Buffalohair: Cyber Attacks and Globalization
For
us who work in the pro democracy movement cyber attacks have been old
news since at least last September or 08’. Spam bombs as I call it have
hit us many times in the past and for the most part we’ve learned how
to deal with cyber garbage as a whole. The technology is quite
primitive but if one is not vigilant even the most archaic assaults can
be devastating. It’s almost laughable government sites were so
vulnerable though.
I
found it quite interesting to note that the media mentioned the latest
internet assaults came from North Korean sympathizers. Well the one
real sympathizer I know who already launches these types of attacks is
the government of Burma. With the help of their Russian technicians
they’ve been launching spam bombs for months now. So it is a safe bet
that Than Shwe and his band of thugs were involved in the latest
assault.
Just
with our technology we’ve identified the perpetrators and their
locations. The samplings of the spam all had .ru addresses but launched
from Burma, India and China in general. There were a few from the good
ole USA as well and hopefully they will be dispatched shortly. But for
the most part these parasitic spam assaults come from Asia. It’s quite
ironic that the US president is making nice with Putin while Putin’s
technicians are assisting Burma and China in launching these assaults.
Ah but no one pays attention.
With
US computer software companies located in Silicon Valley selling
computer and firewall technology to China it’s only a matter of time
before the cyber assaults gets more complex and more virulent. It’s
only a matter of time. But it’s all about the money and these firms
would sell their souls to the Devil if it made the corporate bottom
line more lucrative. Maybe they already have. It’s almost laughable
that we are empowering those who wish to do us harm while padding their
pockets as well. Ah but China is our favored nation thanks to Bill and
Hillary Clinton. You remember; the ones who sold American jobs to China.
Our
cyber enemies have already tested the waters and soon more assaults
will be launched. Guess everyone forgot the headline where it was
discovered that China had already infiltrated our power grid with their
invasive software. We’ve allowed for their obviously bugged electronics
to enter every facet of our cyber world because of the cheaper prices
of their goods.
We seem to
forget the numerous recalls of China’s defective and unsafe goods in
recent years. I’m still blown away by the sex drug baby toy disaster as
well as the poisoned dog food. Computer related items will undoubtedly
share in this constant rash of bogus goods and the totality of this
will be astronomical at the very least.
Globalization
and free trade are nothing more than a Trojan Horse. As we sell off our
assets and technology to other nations it will be corporations that
glean the profits at the taxpayer’s expense. The trade deficit has
continued to be in the red consistently since its inception to the
detriment to US, Canadian and European workers. But our so called
leadership continues to boast of its profitability. How far beyond
stupid is that eh? Sadly the only ones who see a clear profit are
politicians who are heavily invested with no loyalty to the nations
they were spawned from.
Oh well, to bad so
sad. If people are dumb enough to buy into corporatism then they
deserve what they get, feel good speeches that mask bold faced lies and
a second class nation. Mark my word, after America is run into the
ground financially we will be offered a Global solution to save our
butts and everybody will think it’s a miraculous solution.
Who
need sovereignty or self sufficiency anyway? The only question I have
is; will we still celebrate July 4th Independence Day whence we sell
our liberty to the scrap collectors? Or is it already sold but we
missed the sale?

 - H1N1 INFLUENZA VIRUS
Apparently the relatively benign h1n1 flu virus has only
killed thousands and not millions as once feared, thus far. Granted
there are new cases popping up everyday around the world regardless of
efforts to isolate this virus. Kudo’s to the World Health Organization
who always maintained vigilance with this pandemic while others
criticized them for overreacting. The death toll is still rising but
who cares, people die all the time right?
Regardless of the
virulence of the H1N1 virus this exercise or pandemic has shown how
futile man’s efforts are to stop it whence disease reaches epidemic
proportions. By the time vaccinations are finally produced to combat
this strain it will have already mutated only providing a deterrent to
the original strain. This is the scenario we will have when a much
deadlier virus breaks out in the future. When we realize how deadly the
next virus is it will be too late since we only pay attention after the
fact. Prevention is considered overreacting these days as people and
organizations are debased for their efforts to warn the public.
