The 5th Annual March of DIMEDAY is moments away from starting and every year it's a labor of love for me!  It's the one time a year I get to use my job and those four billion dollar satellites for the sole purpose of paying homage to one of my idols and member of my all time favorite band of my life, Darrell "Dimebag" Abbott from Pantera.

For 24 hours Liquid Metal on Sirius XM becomes Dime's personal metallically twanged out jukebox with nothing but bands that Dime would want to hear if he had his own radio station!  You'll hear tons of Pantera, Damageplan, Rebel Meets Rebel, rare solo material, collaborations, Slayer, Ozzy, Priest, Kiss, David Allan Coe, Metallica, Maiden, Sepultura, Hellyeah, Black Label Society, and tribute songs from Cross Canadian Ragweed, 2 Cents, God Forbid, Shinedown, and more!

It's the one day I schedule every single element by hand for a whole 24 hours!?!  That may sound easy, but it's not.... but it IS a fuk load of fun and I love it!!!!!  Who would have thought when I was kid getting my 1st tattoo, a CFH on my right shoulder when I was 16, that I would be able to give back so much in return to what his guitar playing and his band did for me.

Besides all the music Dime touched and praised, we air thoughts and words from his family, friends and fans... Vinnie Paul, Rita Haney, Zack Wylde, Kerry King, Gene Simmons, Rob Halford, Ozzy & Sharon Osbourne, Bobzilla, Jamey Jasta, Dave Ellefson, Big Val, Charlie Benante, Scott Ian, Buddy Blaze, and a shit load of "Dime Lines" from various sources...

Actually now that I'm done w/ this... I thought was going to be short blog entry ended up ending at exactly 3am ET... the start of Dimeday... Happy birthday bro, your music, spirit and energy forever lives on... here's to the pink beard in the sky!  Thanks for inspiring all of us... now and forever!

Hellyeah!

P.S.  We just got a new dog, my 1st since i was a kid, and we named him Rocky Dimebag Mangin, and my daughter's fav guitar player is... I'm just passin' it on yo...

I'm very stoked, honored and proud to be featured in this issue of INKED Magazine (below w/ the singer from the Gallows on the cover), which is on sale NOW.  I subscribe to the mag, which is one of my favs, and to be in the same issue as Lamb Of God, Chester from Linkin Park, Gallows and a ton of hot tattooed chicks is beyond belief!  I want to thank Todd, Jason, Rebecca, Ben and Patrick for the awesome chance to appear in the sacred pages of INKED!  I'm featured in the table of contents, and on pages 41 to 43!  Here's one of the pics and the very positive/cool ass article!  The other shot is very "GQ" and the table one is quite stoney!  Haha... and last but not least a huge thanks to my tattoo artists, for if it wasn't for them, I wouldn't be in INKED!  Kevin Johnson, Paul Booth and Alexis Kovacs!  Pick up this copy of INKED and every other one they put out... it's all about our culture, style and art... let's show it off!  Thanks!

The new host of MTV’s Headbangers Ball, José Mangin, got his first tat- too at 16 (Pantera’s famous Cowboys From Hell logo) and was hooked. But it was his encounter with the band’s late, great guitarist, Dimebag Darrell, that got him addicted. “I walked up to him and said, ‘Scarred for life, man,’ and he totally tripped out! Dime gave me a Coors silver bullet—I still have the can!—a black-tooth grin, and some hits off a killer bomber he had going around. I was never the same since.”
Mangin was raised on “a healthy diet of tacos and metal.” He’s quick to profess his love for both, as well as for tattoos. It’s a jumbled recipe for success, but his résumé reads like every headbanger’s dream: heavy metal nerd becomes college radio host, gets picked up by FM rock station, wins awards for programming and hosting, works with record label, gets hosting gig at Sirius XM, and lands at Headbangers Ball (a goal he’s had for nearly 20 years).
Since he’s a TV personality, Mangin takes care of his appearance a bit more than your typical horn-throwing, goatee-braiding, die-hard metal fan. “I do care about dressing well, and I try to visually represent all the hemispheres of my life in what I wear,” he says. “Some dudes are thrown for sure, but after talking to me and seeing what I’m all about, they’re always cool … metal can unite anybody!”
As can tattoos. Mangin’s black and gray Aztec work comes from Memphis tattoo artist Kevin Johnson of Ramesses Tattoo. But he’s also picked up ink from Paul Booth, tattooer to the metal gods. “In junior high I hung up Paul’s artwork he did on my idols Max and Igor Cavalera from Sepultura,” Mangin says. “I met [him] outside a Superjoint Ritual concert in New York City about six years ago and offered him a job hosting the first-ever tattoo radio show. I also got tattooed by Booth live on the radio inside one of our studios for the first official bloodshed in company history!”
None of Mangin’s success is lost on him. If he comes across as excited or just plain happy, it’s because he is. “I know every day I wake up that I’m one of the luckiest dudes alive.”

