November 23, 2009 - Monday
Caleb is out of school this week for Thanksgiving vacation.  We got his first trimester report card last week and he's doing great.  Not so well on the social interaction part of his grade but everything else is really good.  He knows more sight words than the teacher has taught him.  I'm really proud of him.

He just turned 6 years old!  I am in shock.  He's the most amazing little guy.  This last week he burned his fingers at church (he reached for the hot glue gun) so he's convalescing at the moment.  He got a Go Diego, Go game for the leapster for his birthday and he's been playing that every opportunity he gets.  He really loves that show.  Right now his two favorite movies are Monsters Inc and Monsters Vs. Aliens.

Hubby has been extremely busy at work, but is enjoying his new promotion.  My husband's a smart man and we're both really happy that he is finally working a job where he gets to use that massive noggin of his.  We are also very grateful that in this tough economy we don't have to worry about him losing his job.

The other day i got home from a long day out and wanted to put on something more comfortable, then i realized that these were my only pregnancy clothes and i didn’t HAVE anything more comfortable and i started getting mopey. Hubby asked what was wrong and i told him and he told me to put on his sweatpants and a shirt and sure enough, they were wonderful.  I was so happy i had tears in my eyes.  Lately i haven’t been cut out for human interaction…

I was feeling bubbly feelings a few days ago while lying down in bed and i THOUGHT it was the baby moving but i wasn’t sure.   and then this morning i felt them again (as i lay crouched over the toilet)  At my appointment (just an hour ago) we found the heartbeat right over where i thought i was feeling the baby moving this morning.  I am so in love with this baby.

it was the first time we got to hear the heartbeat on the doppler

I lost more weight    I’m down 9 lbs from the start of the pregnancy (and i’m only 6 lbs away from my non-pregnant goal weight now, the irony has not escaped me)  Right now i'm chowing down on a snicker's bar.  You know, for health reasons...

they want to schedule the BIG ultrasound already *gasp*  Time if flying by.

Hubby doesn’t want to talk about names yet but I’ve been going through my name lists a lot.  I can’t find anything PERFECT.  DS’s name was perfect, we’ve set the bar pretty high.

My nausea is getting better even though i threw up again this morning.  it has been ALMOST a week since i threw up last.  I blame the jalapeno poppers i had with diner.  I couldn’t help it, they were delicious.

otherwise, all is well.

i am loving stuffchristianslike.net  Its funny and smart and incredibly awesome.

this is #37:  Abstinence

I’m a huge fan of abstinence, especially now that I’m married and don’t have to follow it. But I almost left it off this list because I think despite how much we like the idea of abstinence, we’ve done a really poor job explaining the benefits. Here’s what usually happens for 13-year old Christian boys. Their parents or their youth leader says, “Look, you should stay pure and not have sex so that you keep your marriage holy.” That’s their first option. Then the world says to them, “Look at me! Sex is wild and fun and neon and loud and whoa Spring Break!” And as a 13-year old that was an easy decision for me to make. (And if you believe that the pursuit of holiness alone will inspire your 13-year old son first let me say that’s adorable, and second I honestly hope he does not come in contact with one of the 25% of teenage girls in this country that has an STD.)

Here’s what we should be saying about abstinence. The best reason not to have sex until you’re married is that it makes your sex life so much better after you’re married. When you don’t bring baggage into a sexual marriage relationship things get wild a lot faster. You get to have crazy, awesome, Prince type sex. There’s no memories of other people, no hang ups to work through. It’s just you and your wife getting ridiculous and enjoying the hot sexy good time that holiness makes possible. This is what it sounds like, when doves cry.

i have to laugh whenever i hear someone say this.  Mostly because i was taught that its southern speak for "thats pathetic."

"Sam's been throwing up in the morning?  Bless her heart!"
"Anne's been having a hard time paying her bills, bless her heart!"

etc.

So when i found some confirmation on the internet i just about pee
d my pants.

There was a question on my message board about what strange things we do/do not beleive in.  Because what i think is all so very intersting to the rest of you I thought i'd blog about it.

Cryptozoology-the study of extinct/unclassified creatures.  This means things like Bigfoot, yeti, Nessie, chupacabra, and things like the Tasmanian tiger which some people believe are not extinct.

I believe that its a big world out there and as much as we would like to believe that we know everything there is to know on this planet, its just not true.

So while i doubt that there is a Nessie or a Bigfoot, i can't honestly say that there i no way for them to be true.  The Tasmanian tiger is supposed to have gone extinct in the early 1900s but there have been sightings of creatures that look exactly like them a lot more recently.  I think they could exist, its probably just wishful thinking.  It hurts my heart to think of all the animals that we have killed off forever.  Chupacabra (I'm going to get berated for this one) i think its likely to exist.  There have been enough sighting and enough physical evidence to very nearly prove its existence.  I doubt it flies, LOL.  Its probably some subspecies of coyote or something, nothing really magical.

Dragons, i'm pretty sure they existed once, during a time when man was around.  They could have been old dinosaur like things, or something completely different but there are just too many stories from too many different cultures (Europeans, Asians, south Americans, native Americans, etc.) for it to all be made up.  As for them breathing fire, who knows.  Perhaps they were seen on a cold winter day and their hot breath looked like steam.  Then again there is a certain beetle that shoots fire out of its butt, so who's to say that the "dragons" didn't do something simular.

UFOs--i beleive it when people say that they've seen an unidentified flying object.  Whether or not those are from earth or not is the question.  I believe the government does have technology that we (as your normal everyday person) knows very little/nothing about.  And yes, they do need to test our their experiments somewhere.  I think that if AREA 51 did exist as one of their testing facilities, it is no longer the case.  Its way too high profile for them to successfully keep secrets there.  I don't think the government has one big nefarious plot to keep the masses ignorant and complacent, but i do think they have their secrets.

I don't believe that people get abducted by/see aliens.  Its not that i don't believe THEY can exist.  Like the cryptozoology thing, i think its incredibly arrogant to believe that we know EVERYTHING about the universe.  I just don't think that earth is the magnet of the universe for alien sexual predators.  I seriously doubt that the aliens would come here just to peek in our windows and touch our naughty parts.

(And now it gets into the religious stuff, you can plug your ears and run away if you'd like.)

I don't believe that this entire universe was put here just for us.  The bible says that the stars were created to declare the glory of God Psalm 19:1 He crated the stars so that no matter how smart we are and how advanced our technology is, that we are aware of how small we are and how little we really do know.

At the risk of sounding like a religious nut who sees the devil in everything, i believe they are demonic (wait, don't run away) just hear me out.  People who claim to have seen aliens up close almost always turn away from God.  Now this is totally a work of fiction but have you ever read Dean Koontz's The Taking. its a really creepy story but a good illustration. In the end it quotes (some famous person) of saying that if someone goes into a uncivilized society (say an amazonian tribe who has lost contact with the outside world) and showed them our technology they would see it as a miracle-an act of God. It said that if you show an unbelieving world a great miracle of God (an angel, etc.) they will see it as alien. Except, of coarse, he said it much better.  So what I'm trying to say is that if somebody who does not believe sees something otherworldly they're gong to think its an alien.

and look at the facts, these things always happen when people are isolated, alone.  It is never a good experience.  Never.  It causes fear and confusion and just sets people apart from all those around them.  These things rarely do anything to affect the physical environment, just what is going on in a person's head.  And usually, once a person is attacked, it is done repeatedly.  When people speak of it they get mocked so many people would suffer through it in silence rather than be called crazy.  It screams of demonic influence.

Ghosts--I don't believe in ghosts are the classic term implies.  I don't think its dead people hanging around.  I don't believe that sentient spirits linger.  Ever see ghost hunters?  A lot of the creepy things CAN be explained by science.  Also, i beleive that there can be "afterimages" of an event.  These spiritual energies can (sort of) be explained by science.

As for the sentient ghosts, once again i believe them to be demonic.  I don't think that there is any sentient spirit outside of God's creation.  If it is not an angel (and it should be pretty obvious if it is) then it is a demonic spirit.

I believe that demons are drawn to places of high emotion (fear, anger, depression, etc. have you ever been somewhere where the atmosphere just feels ugly) and that's why they are seen in places where people have died.

