RAVE: I finished the first draft of a manuscript TODAY. My right/write hand aches.

RAVE: Independence Day. Our plans are to sleep in. (Not even possible with kittens jumping on our faces, but we'll give it the old college try.)

RAVE: India's government has decriminalized homosexuality. One giant leap for humankind.

RANT: Spoiler alert. I voted for Karla and Vitolio, yet they were cut last night from SYTYCD. Ouch. Some of the routines are so bizarre or boring, it makes it hard for the dancers to get votes, and that's not the dancers' fault.

RAVE: Another Williams/Williams match-up at Wimbledon. Unfortunately, Serena's hurt, so I'm putting my euros on Venus. Love those Williams sisters, don't you?

RAVE: Only two more months until Rage: A Love Story comes out. I can almost count down the days now.

RAVE: MJ. You gave us the gift of your talent and we'll be forever grateful. You changed the landscape of musical performance. Your light will keep the heavens aglow.

RANT: The toll celebrity takes on the personal lives and psyches of people. Why can't we adore our favorite artists from afar and appreciate them by buying their records and attending their performances, then letting them live normal lives?

RANT: A sad week losing both Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson.

RAVE: Life goes on and fond memories linger.

RAVE: I picked my first tomato yesterday. It was the size of a golf ball, but hey. There's nothing like homegrown.

RAVE: The dancers I called in for made the cut on SYTYCD. Kayla's from Colorado, so she's a local fave.

RAVE: FANTASTIC writing week. I need to get this first draft done before 1) they start on the roof next Wednesday, or 2) editorial revisions arrive in the mail for me to work on.

RAVE: Sherri finished her ginormous cat condo. I'm preparing a slide show from start to finish and I'll let you know when it's up on Photobucket.

RAVE: Waking up surrounded by purring kittens.

My Snob Squad books are being re-released with new covers. I think they're very cute, don't you? If you haven't read these books, you absolutely must. IMO, they're the funniest books I've ever written (so far), and Max is... well, Max. (See if you don't think she's a budding lesbian.)

RAVE: It's freaking Friday. I don't know why this week has seemed overlong. Maybe because it WON'T STOP RAINING.

RANT: IT WON'T STOP RAINING

RAVE: I had an extremely productive writing week. This book I'm working on is lighthearted and fun, which doesn't mean it isn't hard work. I'm still up half the night thinking about subplots and transitions and thematic connections.

RAVE: Both of my foster kittens are doing great. I named them Agnes and Walter. Walter is up to 1 lb. 1 oz. (A GIANT.) Agnes is big enough to go back to the shelter, but Walter wouldn't do well on his own. I think I'm getting two more foster kittens today to help socialize him and give her a break from babysitting.

RANT: My flowers and tomatoes are all beat up from the hail. I'm going to give Mother Nature a chance to prove that she provides a natural pruning service.

RAVE: All my favorite dancers from this week made it through on SYTYCD (although I was surprised the judges ousted Max). I felt sorry for the couples who danced the Shane Sparks' routines. I don't think they underperformed them; I think the choreography was weak. Take note, artistic types. You must stay relevant within your art.

RANT: Sherri's truck stalled on her AGAIN. She doesn't even want to talk about it because she knows I'll become a raving lunatic at the incompetency of paid professionals who are supposedly trained to FIX stuff.

RAVE: Less than three months until RAGE: A LOVE STORY comes out.

Sometimes I feel like CNN. The Rainbow Reporter. So I guess President Obama finally yielded to pressure from gay activists to sign the proclamation extending some benefits to partners of gay federal employees. Read more about it here:

Sort of mixed reactions to the news. Some say it's not enough; others believe one small step for humankind...

I say, "I'm only here to report the news."

RANT: Sorry to start off with a rant, but it's so rainy here, I'm afraid mushrooms are going to grow out of my ears. Normally, I love thunder and lightning, but in the distance. Not right over our house when we're trying to get to sleep.

RAVE: All the dancers I voted for on SYTYCD are continuing on.

RAVE: I sold my new book to Little, Brown. (Carly's Girl?) We retitled it, She Loves You, She Loves You Not..., and my fantabulous editor sent me a basket of daisies the next day. I'm the luckiest author in the WORLD.

RAVE: Now I'm working on a new novel that's going to be fun, fun, fun. Every day I wake up with a smile, knowing I'm going to work on this sweet and funny book. I need a departure from the edgy, angsty stuff I've been doing lately.

RANT: No go on solar panels. They're extremely expensive. I'll just have to open the doors when it's warm out and let the sun shine in.

RAVE: I read that Chastity Bono is planning a sex change operation. If this will give Chaz inner peace, I'm all for it.

RANT: One of my two kittens is on the verge of being a Failure to Thrive. This means he may not pull through. We're force-feeding him four times a day, and he has been seen eating crunchies, but he keeps losing weight. It breaks my heart when I lose a kitten.

RAVE: Read a terrific mystery this week: Minette Walters' The Chameleon's Shadow. She's one of my fave English authors, along with Denise Mina.

RANT: I rarely get time to read adult novels because they're longer than YA. What a luxury to sit out on the deck and read (in between rain showers).

RAVE: We have theater tickets for Rent on Sunday. Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

OMG. There were performances last night that had Sherri and me both gasping for breath. Sherri even said, "I was holding my breath the whole time they were dancing. THAT was beautiful." I just bawled my eyes out.

If you're not watching SYTYCD this season, you'll be sorry.

Here's who I voted for. (It was HARD to choose because so many dancers were spectacular. It really came down to total engagement; putting everything on the stage.)

Jeanine & Phillip -- #1. Their hip-hop routine was the definition of J-O-Y.

Randi & Evan -- #4. They may be vertically challenged, but they have no limits on talent and charisma. I'm a pushover for a funky jazz routine, anyway.

Ashley & Kupono -- #8. Crash dummies in love? Are you kidding me? Sher and I agreed it was mesmerizing and may become the performance of the season.

Melissa & Ade -- #9. Strength, fluidity, and gorgeous lines in a breathtaking contemporary dance. That overhead lift? Holy shitake mushrooms.

Well. You know how we're spending our Wednesday evenings.
