KJ SAWKA CLONES HIMSELF VIA IPHONE APP

Dear Readers,

June 9, 2009 - Seattle - KJ Sawka has announced the worldwide release of DrumBanger, a
simulation of his half-electronic drum set that gives fans a way to remix and sequence Sawka's
music from their iPhones and iPod Touches.  Loaded with cd-quality samples of KJ Sawka's
live drums and massive synth sounds, DrumBanger puts the user behind the drums to deconstruct
and then reassemble the music into a new creation.  DrumBanger represents a new way to
consume and enjoy music: not just by listening to it, but by simultaneously teaming
up with the artist to create it.

DrumBanger Puts Fans in the Cockpit
of Sawka's Drum 'n Bass Machine

"DrumBanger gives the audience a chance to create music the way I do,"  said Sawka.  "Writing and
performing music is my life passion, and DrumBanger is my gift to the world in our modern, computer
phone times.  Now you can be involved in the music making process and get an idea of how beats
are made and loops are played from a different point of view... the drum throne."  DrumBanger
users touch and rub different instruments and devices in Sawka's drum set to compose sounds, and
can then arrange intros, verses, refrains, and outros using the Sawkquencer - a specialized
music sequencer.

DrumBanger is based on the GroovWare music remix platform, from Seattle-based developer General UI.
GroovWare will bring a series of artist-branded apps that, like DrumBanger, will allow fans
to listen to and reshape the artist's music.  "We're looking forward to launching a whole new category
of applications, in partnership with major artists, that will make mobile music an experience of creativity,
not just consumption," said General UI manager Jason Thane.

FEATURES

D&B in South America: Everyone knows about drum & bass in Brazil - DJ Marky and his chums helped to put South America's largest country well and truly on the map thanks to a golden period at the end of the last century. A decade on, the rest of the continent has also been bitten by the bug and Knowledge has been finding out what all the fuss is about in one of the scene's newest frontiers.

Friction: Throwing a sharp shuriken into the neck of the music industry in the form of his new solo mix series entitled 'Assassin', DJ Friction is on a stealth mission to infiltrate your stereo and slice your cerebral with a deadly arsenal of music.

Suv: You no doubt know DJ Suv from his time in Full Cycle and Reprazent but Suv has been doing his own thing off the beaten track for a few years now. We visit him at his home in Spain to find out what's he's been up to recently and what he's got in store for us...

UNCZ: As anyone who heard Dizzee Rascal's special appearance on London's Kool FM back in November 2007 will testify, UNCZ certainly live up to their name. Featuring the considerable vocal talents of Skibadee, Fun and Harry Shotta and the DJ / production skills of Ruffstuff, the foursome have been creating quite a stir in drum and bass circles since then. We caught up with them to hear their plans for world domination.

Resound: With Finish producer / DJ / artist Resound taking a much needed break from his studio to visit the UK, Knowledge figured it would be rude not to hang out with him and have a few beers.

Exile: Exile is arguably the most intelligent and technically minded music producer that has ever made drum & bass. The guy can program C++. He is a key feedback provider for Native Instrument's Reaktor software. In this interview, we get inside Exile's brain, and prize out some interesting techie philosophy.

KJ Sawka ....

Undefined Connectivity EP Review ....

KJ Sawka’s new EP release is his 4th solo
release to date. It is hard to rate this new release because each release put
out by KJ Sawka is like a new chapter in his creative
novel. This being said the only way to properly review this new release
entitled Undefined Connectivity is to go track by track. So pick up the release
and give it a listen and read along. ....

.. ..

Track 1: New Life (feat. Christa Wells) ....

.. ..

This track with its glitch characteristics and the vocal
compliments of Seattle based Christa Wells, the lead singer of Dabouge (www.myspace.com/dabouge), gives you a ride through
KJ’s rapid fire drumming style which makes you forget there is only a man on
the other end behind a drum set. This track also has a downtempo sound to it
allowing the listener a chance to take a breather on this one it is then
followed by an intense build up that could set off anyone who suffers from
anxiety. KJ Sawka is truly a breath of fresh air with
this one, drum and bass has not visited this style in a long time. ....

