The Nashville Light The Night Walk was
held on October 1st and was a tremendous success - 2,500 people walked
through the streets of downtown Nashville and raised valuable funds to
support The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Little Big Town and the
Real Wives of Country Music were so proud to be a part of this effort.
"Thank you to the fans who poured in so much support for these
women. I'm especially proud of my wife, Rebecca, and the other wives
for coming together on their husbands behalf. They raised $5,925,
which is $925 over their initial goal. Every contribution means so
much in finding a cure for this disease. Your generosity is an
inspiration to us. Thanks again, looking forward to an even bigger
next year! Peace & Love, Phillip"

In an article from CMT News, Karen speaks up about her recent pairing with John Mellencamp:
John Mellencamp Explains His Influence (or Not) on Country Music He Prepares for Summer Ballpark Tour With Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson By Craig Shelburne for CMT News During a recent visit to the CMT offices, John Mellencamp was asked about the treatment for his latest video, "A Ride Back Home." "Treatment? I don't know what that means," he replied. Luckily his duet partner -- Karen Fairchild of Little Big Town -- steps in. "Well, he's the video treatment because he always comes up with the concepts, so he just runs with whatever he wants to do. It's not the traditional way of soliciting treatments," she explains, referring to the common practice of asking video production companies to submit ideas. "Oh, I have never done that," Mellencamp says, softly. "I have made 50 videos. I think I did that one time, and I didn't like that experience. I made a video in 1984 called 'The Authority Song,' and I was on tour and I was very busy, and the record company hired some guy to direct the video. I didn't like that. I've always worked with people that I've known and had relationships with. I've always come up with a way to try to present the song." Then it dawns on him that "a really smart kid" -- Chris Milk -- directed him in "Walk Tall" in 2004. Fairchild also recalls that Mellencamp directed Bob Dylan's "Political World" video and asks if there was a treatment for it. "No, I called up Bob, and I said, 'Bob, here's what we're going to do,'" Mellencamp recalled. "And he said, 'OK, just don't make me look stupid.' That's all he said." Mellencamp can be equally reticent. Asked how it feels to turn on country radio and hear his influence, he says, "You know, I really don't think too much about that. I can turn on my radio and I hear my influences all the time. I think that if somebody makes something and it's out there, it belongs to whoever wants to use it next. ... I think if it's out there and in the air, it belongs to everybody. And everybody can use it. So I don't think it's a matter of even being an influence. I think it's just a matter of -- 'I hear that. I like that. It connected with me. I'm going to try to do the same thing.'" When Fairchild says Little Big Town is intimidated to cover a Mellencamp song, especially because they have played some shows together, he shrugs it off. "Well, I don't even know what you're talking about." [Read the full article here]

Karen and I called each other on the way into town that morning– as we so often do – to talk about the day. It was a perfectly normal conversation. I got to the venue a little before she did, and when she walked in, she still had her sunglasses on. I asked, “Why do you have your sunglasses on?” As if I didn’t know! Oh, I knew. Those glasses are a tell tale sign. It’s the beginning of a migraine! And when Karen gets a migraine, her life shuts down for about 24 hours. She gets very sick. Well, that was not going to work today. We did not have time for this migraine! She and I had gotten there early to get all dolled up for the Fan Club party – one of our favorite events of the whole year. Her pain was getting more and more intense. Eventually we made her a bed by lining up a bunch of chairs, and she lay there in another world as a lot of commotion ensued around her. What in the world were we going to do! We can’t have a Fan Club party without one of the four of us! We decided that we couldn’t disappoint all the fans, though, who had traveled so far to be here, so we headed out, without Karen, to talk to the press folks who had come. We tried to explain to them what kind of pain she was in, and they were all very gracious. At this point, we had no idea if she was going to make the party or not. But just as we were finishing some interviews, she walked in the room. It was like she rose from the dead! What a trooper! We were surprised but so happy to see her. We then walked into a room full of our sweet, loyal fans who are always a welcomed sight and feed us such great energy. Karen made it like a champ through the party and then through a 350-person meet and greet. She’s my hero! The show must go on, right! -Kimberly

I absolutely love playing at the Opry. I know we've heard people talk about it before, but every time we play there, I'm reminded of what a special place it is. You feel it when you walk in the building. We always get there early and hang out backstage waiting for our turn to play. I usually at some point end up wandering the halls. Those halls are lined with amazing pictures of Opry history.... moments in time that are so beautifully captured and preserved for people to enjoy over and over again. That's what you feel in those hallways. There is such a feeling of nostalgia and tradition and you can't help but feel a sense of reverence. That's such a great feeling, and I'm afraid those types of feelings are sometimes overlooked and overran in a fast paced society that is moving so quickly that it's sometimes hard to take the time to stop and let those kinds of emotions wash over you. I love tradition. I think it's so important to pass those types of concepts on to future generations. It means something. It connects you to the past. That's what the Opry makes me feel. We can't ever lose that. It is the rich heritage of a beautiful style of music that is steeped in tradition, family and the joy and pain of real life. The Opry is country music and I love it.