Hey now... finally have time to let y'all know about a new site that I'm doing audio blogs for... a site that Dave Mustaine from Megadeth created w/ his friend Scott Holmen... and a site that Dave personally invited me to be a part of... and wow what a phone call that was!  He called me from his dinner table?!  Hahaha... first it was an email and I did not believe Dave was emailing me... but sure enough it was him!  And a few months later... here I am, bloggin' about it!

THE LIVE LINE (www.theliveline.com) is a cool way for fans to HEAR thoughts and words from their favorite musicians, radio personalities and more.  It's like Twitter but in audio form and readily available to use/abuse from any phone anywhere in the world!

Who's part of the LIVE LINE?  Well besides Dave, there's Dez from Devildriver, Chuck from Testament, Maria from In This Moment, Scott/Charlie from Anthrax, Kayla from Sirius XM Octane and more!

It's pretty fun and I definitely say whatever the hell I want to... whether it's a speed walk through Times Square on way to bus, or a trip to Six Flags where metalheads walk among us, or raw and candid thoughts on a guest that stopped by work, or a new CD that I'm pumped on, or reactions to having Penthouse feet in my mouth... it's all that and more on the LIVE LINE!

So call me whenever you want!

888-644-7445

24 hours a day/ 7 days a week... it's all good!  Leave a message for me or just call to see what's going on.

Thanks for livin' it up on the LIVE LINE!

Hellyeah!

Trippin' out seriously... about to watch MTV2 for a special HEADBANGERS BALL at 11pm with me hosting and Dave Mustaine from Megadeth as my guest!?  What?!

All this week (April 27 to May 2) on MTV2, there will be nightly HBB shows and on Saturday the broadcast everybody has been waiting for... the first annual Revolver Golden Gods Awards!

It's about g-damn time America had its own metal awards show!!!  It'll air (edited and TV ready of course) this Saturday, May 2nd at 11pm and the following hour will be all the "aftermath" as recorded by our cameras in downtown LA back on April 7th.

Plus all week in most of the commercial spots you'll see lil' quickies of behind the scene stuff and random interview clips.  As I'm typing this, I just saw me and Kat Von D, and yes she's cool and of course HOT!  And Mexicana tambien!

Here's the breakdown of the week:

Monday 4/27 @ 11pm - Megadeth's Dave Mustaine
Tuesday 4/28 @ 11pm-  Killswitch Engage
Wednesday 4/29 @ 11pm- Hatebreed
Thursday 4/30 @ 11pm- All That Remains
Friday 5/1 (Sat. morning) @ 12am- Suicide Silence & Slipknot's Corey Taylor
Saturday 5/2 @ 11pm - Revolver Golden Gods Awards
Satuday 5/2 (Sun. morning) @ 12am- Revolver Golden Gods Awards:  The Aftermath

For more exclusive clips go to:  http://headbangersblog.com or http://mtv2.com

All in all this was a lot of hard work and lots of folks worked their asses off on this, but biggest thanks go to Mike Marco, the METAL superman of MTV!

It's about to start and I gotta take a rip and throw back a shot of Don Julio before I see one of my life idols next to me on MTV2's HEADBANGERS BALL!!!!!!!!!!

More to come...

AND thanks for watching, listening and for lovin' METAL!

After a shit load of people asked me if I was on Twitter, including some dudes in upper management here at Sirius XM, I felt like I should make the jump into a world that sort of scares me a bit!  Hahaha... but f' it I'm on Twitter now ... www.twitter.com/josemangin .... just check off another thing to make my life even more crazed than it already is?!  Haha... so here's to birds that go tweet and all the sweet cloudy words that'll come from these sticky finger tips... hellyeah!

