BABA FESTIVAL September 21, 2008 former Manicomio the Province of Rome / Santa Maria della Pieta 1921: in the asylum of Waldau, in Bern, Dr. Walter Morgenthaler encounters a very special patient. His name is Adolf Wölfli: self-taught artist, visionary as it can be a crazy, painted frescoes impressive halfway between delirium and hallucinations child dada, anticipating in one fell swoop characters and themes that are typical of how the psychedelic pop art. In 1945, French painter and sculptor Jean Dubuffet ribattezzerà the current Art Brut, giving life to an imaginary which since then has never ceased to stir the murky waters of pop culture, to coin a new culture: that Outsider. The September 21, 2008, at the former asylum in the Province of Rome, will be celebrated heirs and champions of a world that in the last ten years has risen to new life, to the rank of assurgendo trend recognized both at more suspected underground groups as the most renowned antlers Americans and Europeans, whether galleries, museums, or simple local devotees to everything that sounds wrong, strange and bizarre. The September 21, 2008, at the former asylum in the Province of Rome, it was the turn of BABA - Eccentriche Festival of Arts and Culture Esplose. In rooms and boxes of Laundry Manicomiale alternate artists, musicians and performers from universes and routes seemingly distant yet contiguous. It is outsider art, music noise, graphic harsh, happening halfway between pop and Lysergic, the heroes of BABA say a parallel geography that binds together experiences from Italy as Belgium, Canada as the USA, by 'England as by Germany. Sounds and visions from dyed acid sarcastiche, sometimes delirious, with a black humor that is warped mirror of anxieties and conflicts contemporaries. Stralunati folk singers will go hand in hand with street artists from touch naive. Dropouts devoted to rock'n'roll will be accompanied by bizarre and electronic experimenters rumoristi pure. Freak shows from amusement park will irrancidito backdrop for performance halfway between kindergarten and psychiatric hospital. To go on stage, in the afternoon BABA will be all the leaks, waste, waste and childish impulses of a West intent to joyfully celebrate its collapse, with special attention reserved to the Italian reality, but without sacrificing participation reality that in Europe and in North America, have made the Outsider Culture one of the most important movements of the new millennium. PROGRAMME Sunday, September 21, 2008, from 16.00 onwards c / o Former Laundry - Hall 31, S. Park Maria della Pieta (ex Manicomio Rome, entrance by Vincenzo Chiarugi - stop FR3 Monte Mario) BABA ART From the years 2000, the heirs (conscious or not) the original Art Brut go to forming a transnational community so visible to become genuine "sign of the times". The collective Le Dernier Cri, based in France but open to collaboration from all over the world, is the side most iconoclastic, abrasive and tied to the old underground aesthetics, while in the U.S. explodes the phenomenon Paper Rad, more inclined to an imaginary pop and filled with references to the tech-80s. In addition to the most celebrated names, then developed an entire movement and the return to some ostentata amatorialità (a limited edition serigraphs, fanzines home-made, rediscovery of the old copy-art, etc.) made a genuine mission. Baba was involved in his Area Exhibitions, some of the names in his opinion the most interesting coming of the last generations of outsider artists. Space Exhibition Alexsandra (Rome) Canedicoda (Treviso) Cheb Samir (Strasbourg, France) Francesco D'Onofrio (Chieti) Geometric Bang (Milan) Jon Vaughn (Saskatoon, Canada) Homopatico (London, Great Britain) Massimiliano Bomba (Rome) The King of Herring (Bari) BABA HAPPENING The burst of new aesthetic brut among the highest floors of the "official culture" brings a precise date is the 2002 when the collective Forcefield media is called upon to participate in the Whitney Biennal in New York, inscenando a performance that gaudy costumes and delusions primitivisti Says a precise return to quell'immaginario sfasato, sour and primordial that was the figure of more psychedelic sfatta as certain derivative punk subcultures. The Forcefield seminal experience came from Fort Thunder, a sort of Factory 90s located in Providence in Rhode Island, which inspire un'agitatissima new leverage performance artists maximalists and provocatively anti-intellectuals. Performance Space: Alessio Pala (Rome) Dwangbuizerd (Antwerp, Belgium) Fecalove & Mushy (Carrara / Rome) TheGrossiMaglioniMagicDuo & Schola of Lilith (Rome / Milan) Oxo (Rome) Wolf Anus (Chapel Hill, USA) BABA SOUNDS The musical community that has entertained more varied relations with the world out years 2000 is without a doubt that noise, devoted to noise as the main ingredient of a sound hysterical and disassociated. But other scenes of the border have contributed to the soundtrack of aesthetics for its definition little inclined to fences gender: firstly the so-called weird folk, sort of cantautorato noise sbilenco and assurdista, then some garage-rock'n'roll deviant, and the primitive punk estrapola the most "experimental" and that in recent months has led to a whole new genre, chiacchieratissimo shitgaze and finally could not miss the contributions of dj, laptop musicians, and fans of old equipment analog and the verb an electronic damage above the lines, priority aspects "physical" of a sound otherwise condemned to sterility from bedroom. The concerts Baba range to 360 degrees between styles, music and trends such as variegated together by a single imbizzarrito, common feeling, which is expressed inter alia through practices curious as the recovery of old tape cassettes, the predilection for amateur media such as cdr or passion for non-conventional formats (cd 3 ", vinyl 7" etc.).
