Life is What You Make It

One of my favorite quotes is ”Life is what you make it, so make it memorable”.  I DO NOT believe in bein unhappy.  If you want something go out there and get it, make it happen.  Make yourself happy.  There is NOONE to blame for your unhappiness but you.

If you want to make it to the big time, then bust your ass, make it happen.  If you’re unahppy with your job, quit find a new one.  If the person your with is makin your life difficult, leave them, be with who makes you happy.   The choice is yours.  You wanna work crappy shows with guys who will never go anyhwere and do anything, go ahead.  You wanna date someone who treats you bad and tells you what to do, have at it.

I carefully consider every important decision I make and when I make that decision I stick with it, no regrets, cuz its what I wanted.  Do I always make the right decision? NO.  But for the most part, I’m always happy with my life cuz I did what I wanted, I did what made me happy.

We all make mistakes.  You learn from them and you move on.  Don’t get stuck in a rut of making the same mistakes over and over.  That will make you miserable.  There are two types of people in life.  Those that live it and those that are just in it.  I LIVE life.  I work hard, party hard.  I go all out, balls to wall and have little fear bout things.   I’ve worked in front of the entire WWE locker room without fear.  I’ve talked to the hottest gurl in the club like I was doin her a favor.   What ever happens, happens.  I know that I always do my best and at least I tried.

-          I’ve had so many request for movie reivews, but I’m sorry.  I havent been to a movie in so long.  I’ve just been waaay tooo busy.

-          How was my Halloween?  Haha, it was crazy.  I’m not gonna talk about it on here, you will have to ask me.  It was nuts!

-          Me, Aiden Chambers, Kimo, Phil Shatter, Scotty Matthews and the rest of the UWC this Friday in Kinston.  Thats a sick line up.

-          I was gonna delete my drunk blog but it was too funny. Hey I’m young and allowed to do that every once in a while.  Aj complained about short blogs, so this one is long.

-          After taking a month off in Wilson cuz of the fair we had a really bad turnout Friday.  My bad guys.  I wont let that happen again.

-          Good turnout as usual for snow hill.  The crowd isn’t always into it there, but they were Sat.  Great show and great fan support.

-          Happy B-day to Darrian’s sister Tara, Hector and Chris.

-          Novak will be having knee surgery soon.  Been there, done that.  Wish you a speedy recovery like I had.

-          Shawn Alexander is recovering well from elbow surgery and hopes to be back soon. Good Luck!

-          Me and Kimo vs Phil Shatter and Aiden Chambers Nov. 6 in Kinston.  Plus Joey Silvia and Butch vs AAA, plus Scotty Matthews, oh my what a card!  Where else ya gonna see that? NO where!

-          I haven’t been to the movies in so long, its crazy.  I gotta go see something soon.

-          “im on a boat” is so fricken funny

You Made Your Bed Now Lie In It

If I make a bad decision, you wont hear me whine about it.  I take it like a man.  Sometimes I hear people screw up and then cant admit they were wrong, blame others, whine and cry or wont accept consequences.  If you screwed up and did something stupid, don’t expect sympathy or forgiveness, take your medicine, man up and accept it.  For example, 90% of people that quit UWC, want back in within like a month.  My initial thought to that is: WTF were u thinkin when u quit?  You made your decision, now live with it.

When I was in school, I had major commitment issues. I was kinda seeing this girl. We weren’t exclusive, we could see other people but she wanted to be exclusive and I didnt.  Well she started seeing someone else.   I realized I liked her, so I offered her the relationship she wanted, but she chose the other guy.  I moved on and a month later she was back asking if the offer still stood.  Hell no it didn’t.  She had her chance and blew it.  She was pissed but I’m nobodies 2nd choice.  She cried about it to all my friends for like a month before moving on.  You make your bed, you gotta lie in it.

Regrets

I had a good friend, Devin.  She was cute and really nice.  She helped me get thru some tough times.  One night, walking her back to her dorm we kissed, but I wasn’t ready for it and she could tell.  The next night she was all over my friend Nick and I was pissed.  Things didn’t work out for her and Nick and she wanted to be with me again.  I resisted her for the most part, tryin to move on.  We stayed friends for several months and then we kinda hooked up again.   But summer came and she had to go back to Ohio.  I shoulda kept in touch with her, we shoulda been together when she came back.  But my dumb ass could not get over the feeling that she chose Nick over me and I gave her a very hard time for it.  My ego got in the way.  After bout a year, I realized what an ass I was, but it was too late she had moved on.   It was a case of bad timing, we never wanted to be together at the same time.