.. ..

Track 2: My Girl ....

.. ..

I would categorize this one as glitch pop. Blake Lewis definitely
rubbed off on KJ while being on tour, being a member of his band ADD, however,
the first drop makes any fan of drum and bass nod their head and sing along
remembering those who are closest to them with this heartfelt tune. KJ usually
in his live performances uses his vocals, but never in a clear sense. On this
track I guess you could call this his lyrically debut
and he actually nails it showing yet another skill this man has…this is a track
that I can imagine will make dance music charts without a doubt.....

.. ..

Track 3: Airplane Girl ....

.. ..

Fuckin
blast off!!! This is the KJ display we all know and love, truly displaying raw
drumming skills throughout the track and through that complexity he still has
the ability to hit triggers to set off the other samples and sounds that make
up the track; and that’s only the first two minutes. The remainder of the track
I picture is a panic scene on an airplane with peanuts and luggage flying
around and the stewardess are all dressed in black leather but we never know
what ends up happening since it fades to black…dope track _....

.. ..

Track 4: Void of Truth....

.. ..

Downtempo,
dub step tunage with eerie vocals in the distance
then this track takes a quick left into drum and bass madness not disappointing
anyone who digs the KJ sound; again with the raw drumming sound, this one is
made for the dance floor.....

.. ..

Track 5: Chasing Lions....

.. ..

This magical journey created by KJ Sawka
and Jason Camiolo (www.camiolo.com) which I like to
call the epic track of this EP. This track gives you the full picture on why
many artists across many different genres of music want to collaborate with the
one like KJ Sawka. Close your eyes and bob thy head
to this one, this is the escape you have been searching for. It is KJ at the
symphony but created only by two men…simply amazing. ....

.. ..

Bonus review: ....

Forthcoming Remix album....

New Life Remix by Self Similar _....

.. ..

Calming at first then just becomes FUCKING NASTY. This track has
your dub step sound that will make any dance floor just STOMP…defiantly a sound
that is hard to find out there today…props to Self Similar on this one (check
out the rest of his stuff at www.myspace.com/selfsimilardub) ....

_....

Over all I give this EP a, press play and let it play, worthy
listening rating. This is not one of those EPs where you dig the single and the
rest of the EP is rubbish. The cost of the EP is also great being a digital
release so pick it up…you can get it at Itunes,
Amazon, Amazon UK, DJ Download, Resonant Vibes, Juno Downloads, Dance Tune,
Audio Jelly, Beats Digital, Beets Labs, and WE7_ _....

.. ..

App Quick Stats

Tap Tap Revenge 2

Taking the iPhone’s potential even further, Tapulous is here to show us how games can play good and sound awesome.
The Tap Tap Revenge series has come a long way since its humble
beginnings almost two years back. Indeed, back in September ‘07, indie
developer Nate True spent a couple of days designing the game’s first
incarnation: Tap Tap Revolution.
The latest edition of the game, aptly titled Tap Tap Revenge 2, arrived at the App Store today. Tapulous has been hard at work polishing and updating the original, bringing it right up to spec with App Store high-flyers like Rolando and Zen Bound.
The game sports a wealth of features — online multiplayer, a library
of free tracks to download, career mode — alongside a serious graphical
overhaul, taking the title into 3D territory.

Start!

