I wanted to share with everyone my experience of getting to jam with guitar legend George Lynch (Dokken, Lynch Mob). Goerge has been doing clinics for Sam Ash music stores and was recently at the Richmond location. Part of this clinic is to have a couple of local musicians (bassist and drummer) come up and jam out on some old Dokken tunes. Well, I got a call from the music store a few days prior to the clinic asking if I would be interested in playing drums for George. I was like, "play drums for George Lynch, well HELL YEAH". So I was told that we would be playing "Tooth and nail" and "Mr. Scary", two very popular Dokken songs. I have to admit that I am not huge Dokken fan, although I have always admired George's talent as a guitarist. I had never heard either of these tunes until 4 days before the clinic. So, needless to say I am excited and nervous at the same time. As I am listening to these songs for the first time I am thinking to myself, "What the fuck have I gotten myself into". Mr. Scary was full of changes and drum fills, Tooth and nail not so bad but still not an easy song to play. I totally did not want to screw this up. I listened to the songs every second that I could. All week my stomach was in knots thinking, " What if I screw this up in front a bunch of people and in front of George Lynch". Now the day of the clinic, still nervous. All of the nervous feelings went away as soon as I got on the stage. We started Tooth and nail and it was truly amazing to see the look the was on George's face. It was one of the best feelings ever. He was totally digging it. The shit was rockin'. We ended with Mr. Scary which was far from perfect, but still rocked equally as hard. George is a truly amazing guitarist, but he is also a truly nice guy. He took alot of time taking photos and talking to everyone. Thanks to Mr. Lynch, Jeremy Ratliff, and Sam Ash for having me out.