A better story of regret happened this past summer.  I saw this girl I dated years ago.  We only dated for 2 weeks when she broke it off, so it was no big deal.  But she was really hot and it kinda hurt my ego.  When I saw this summer she had two kids and had aged ALOT.  She was looking rough, like life had ran her over.  I was looking great.  I look better now than I did then.  I could tell she was embarrassed and I could see the regrets in her face.

I don’t like to give 2nd chances, mostly cuz I don’t wanna get hurt again.  Sometimes cuz my ego wont let me.  Mark tells me “look out for yourself”. But Randall Brown says “f*ck your ego” and Brittany says “Everybody deserves a 2nd chance, everybody screws up”.  I’ve also heard that the 2nd time is a chance to correct what was wrong the 1st time. IDK.   Regrets are a tough part of life.

Sometimes you get hurt and you put up this wall to protect yourself.  I don’t put up a wall to keep people out.  I put it up to see who’s willing to climb it to get in.

Inglorious Bastards*** - good movie, if you like tarintino movies, which some people dont.

Quality NOT Quantity Darnit!
I cant tell you how ofter i hear some "veteran" talking bout how he's been in the biz for 10 years and knows it all. then i watch his match and he's pure crap, has no clue about the parts of a match or psychology.

I've played basketball for 20 years(high school and for fun).  Does that mean i'm a good player? can i lead someone to the NBA? NO.  It just means means i play basketball and can tell you wut its like to play in high school.  doesnt mean i'm any good.  Just cuz someone has worked crappy indies for however many years, doesnt mean they know what they are doing or they are any good.   The garcias have only been working for one year and are better than most "veterans".

If you want to get better, you need work with the best, train with the best.  I've learned more the last two years working with WWE stars, road agents, FCW trainers and top talent, than i did my first 5 years.  It works my nerves to hear someone think they dont need to learn anything cuz they've worked crappy indies for so long.

Perception/Reality
Recently, John has brought to my attention some things he "percieved" was goin on. The monster is overused and as a by product of that, talent was being wasted, Mike W. was being underused and Brittany was being over pushed.  The reality though, was not quite the same.

1 - the monster was over used to compensate for top talent having to no show us. York missed his last booking, Kimo his last two, shawn 2 out of his last 4, aiden two shows ago,  shatter a few shows, same with watts.  the monster storyline was also drawn out thanks to the cage no showing for us two shows as well.  the monster was a necessary replacement for no shows, we did the most with what we had.

2 - mike w. has not been underused.  i had to go back and show john that mike has worked me, scotty, aiden and joey this year.  he went over on both me and scotty and he just got his first uwc heavyweight title shot.

3 - if brittany is getting a huge push than so is everyone else in the storyline.  John's contention was that she has multiple parts on the shows, her match and her angle with the monster.  But so has everyone else involved in the angle.  He didnt feel it was a push for thomas, the garcias, darrian, etc cuz they just got squashed by the monster.  I said then its also not a push for her, cuz she just runs from the monster.  He had no answer for that.  Then I had to show him where she hasnt even worked a match on half the shows the shows this year.

There can be fine line between percpetion and reality.  There was a perception that our shows are repetitive.  The reality is that we have shows in 3-4 different cities so we will repeat some angles and matches, cuz most the fans have not seen them.  Is it really reptitive if most of the fans in attendance have not seen it?

One of my best attributes is I dont let me feelings get in the way of reality.  Example, in boxing I dont like Floyd Mayweather.  I think he dodges tough fighters, picks the easier fight and makes lame excuses when he does.  But I also feel he is p4p the best boxer and would beat most anyone.  Dont let your personal feelings alter reality or your judgement.

Saturday
Man, let me tell you, those who did not attend the TNA seminar missed out on how to become a better worker.  Doesnt matter if you want to make it big or just work indies, EVERYONE can improve.  Terry Taylor dished out so much info, you couldnt absorb it all.  I know alot about this business, but I know crap compared to a 30 year veteran who has worked for every major company and every major player.