Taking its inspiration from the rhythm-action genre, in particular the Dance Dance Revolution
series, Nate True’s original 2007 creation squashed the rhythm
experience down to the touch and iPhone. It was a different time though
— there was no App Store and therefore no official Apple-sanctioned
place for True to develop his creation.
And so Tap Tap Revolution found its first home on jailbroken iPhones
and iPod touches across the globe. The game design and aesthetic
evolved, the community grew and bustled, Tap Tap Revolution became an
illegitimate classic.
Jump to present day, almost two years later, re-named Tap Tap
Revenge, the rhythm-action series has found its home at the App Store.
Now published by Tapulous — the crew behind Twinkle and Friendbook,
amongst others — it’s got serious backing and has been embraced by the
music industry, evident by the wealth of tracks available in the latest
edition.
The folks at Tapulous have been crazy busy since releasing the
original Tap Tap Revenge. Capitalizing on the game’s engine and boiling
hot reception by iPhone and touch owners alike, TTR has become a series
in its own right.
In the past year, Tap Tap Revenge has been followed by two other
editions. There’s TTR: Nine Inch Nails, a re-skin of the game which
exclusively features Reznor’s weird industrial dabblings and, for folks
who fancy something a little more upbeat, TTR: Dance which includes
tracks from Justice, Moby and Daft Punk.

No Limit

The latest addition to the series, Tap Tap Revenge 2, isn’t just a
small tweak, it’s a complete update, upping the ante with a new
features, new graphics and new modes.
The basics of the gameplay are still intact, though. After picking a
tune to tap along to, you’re presented with a playing field with lots
of glowing orbs flying towards you from the distance. Once the orbs hit
the threshold at the bottom of the screen, you simply tap them.
in-game
For beginners to the whole rhythm-action thing, it can seem a little
strange and unnatural at first, kind of like putting your jeans on
backwards to be just like 80’s hip-hop sensation Salt-n-Pepa — it works
but it doesn’t feel right for a while.
After some practice, you get your head round the notion of tapping in time to the music and your focus can turn to the brand-new achievements board accessible via Career Mode.
career

Modes And Scales

It’s an all-encompassing game, as is evident in the various
different modes offered; there’s One Player for soloists, Two Player
for those who like to swing to the groove together and, ideal for those
with a competitive temperament, a feature-rich Online Mode.
The One Player mode comes with the standard difficulty options —
Easy, Medium, Hard and Extreme — but also includes a new one that I’d
not seen before: Kids.
The Kids mode is a particularly clever addition on the part of
Tapulous. The idea is that the game is stripped down to a kind of
immensely simple level, nothing too demanding, flashing light to tap on.
Testing Kids mode out, though, I couldn’t help but think it would be
perfect for beginners, too. There’s a whole raft of potential new
players who would find this mode an ideal starting point but may find
the fact that it’s called Kids a tad alienating. But I’m nitpicking because, so far, there’s so much to love and so little to complain about.
revenge-mode
The other difficulties seem to be paced just right for players
looking to skill up before learning the game’s nuances — like scoring
even higher by using Revenge Mode — and taking it online in an attempt
to advance up the ranking board.
When I’m not writing for TheAppleBlog, or making music,
rhythm-action games are something I adore and like to think I excel at.
As such, after a few practice rounds on the lower difficulty levels, I
tried out Crystal Method’s exclusive TTR 2 track Double Down Under in Extreme and had a serious blast: It was challenging, fast-paced and, I’m pleased to note, seriously good fun.

Getting The Band Together

Several months back, I was sat on a train speeding through Finland.
My travel companion and I had an array of tech goodies to keep us
entertained, including a Nintendo DS, Macbook and iPod touch. We ended
up playing TTR’s original Two Player mode on my touch.
The updated version of Two Player overhauls the graphics and adds in
a catch-up feature, but keeps the essentials that made it so appealing
in the first place. The big thing is that two people can play off one
device, simply by laying it flat on the table and putting the iPhone
between you.
It leads to crazy, kinetic tsunamis of tapping as both of you
frantically tap and bash away, trying to eek out the track’s rhythm
amid the flurry of tapping and confusion which ensues. There’s not much
to it but there doesn’t have to be, it’s quick and easy fun, and a
great way to get beginners involved in the game.
TTR has a dedicated following and its this base of users that will
make for a vibrant TTR 2 community in the weeks and months to come. The
online mode certainly makes sense in the general scheme. One Player
becomes a place to practice alone, building up your technique and
learning tracks, then, when you’re ready for live musical carnage, take
your game online.
Unfortunately, while testing the game, the Tapulous server seemed to
be inaccessible a couple of times. Not a good start but I have faith in
Tapulous. This game is a big deal and a massive investment of time and
money to them; as such I know that they’ll be working to resolve any
day-one toothing issues and I’m already looking forward to some hectic
online battles in the coming weeks.

