... love this band, but I don't think there is much love for trip hop anymore... So bands like Tricky, Massive Attack, and Portishead have sort of fallen off the popularity map. It's a shame really becuase Portishead just released a very interesting album. I am enjoying its complexity and depth. During that whole electronica revolution that happened ten years ago or so, Portishead was killing it in the mainstream. I blame it partially on the overplayed bad electronica that was on the radio / mtv at the time and partially on Portishead for not releasing hardly any material at all for, what seems like, a decade. Regardless, they are a great band and their newest album "Third" deserves a listen. Here's a Portishead classic:

... gruff voice, wicked demeanor, awesome aesthetics and a wicked sense of humor... Tom Waits is sort of a new thing for me. Sort of like I "I can't stand Nick Cave / now I can't get enough" nonsense. Crazy stuff. He's always been sort of a musical outsider. His music ain't exactly for the masses, but it is unique and interesting. In looking at some interviews, I found this one from the David Letterman Show. I never would have thought he would have such a killer sense of humor:

... wow... In a perfectly plan evening with a six-pack and some food, I was going to completely avoid people and the hooplah surrounding the National Championship Game. However, I couldn't help but to be sucked in to the festivities. My roommate convince me to go to a party, where I watched the Gators beat some team from Oklahoma. The opposition was good and managed the move the ball with ease. I am still confused how we won the game, but it was a victory nonetheless. Watching football, especially when my favorite team is play, is entirely nerve-wracking. I had intended to leave the party at half-time to get some sleep if we were winning by 40 points, which is typical for my UF football watching habits. This game however, kept me at the party until 12am and for me, that is late. I'm old. I need my sleep. The game was just too close, which made me so nervous, there was not a hope for sleep until the game ended. I have to give it up to Tim Tebow. People will hate on him all they want, but he is amazing. He's a nice guy. He plays with heart. He has fun. He is exciting to watch. He's now a two time National Champion along with some of the other Gators. Exciting stuff around Gainesville these days to be honest. Productivity seems to be stalled while we celebrate, but that's okay. At least it avoids talks of firings and budget cuts. Regardless, we are going to enjoy our third football national championship and celebrate in traditional UF style, quite possibly upholding our #1 party school ranking in the process. GO GATORS!

... Joe the "Plumber" is back... In an effort to cash in off of a media blitz to cover his average-ness, Joe the Plumber (who is not actually a plumber), is reportedly now a war correspondent for PajamasTV, some conservative website. All belittling aside, I am thoroughly convinced that we are giving the average person, entirely too much credit. During the election, Joe "The Plumber" was concerned about Obama's tax plan, citing that a person who "works hard to make more money for his family", will be punished for their success by way of taxation. Of course the pseudo plumber left out the fact that he only pulls in about 55-60K a year and would have never reached the 250K mark set by Obama in order to be taxed. God forbid his hard-earned money would go to a social service program or a government funded project to help out those who are less fortunate. Now this simpleton is going to be a war correspondent in order to "...let Israel's ''Average Joes' share their story.'" ( yahoo.com). Uneducated, completely bias, completely moronic, he knows nothing outside of the borders of Ohio, let alone the borders of Israel / Palestine. PJTV feels confident enough to have him cover issues outside of his scope of comprehension. At least while he's over there, he could maybe fix a toilet or two. The frustrating bit is that we celebrate people like Joe The "Plumber". The public will hold his views and opinions in high regard. We celebrate his average-ness. We are completely content to accept this average-ness and ridicule those with extraordinary intelligence. Ridiculous.

...the rejection letter error oversight, adds a bit of humor I guess...
My application for my dream job was rejected (again). I'm not bitter about it. It's competitive. I understand. What is interesting though is the half emails and strange messages I would receive when applying for this program. During the application process, it would ask the applicant to save, but once you did it would close out the application and make you log in again. Strange and quite annoying. Furthermore, in my rejection letter, they seemingly half-sent it. The last few paragraphs stated the following: "However, I have often heard from past applicants that they have been able to use parts of their application in pursuing other jobs, and I hope that, like them, you won’t feel that your work has been entirely wasted. You should also know that the task of narrowing down applications t"
No closing statements. No "sincerely. Nothing. It just stops with a "t". It seems that such a global ad/marketing/PR powerhouse would not have overlooked such a gross oversight. The punchline to all of this is that they sent another rejection letter with the completed paragraph. So my application was so good, they rejected me twice. Cheers guys! Oh well. I'll keep applying. Thanks for the tips Susan! I think I'll do that...

... saxby? you're going with saxby? only if you say so... All party politics aside, Saxby Chambliss is a weird name. It is almost as weird as Zell Miller. Is there some sort of pretentious southerner's baby naming book I don't know about? Jesus... To add an ever weirder element to his already weird name, have a look at his thanksgiving message and see if you notice anything a bit strange about it:

... no thanks gramps, you keep the die beetus and the mustache to yourself... Wilford Brimley...he annoys me. I get so bothered every time his fat, mustached face shows up on the TV touting some " die beatus" medicine. Why him? Does he even have die beatus? I am not sure, but I guess old people dig him. Maybe they think that he is old, he is to be trusted with their die beatus problems...I'm not buying into that bit whatsoever. Why is he so bossy? Whenever his commercials appear on the TV, I feel like I am being preached to. Being fed the whole church hellfire & brimstone thing. Not feeling it. Maybe the old people like being bossed around, but he can take his die beatus medicine and shove it up his fat bossy mustache...prick. Why does he have a mustache? I'm not sure about the whole mustache thing. Mustaches are all around stupid and pointless. His in particular is rediculous. You can't even see his fat mouth. Jerk. Why does he pronounce diabetes incorrectly? Die Beatus? Seriously? It's like george bush pronouncing it Nuk-u-ler. Wilford is a republican who adamently supported old main McCain, so there might be some connection there. Here are a few videos other Wilford haters out there have created. The last one is super annoying, so proceed with caution:

... impressively entertaining... Star power and eye candy is good, but it does not always equal a good movie. Surprisingly though, Wanted, is a damn good movie. It's got an almost naked Angelina, which is great, and more ridiculous/unrealistic special effects than I could ever imagine. Oh, how did I love the plot twist. I expected straight forward action flick and I got a super cool plot twist. In watching the trailer, one would think that this film would be shit...but I have to admit that it was time well spent.

...things aren't bad at all...I tend to bitch about how things suck or complain about this and that. Everyone does it and those who put up this front of "everything is grand" are liars. Things are not really all that bad. Yea, my car may break down or someone might cut me off whilst driving, or work might suck to the ninth power...all quite insignificant in the grande scheme. However, in thinking about it, things are quite good - I've got a job, I've got food, I've got some sweet computers, a nice house with cheap rent, a semi-reliable car, a great mp3/cd collection, some other nice shit and some reliable friends. So, honestly I have nothing to complain about. Tim Minchin sort of helps to put things in perspective:
