gestures of friendship, joy and triumph. The gaze travels between those points, slipping across limbs swathed in elaborately patterned fabrics. The effect is of a tapestry, or a lush and eclectic garden. It is fitting that the beauty of these women is somewhat idealized and stylized, as it is symbolic of the beauty that comes to all women empowered to live and love from their core truth, without negotiation or consideration of the'normal codes' of our society's sexual structure.

The brick motif standard in Abrams' work refers to the raw Basquiat streets of her native New York, and the soulful appeal of their graffiti-clad serendipity. Her newer use of more serene outdoor settings has been inspired by the comparatively organic quality of life in her adopted home of Los Angeles. Either way, the scenes are almost always set outside or in a public place, again making reference to the very public nature of the crusade she has joined. It doesn't get more public than making art into a 14 x 48 foot billboard, her "Freedom To Marry" public service announcement towered above some of the busiest intersections in Los Angeles.

Pursuing a Warhol-inspired master of all media, Abrams has also completed a 16mm short film on the making of her Billboard. She envisions an unprecedented film event which will demonstrate the diversity and ultimate cohesion of the gay community as it transcends national, cultural and religious boundaries. Abrams' intensely personal brand of propaganda - in art and in film - subverts the dominant paradigm to produce work that is graphically bold, unapologetically political, and fervently upbeat.