And let me tell you this, I would bet money that someone from this seminar will work for TNA someday.  I dont know who or when, but Im sure someone will get booked.  Someone will join Dave and Chad.  Dave started his career with the UWC and now he is on TNA.  Working for the UWC can get you places, how many other places can say that?

Season Change
Summer is pretty much over.  School has started, the weather is getting colder at night and in the mornings.  I didnt go to the beach nearly as many times this summer as last, but I also worked alot more too.  Last summer I took a lot time off for WWE.  So here's my end of summer shout outs:  hilarious road trips, john's crappy navigation computer, the swimmin pool, corona's with grenadine, strawberry shortcake shots, liquid heroin shots, Hi Low, Circle of Death, beer pong, PWS, Joey and Ty, Petey and Creed, North Campus Crossing, Copper Beach, Steven, Garrett, Mark, UFC, Lesnar, Machida, Silva, drunk in the VIP, $5 foot long subs, late night pizza and most important the drunk bus!!

The cold night air in the fall reminds me of one thing, football!!  I miss playin football so much.  The only reason I would want to go back in time and relive high school is for football on friday nights.

Better and Better
The UWC just added the returning Scotty Matthews to their stacked roster, but they are not done.  This Friday, see Caprice Coleman make his UWC debut.   Nobody has the roster the UWC has, its so deep with talent its ridiculous.  The UWC school is booming as well, with over a dozen trainees.

Alton approached me about returning to the UWC for training, but I just dont see where we have the room on the shows or at training.  Its something I will have to discuss with John.  Almost everyone who has ever quit the UWC has wanted to come back.  I would say about 99% of them.  There's only been like 1 or 2 guys ever, who quit and didnt ask back.  The UWC gets bigger and better and we expect the same of our people.  If you dont wanna work hard, if you cant take advise, if you dont wanna push yourself to get better then the UWC is NOT the place for you.  If you wanna be the best you can be, work with the best and learn how this business is supposed to be, than the UWC is the place for you.

My yearly video to the end of summer, road trips and the beach, maybe one day a tractor can pull me to the beach too:

So I was discussin with Dave the TNA seminar goin on this weekend.  He was disgusted by the number of guys that are NOT doing it.  Basicaly Dave's opinion is this: if you call yourself a professional wrestler or want to be one, why would you not pay $50 to get an evaluation from TNA's director of talent?  Even if you know you're not ready for TNA, you should be doing the seminar to find out what you need to work on.  I agree with him, EVERYBODY should be taking advantage of this.

Of course, I can hear the lame arguements now: "I know what I need to work on", "I dont need to pay someone to tell me what I know" blah, blah, blah... Terry Taylor has been in the business for 30 years, working for every major company.  If you think that he cant tell you something, you dont know, you are STUPID.  He knows more about this business, than all the indy workers in NC combined.

The bottom line is this: a professional wants to improve, get better, get advise, critisicm, evaluations.  The typical NC indy worker doesnt.  They wanna keep doin what they're doin, thinking they are professional when they're not.  Never before, and perhaps never again, has a chance like this been offered in this area.   Alot of people are missing the boat and they stand and watch as Dave and Chad sail off to Orlando.

Cost of Fame
So Dave also tells me about the hatorade bein drunk to enourmous levels now that him and Chad are on TNA.  I've said it B4, I'll say it again, the further you go, the more people will hate you.  Thats true in wrestling and in life.  Haters are pathetic.  They get jealous and want to bring people down.  When someone else is successful, I use it as motivation to make me more successful.  I dont let haters bother me and I told Dave to try not to.  The best revenge against haters is to continue to be a winner and it wil burn them up.

Perfect Getaway*** - I liked it, good movie
The Goods, Sell Hard** - pretty funny, but not hilarious

Great Times
This past weekend was two shows, the beach and working with TNA's Petey Williams on the soon to be debuting PWS show on Time Warner Cable.  Sundays at 6:30 channel 25.

This weekend its, TNA's director of talent and a show in Snow Hill.  4 shows in July, 4 shows in August, working with 3 people from TNA and bein on local TV.  Its a great time to be in the UWC family.
Friday, August 21, 2009
The TNA evaluation/seminar is in 8 days and so far we have an interesting mix of workers signed up.  Curiously, none of the guys with biggest mouths have signed up.  All the guys that talk the most crap about how good they are have not signed up.  Also, all the promoters that talk about how good their promotion's talent is, none of their guys are signed up either.  We are talking about a bunch of guys, who have gone no where, done nothing, given a golden opportunity to finally show what they can do and they are turning it down.