I know there are a lot of spirits out there that are not considered malicious, but i believe that is just a subtle way for them to be accepted.  If they showed up as "evil" spirits right away, people would cast them out.  But if they showed up acting like a "mischievous child" or a "lonely woman" or "my dead grandmother" one would be less likely to cast them out because they think they're "safe" spirits despite the fact that they are scaring the people in the home.

I actually knew someone who started praying to their "grandmother" who haunted their house whenever it would scare her.  Talking about feeding the energy. *shiver*
November 15, 2009 - Sunday
i'm not trying to be snarky but can somebody explain this to me?

i was reading this article and was confused (aparently it doesn't take much)

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/earthnews/6554023/Giant-iceberg-spotted-off-Australia.html

at the end of the article it talks about how it could be a sign of global warming and i don't understand why.  This iceburg was further NORTH than they've ever seen one, how does that mean that things are warmer?
October 29, 2009 - Thursday
OK, so i'm 9 1/2 weeks (about 2 1/2 months) pregnant and so far I have had:

3 dr's visits
1 ultrasound

and they have taken:
4 containers of urine (eww, what are they doing with all my pee?)
5 vials of blood from me
1 vial of blood from the Hubby

That's a lot!

I'm totally going to be keeping track of this as my pregnancy progresses.  This is going to be a fun experiment.

Current mood:  happy
I haven't posted about him in a while.

Well he has been having a lot of trouble at school but after an IEP meeting everyone is working with him on making sure that he is not completely overwhelmed at school, and ever since that happened his behavior has been absolutely perfect.

In his class, he's scoring academically at the top of his class right now.  I worried taht the little bit of schooling that i gave him last year would make him bored in class but that doesn't seem to be too much of a problem.  He is feeling great because he does so well at school and it has really boosted his confidence.  I'm glad that we worked on his phonics and sight words before so that now he only needs to concentrate on his classroom manners and making friends.

I feel like i complain about him too much because we are just so different and he is just so HARD to parent.  And i don't want to change who he is, but i want to turn his focus towards better things.  (i love his strong will and its great when he's standing up to someone who is trying to convince him to do something wrong, but sometimes i just wish he would LET IT GO and realize that we are NOT having cookies and pudding for dinner no matter how much he cries and tells me that I'm hurting his feelings)

I sat in with his class today and I loved watching him.  As soon as he sat down at his center he got straight to work.  He was incredibly polite the entire time and was encouraging the other students around him, complimenting them on their work and helping them find the right color in the crayon box.

Caleb is just an awesome little guy.  He's so smart and he's funny and his strong will is what makes him so wonderful.  I know that he won't be a huge pushover like his Mama was when she was little.  I love that he speaks his mind, because while sometimes it can be frustrating, most of the time its adorable and insightful and funny.  He has the most amazing way of looking at the world around him that just makes even the ordinary things seem new and magical.

I love him bunches

August 12, 2009 - Wednesday
I am just loving the alliteration in the title.  I am obviously too easily amused.

Pandora has a VERY large tumor on her breast and is going in for surgery tomorrow. Being as how she's a rat, i worry about the drugs they use to put her under. Its common that some rats don't wake up. I'm worried about her.

Also my SIL's cat is going in tomorrow too, One-Eyed Petunia. She's a stray that had an eye injury. SIL is taking her in tomorrow to get the rest of her eye removed and stitched closed, and to get spayed. The thing is that SIL lives way up in the country and we don't think it would be a good idea for her to wake up at 6am tomorrow morning to get all the kids around to take the cat to the vet, SO she's bringing Petunia to me today and I'm taking them both in tomorrow.

Thing is that i have two cats, and Petunia is VERY aggressive to other cats. So I'm going to have to kick the other two cats outside for the day, and then bring them in at night, and lock petunia in the bathroom. Which is...complicated.

My cats go outside SOMETIMES but they are mainly indoor cats. I trust them enough to know they'll stay in the area and not cross streets, but I'm still worried about it. But i don't think that i could keep Petunia in the bathroom all day with Caleb in the house.

So, prayers would be appreciated, both for the surgeries tomorrow and the situation with all the animals tonight while we wait.