Wired For Sound

The music selection on offer in TTR 2 is a seriously big deal. The
folks at Tapulous have been hob-knobbing with the industry big wigs,
meeting with the fresh talent and even getting independent artists in
on the action.
What essentially results from all this deal-doing is that there’s an
immense library of music on offer. Before you even get to the
downloads, there’s an exclusive track included with the game from
Crystal Method which, while it isn’t my cup of chai, fits the game
perfectly.
downloads
Tap on over to the downloads section and there’s purportedly over
150 tracks on offer, absolutely free. In among the stuff you’ve not
heard of, there are some big names in the Tap Tap Revenge 2 library,
including Death Cab for Cutie, Daft Punk and The Whip.
As if that wasn’t generous enough, apparently there will also be new
tracks released every Thursday. It’s not all about giving though, dig a
track enough that you’ve just got to have it and you can also buy it by
clicking a handy iTunes link. It’s savvy on the part of Tapulous and
genuinely useful for us players.

KJ SAWKA’S LATEST PRODUCTION “UNDEFINED CONNECTIVITY” TAKES US TO HIS MOST UNIFIED,
SIGNATURE SOUND TO DATE!  Imagine for a moment… KJ Sawka galloping at a dangerously vicious
pace that only he can harvest, manipulating massive towering arcs of sinusoid bass waves that overtake you
and send you off into another dimension. His hands are like those of a magician constructing melodies of electro
& glitch. KJ Sawka’s latest album will be released worldwide January 27, 2009.

(“I wanted to change it up a bit, by adding something a little different... I never imagined it would be my own voice”,
said KJ Sawka about his vocals on his featured track “My Girl”)

For the first time KJ Sawka himself is the vocoded vocalist. Nestled in the center of this dark geometry is the single
“My Girl - Track #2" where KJ carves out his signature insect break-beats against rolling mid-tempo sine waves,
hauntingly complemented by the sounds of violins and a raw B-3 organ riff.

Right from the beginning Track #1 “New Life”, features the timeless and elegant voice of Christa Wells - weaving
through massive bass break downs, taking you on a epically electric journey. Track #3  “Airplane Girl” gives you
an attack of KJ Sawka’s splintered break-beats and trance like keyboard lines. While Track #4 “Void of Truth”,
gives the drum n’ bass world a unique take on sub-genre ‘drumfunk’. Summing up his latest works, the 7-minute
track “Chasing Lions” Co-written by Jason Camiolo – cinematically swings swords and daggers and grinds bits
of glass.  All the while, slicing and chopping fragments of unconventional jungle rhythms’, and organic crunch step beats.

KJ Sawka has teamed up with Sony Creative Software (the company that makes Acid, an industry-standard music
production studio software), to create a loop and sample DVD containing 650 megabytes of original Sawka drum n' bass,
breakbeat, dubstep, and electronica drum rhythms (plus keyboard melodies and signature basslines) as well as all the
stems that make up the featured song “My Girl”  - which will allow anyone and everyone to remix, chop up, decimate or
remake the song to their liking. What is the title for this insane creation you might ask?  KJ Sawka Presents: Drum n'
Bass & Beyond which is to be distributed and released in January 2009. Sony Creative Software has a forum site called
ACIDplanet.com® where they will be holding a “My Girl” Remix Contest for producers and remixers starting 1.15.2009.

KJ Sawka continues to push boundaries and do things his way. Making sure he has left no stone un-turned his beats are
out there for anyone to remix and use in their own productions, the electronic scene might be seeing more of KJ Sawka
than we ever thought possible.  Sawka will be releasing more stems of his own songs (past and present) on his soon-to-be
remodeled website as well in early 2009.