So what's the problem? I think deep, down inside they know the truth.  They know they aren't good enough, they havent trained hard enough, they dont work out enough, they havent put in their dues to make it to the big time.  They talk the talk but dont wanna walk the walk.  They wanna play keyboard warrior and pretend they are professional cuz they sit on their ass all week and then work a grocery store bagger on the weekend.

I say put up or shut up.  If you're gonna talk trash come prove it.  This is your one chance. TNA's director of talent, Terry Taylor, is coming and will tell you where you stand and what you need to work on.  I've said numerous times that alot of the "talent" around NC is pretty bad.  Some of you disagree, well prove me wrong, shut me up.  We've been advertising this thing for over 2 months now, so you got no excuses not to be ready.  Is it in you?  Are you a professional or a keyboard/weekend poser?  goto www.theuwc.com to sign up.

WEEKEND
We got a great show today in Wilson.  Shawn Alexander, Aiden Chambers, Christian Tarr, Marvelous Mike, Alex Adonis, Dwayne Allen and the giant monster, all 6'8" 300+ lbs of him.  If the weather holds up, it will be an outside show.  Then Saturday, I'm off to the beach(where else, lol) and then to PWS with TNA's Petey Williams.  Me and most all my guys will be there.
Thursday, August 13, 2009
- good turnout at last friday's kinston show, around 200.  attendance has been up and down for most of the summer, but we can always count on kinston to have a good crowd.  we actully had more for this show then we did our anniversary show last month, but that show was on 4th july weekend so, you know.

- the show ended with john colt turning on me and revealing he brought the monster to the uwc and controlled him the whole time.  but he also revealed that the monster pursued erika cuz he liked her not becuz he wanted to hurt her.  erika smartly used that to her advanatge and pursuaded the monster to help me and her fight colt and his crew.  it was a big climax to a long running angle, complete with a double swerve NOBODY saw coming.  workers love our angles and storylines, THEY SAY WE HAVE THE BEST.  we spend alot of time and thought on them.  some of our best stuff were "who's your baby's daddy", "the monster", "the russian mail order bride", "battle for trainees contracts", "kimo destroys the UWC school", "the hot or not challenge", "the stanky leg", the ladder rumble matches, double ladder matches and more.

- I HATE RELYING ON OTHER PEOPLE.  For the 2nd straight kinston show we did not have a cage match cuz the person we were renting it from did not come thru.  THAT WILL NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN. we will be getting our own cage so we do not have to rely on anyone else.  IF YOU WANT SOMETHING DONE RIGHT, YOU MUST OFTEN DO IT YOURSELF.

- i took my first fireball at the show. ended up taking two of them.  pretty cool, although you run the risk of getting seriously burned.

Downfalls
For the past year my trainees have been telling me about the poor turn outs at other indy shows.  Less than a 100 at a show with a former TNA/WCW star, 20 people at a promotions first and 2nd show, 60 out in central NC, so on and so forth.  Our weakest show is wilson(between 70-100 usually).  But its our newest town, in a tiny building with no AC, so it is wut it is.  Looking back indy's used to draw more 8 years ago.  So what happened?  IDK.  Bad economy? wrestlings less popular now? Not sure.

Some things I can suggest is better posters, better talent and better shows.  I see alot of posters for shows and most of them are done POORLY.  The grahics are great but whats on them is dumb.  Who should be put on a poster?  People that draw.  Big guys, good looking people, masked wrestlers, people who look like athletes.  I see posters with guys that look like grocery store baggers, couch potatoes, backyarders and wannabe's.  Average person sees those posters and it will not entice them to come.  Posters are supposed convince people to come, not make them laugh.  You put people like Shatter, Mia Yim, Kimo, Novak, Adonis, the monster, people that make you think pro wrestling.  Not people that make you think high school punk rock band or barbecue eating contest.   House of Pain has excellent posters for their shows and guess wut?  They draw big crowds (that is when they actually have shows, they take too much time off).  When they have shows, they are #1 drawing indy in the state.    The graphics are great and everyone on it looks professional.
