things i learned (am learning) during hibernation:
1. it is never good to hibernate for too long.
2. too much time alone is too much time alone.
3. when music makes you miserable, go for a walk.
4. when music makes you happy, keep playing til your fingers bleed.
5. electrics are sexy.
6. writing crap is still good practice.
7. i miss playing out.

WOW, so it feels like it's been a while since my last show... and i'm totally stoked for this upcoming event at the Derby. I'll be playing in a lineup of other talented artists (I'm on at 10pm), and I've been churning out a lot of new material, so can't wait to try it out and see what y'all think!

well it's not so much "new" as it is about 2 months old now... but it's only recently that it all came together... i was asked by some friends to write a song for the ending credits for their indie feature-length film project. and of course i was STOKED, so i hopped on board sometime in june and then spent the next couple months reflecting and thinking and playing and musicalizing and finally got a song together. i started recording this week, so i should have a final version of the song by the end of the month ::fingers crossed:: there's a rough live version up right now, it's called "never to blame." check it out!

and on a totally unrelated note, i was chowing down at in-n-out tonight when i was distracted from my incredible double-double by the conversation my friend and i were having... i started absentmindedly eating my fries and had somehow subconsciously forgotten about the burger... assuming that i'd finished it... and then, i look down later and lying there next to my fries is one last piece of the double-double... and oh man i felt like i'd struck gold... to find that there is still more double-double when you thought there was none left! that, my friends, is happiness.

the moral of the story: the more double-double, the better.

new material percolating as i type... some of it on paper, some still in my head, some still making its way through the preliminary emotion processing stages in my heart and mind... new material nonetheless.

songs i intend to have so much fun with since i now have Logic Pro and an M-Audio Firewire 1814 on the way. and mics.

and maybe after that, i'll pursue my dream of looping live... and buy any number of looping doodads (goodness i'm such a noob)... and then learn to actually use the loopers so that i don't come off as a complete fool during my live shows (though my mouth does that for me already)


i need fresh words.

ok so while running around and having a fantabulous time with you folks at Tangier last night, i got like ZERO pictures on my camera...

so i'll just leave the current one up for now...

why i always have the urge to blog at ungodly hours of the night when i should be asleep... i'll never know. but this is important.

so i had my doubts. moving back to l.a. for good, what a move. once again, i am reminded of how little i know about life and all it has to offer---its ups and downs and zigzagarounds. i'm not trying to get all sentimental and contemplative here, but really, i'm just astounded. I've only been here for a month now, and in that time, I've met some TOP-NOTCH folks, had some awesome jams, found performance spaces, lined up gigs, and best of all, i'm writing again.

i'm writing again which means my blood is flowing again which means i'm moving again which means i'm not sitting in my room feeling useless and panicked as time ticks by.

This feels amazing. i hope i get to keep it.
