I've had a busy weekend with house related stuffs going on. I finally feel much better thanks to the giant prednisone doses I've been on for the last five days. Tomorrow, I start stepping the dose down so here is hoping that I stay feeling good. I also worked on finishing my entries into the Rings and Things contest. I haven't entered any contests for a long time because I wanted to practice my techniques. One of my entries was done by Melanie and me. She came to me and asked if she drew jewelry would I make it. I was a little surprised but said "Sure!". I'm so proud of her for coming up with the design. I called it Amazing Duets Melanie's Drawing The Necklace I made up the next one on my own. It is wire wrapping, crochet, braiding with fancy jasper and African Jade. Une Petit Papillon (The little butterfly) Last Entry "Garden of Paradise" Beadweaving - I made this one up last April so I may have posted it before. Anyways, it is late so I need to head to bed :)

I've been learning some very different (to me) wire wrapping techniques. I downloaded a tutorial on an adjustable ring base and loosely followed the design to complete the first ring. I really love this because it is a jumping off point for several things that I have been wanting to try. I used light yellow beads and the swirls to decorate this ring. This one was done the same way but I used some glass pearls I had on my bead tray. I wanted to create a different look without the swirls. I like this one the best so far. I also redesigned a Nursing Necklace for a customer with some of my new findings. Off to play some more :)

I have been watching the "Frontline: The medicated child" on Netflix. I am surprised at some of the things I have found out. What scares me most is the fact that most of the medicine they give kids have not been clinically tested on kids. So, they have no idea what they do if anything. From what I can tell most of the kids that are on medications for mood, add, adhd, and the like are a part of a huge clinical trial.
The Clinton administration offered to extend patents on drugs for the drug companies to do some testing. This was as little as five years ago. One of the studies ended up giving Zoloft and Paxil a black box warning for kids. Some of the kids as young as 10 were committing suicide after starting on the medication. So, because of that warning pediatricians and child psychologists switched over to giving antipsychotic medicines.
One of the weird thing is the side effects of the first medicine can add on a second, and the second can add on a third which can permanently alter the kids brain chemistry. I watched because we are starting to get Robbie diagnosed and what I see makes me nervous.

So, I talked a little about my conversation with the bank manager
yesterday. It was so surreal because I never really talk to strangers
about anything. This time I walked up as they had the news on and
commented about how many people were there. They didn't look like
people at all just little dots.
The bank manager told me that he
had been there and you really didn't get an impression of just how big
it really was. So we were chatting and I commented that I hope Obama
comes through and doesn't let people down. I commented on how I have
never seen so many people excited over a new president. I was concerned
about the younger voters in particular that he can't let down. I was
talking about the 18-24 range that went out and voted which rarely
happens. I never do this! I don't know why I decided to blurt it out
but I'm glad I did.
He agreed with me and went on to say that
what Obama does in the first year will really tell how things are going
to be. His biggest concern was that a terrorist attack has happened
within the first year of every new president since the 80's. He thought
that terrorists do it to see how the current president handles the
situation. He cited all the attacks and what happened afterward. He
said that the Clinton administration had the most terrorist attacks
because they handled it with lawyers and not violence.
It was
fascinating listening to the guy. I'm usually the one who edges away
from conversations but I got caught up. I spent an HOUR at the branch
talking to everyone there. I still need to research quite a bit of what
he said but it was a weird surreal thing for me.
I just had to share in the weirdness of it all. Now back to your regularly scheduled program :)
