Wise wins second award

Leeds United boss Dennis Wise has been named League One manager of the month for the second successive time.

The Elland Road club have responded to their 15-point pre-campaign penalty for going into administration and are yet to be beaten in the league so far this season.

Leeds were only denied a fifth consecutive victory during September following a 1-1 draw with Gillingham last Saturday.

The late equaliser at the Priestfield also ended the West Yorkshire club's 100 per cent start to the new season.

However, after taking the opportunity to hit out at the Football League following the award of last month's accolade, Wise was more gracious this time around.

"We're all a group," he told the club's official website.

"It's not just staff, players and fans. Everyone involved with this club - we're all in this together."

Wise won the award ahead of Southend United's Steve Tilson, Martin Ling of Leyton Orient and Nottingham Forest boss Colin Calderwood.

Leeds United boss Dennis Wise has signed two new strikers on loan after both Jermaine Beckford and Tresor Kandol were sent off in Saturday's 1-1 draw at Gillingham.

Wayne Andrews moves to Elland Road from Coventry City while Mark De Vries arrives from Leicester City.

Both players have been snapped up on one-month deals as Beckford and Kandol have been handed one-match bans following their red cards at the Priestfield Stadium.

Andrews and De Vries have been signed in time to feature in Tuesday's League One encounter at Oldham Athletic.

Poyet hit with misconduct charge

Gustavo Poyet (left) with Leeds manager Dennis Wise
Poyet (left) hinted D'Urso has a vendetta against him and Wise
--> E IIMA --> --> S SF -->Leeds United assistant manager Gus Poyet has been charged with misconduct by the Football Association after he openly criticised referee Andy D'Urso.

Poyet suggested D'Urso held a vendetta against him and Leeds boss Dennis Wise going back to their playing days.

Poyet said at the time: "Andy D'Urso is not good enough for us and I don't want to see him at a Leeds match again."

The comments came after Leeds' second round Carling Cup defeat to Portsmouth. Poyet has until October 4 to appeal. --> E SF -->

Leeds lost the tie at Fratton Park 3-0 and Poyet, who was sent off by D'Urso during his playing career, added: "He can't forget things he's done to us in the past.

"It's sad and has happened again since we've been in management.

"He keeps laughing during games and doesn't make any decisions. If there is something complicated in the box he never gives it.

"We had a bet with the fourth official who would get the first yellow card and of course it was us.

"It is too much. It is personal. He has sent me off before and that's not hard but when it is against the team it is not right."

Bates confirms Shep talks

Monday Sep 10 2007 14:36

Leeds United chairman Ken Bates has confirmed weekend reports suggesting he had spoken to Freddy Shepherd recently, but insists he is not about to sell the League One side to the former Newcastle United supremo.

Bates says he discussed future investment opportunities with Shepherd but is adamant that he has no plans to sell United.

He told Yorkshire Radio: "This is inspired speculation because Freddy and I had lunch last week in Newcastle.

"But he's not about to swoop in a 'sensational deal' for Leeds and I'm not about to sell it either.

"Inevitably the subject of football came up, and he's still a bit sore about what happened at Newcastle. He'd like to get back in and I would like an investor, so the two fit in.

"Freddy is a wise old man - although he's younger than me - he's experienced and he would be an ideal partner, but it's gossip. I'm here for the long haul."