So it's been a week and a day and North America goes without a variety metal station and instead the satellites are beaming non-stop Metallica.  Now I am aware that supervisors often read blogs, so I ain't sayin' shit, all I am saying, is give peace a chance...no, I mean it sucks not having the channel on air definitely.  But we can't do anything about it, and in the grand scheme of life, the channel takeover is happening surrounding very cool big deal events (Rock Hall of Fame, Guitar Hero, etc.).  But it still hurts and its ok to say that.  It sucks for the bands, for the fans, for the staff and for the scene and I think the channel in general is really cool b/c I AM a huge fan of Metallica (idols of mine), but not taking over our only metal station for a whole month.  If we could have played other artists that the dudes love and admire, new or old, then that would have been something sick for all parties!  But it didn't happen and life goes on.  The good thing in all of this is the fact that we ARE COMING BACK and comin' back swingin'!  Around April 14th we'll be making our triumphent comeback (hopefully as Hard Attack!) and stronger we will be because of it.  I'm sorry for the pain this has caused, but please stick with us and if MM is too much for some of you, crank up some Hair Nation or Octane or Stern or get all baked out to The Joint... the point is there are 100's of killer options to choose from so have fun exploring!  In closing, I want to say "uuuuuuuaaahhh!" and thank you for lovin' heavy music, whether its 'Tallica, the variety and all points in between.  We'll be back and "stronger than all... stronger than all!"

Wow... so I've met and interviewed Cheech & Chong separately throughout the years, and a few months ago got to chill w/ the legendary duo @ Sirius-XM and perform "La Bamba" w/ them w/ alternate lyrics about a girl named Mari!  Haha...

This past Saturday, my good friend Alejandro and I drove down to Atlantic City to catch their comedy show @ the Borgata and we had fourth row tickets AND after show passes... what?!!  Needless to say, we shit ourselves...

Show was a-f'ing-mazing!  They did a bunch of their famous scenes from their movies and acted them out on stage and even pulled out some instruments and rocked out a few classics like my fav... "Earache My Eye" w/ Cheech in full pink tutu costume and all!

Afterwards, Alejandro and I plus two other people waited to get escorted backstage and hung out w/ my idols for about 20 minutes.... talking about everything from beaner boots to my mom's tamales!  The one thing that you think we did do... we didn't!  At the time, I felt like asking them to... you know... but that would be too obvious and if just didn't feel right.  It was a stuffy casino backstage dressing area and I know my time to chief up w/ the masters will come... but I want it to come naturally and not forced.

They did mention that they would want me to be part of something that they are working on in the future... the mere thought of being able to help these dudes out in any way freaks me out... but I'll be there for them no matter what!

Check out the video link below of us hangin' before and after the show and thanks for welcoming back these two guys that have had such an impact on all of our lives!

Long live Cheech & Chong!!!!

My MAN CAVE* episode on DIY airs TONIGHT @ 9pm ET and 1am ET!!!!!!

....

..

(*Back in January I wrote an essay to DIY about why I deserve a "Man Cave," it was pretty colorful to say the least... the director contacted me the next day, I sent some pics, he wrote me back and wanted to come by to do a prelim interview, as soon as he met us he said they wanted to use us in a show, weeks later designers came by and gave me rough idea of what I need to have done before the crew gets there,.... thanks to my boy Alejandro we got it done the night before the Cinco de Mayo, which was the 1st day of filming... we shot for 2 days, got a lot of footage, and 2 weeks later we threw a "Man Cave" party where we had Marc Rizzo from Soulfly/Cavalera Conspiracy come by and jam some Pantera and Sepultura songs w/ me on vocals at 1:30am in morning... the cops came by 3x and I almost went to jail, and instead went to court 3 days later and was found GUILTY of EXCESSIVE NOISE, fuk yeah... the end result was one f'in kick ass rock 'n roll basement that I've been in everyday since then!!!) ..

"Rock & Roll Lounge"
Hosts Tony Siragusa and Jason Cameron are going to rock Jose Mangin's world with a VIP rock-and-roll lounge. Jason is going to teach Jose some critical rocker DIY skills such as soundproofing a room and building a floating shelf (because an ordinary shelf wouldn't be cool!) for guitars and rock memorabilia.