For the people
who’ve lost family members from this strain it was just as devastating
to them as the Black Plague or the 1918 pandemic that killed millions
around the world. I lost a cousin and an aunt to another flu strain in
years past with little fanfare so I’m vigilant regardless of the
purported virulence of these civilized diseases. Pandemics and
biological warfare have already devastated populations. Whether
intentional or not the arrival of Europeans to the America’s killed off
millions of Native’s do to the diseases they brought. Later cholera
infested blankets devastated Indigenous tribes during conquest
according to our oral history. With biological weapons in the arsenals
of many nations this is a weapon of mass destruction (WMD) equal to or
more then a thermal nuclear device.
The only real
deterrent to the spread of disease is vigilance from the public at
large and on an individual basis. We need to be more responsible and
take some simple precautions. Man’s indifference to the cries of hungry
and impoverished people has made the Earth a petri dish of new
diseases. With famine on the rise it is guaranteed we will face much
more virulent disease in the near future. Call it the domino effect for
starvation breeds pestilence and pestilence breeds pandemics. It’s sad
to note that profitability is the first priority when facing
environmental and humanitarian issues. Small wonder many people will
not survive the time of change. But I’ll bet they will have a nice
portfolio and be fashionable dead.

The
rust laden ship *(Kang Nam) Kim Jong II sent towards Burma has altered
its course and is headed back from which it came according to US Navy
officials who are tracking the rusted ship. It has also slowed down
considerable, possibly to conserve on fuel.
As the US and international
the international community ponder where and why it has altered its
course it is obvious to me this was only a distraction. Fact is if
people would remember, Burma sent one of it’s thugs to North Korea just
prior to Kim Jong II’s saber rattling exercise. Clearly this tactic was
meant to distract the attention of the world from the bogus trial of
Daw Aung San Suu Kyi proving how desperate Gen. Than Shwe is.
Aung San Suu Kyi posses a
threat to his self made election since her presents in the political
arena would surely guarantee his defeat AGAIN. The notion the 2010
election is anywhere near legal is preposterous as it is since it’s
only a vehicle to legitimize the criminal regime of Than Shwe’s Burma.
International corporations who continue to glean a handsome profit from
the enslavement of the people of Burma are also eager to legitimize the
regime. To some very real degree the rest of the world had bought into
this sham election by their dialogue about having an open election in
the first place. They seem to forget that only real election Burma had
was a dismal defeat of Than Shwe and his regime with 80% of the votes
going to Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and her National League for Democracy
party. And the election was sponsored by Than Shwe himself.
To further his cause Than
Shwe has indicted Aung San Suu Kyi on charges she violated the terms of
her house arrest with the wholly questionable intrusion of John Yettaw
into her compound. She was already in confinement for the crime of
surviving an assassination attempt orchestrated by the junta. Her first
arrest was for wining the election in 1990. She has already spent 13 of
19 years in confinement for the crime of winning the hearts of her
people fore she truly has become the beacon of democracy.
The world did nothing when
she was arrested for winning the election in the first place causing
thousands of people to be murdered in secret by the junta. World wide
negligence was also responsible for the whole sale arrests of pro
democracy advocates throughout the enslaved nation. The aftermath of
ambivalence by the world was also responsible for the wholesale
genocide that continues to this day with all the ethnic minorities of
Burma. The Karen continues to be murdered as the Burmese military and
its allies wage war on this ethnic group. Soon others will face
genocide as well.
The use of rape and murder
on ethnic woman has become standard operating procedure as well as the
induction of children into the military. And this was conducted under
the watchful eyes of the United Nations and the free world. The
criminal regime has taken full advantage of the world’s lackluster
response and operates with impunity while the world continues to do
nothing. Waves of humanity are filling the already burgeoning
populations of these refugee camps in an exodus of epic proportions.
The junta continues to shell positions inside of Thailand’s borders.
Now supplies are running very short and there is no doubt hunger and
disease will soon plague these desperate human beings.
On a positive note Kim Jong
II’s exploits have only solidified a well known fact that North Korea
and Burma are partners in crime. Both leaders need to be arrested like
the common criminals they truly are and the people held hostage within
these respective nations must be liberated. Unwittingly Than Shwe’s
bogus trial has also reveled China’s soft underbelly and how frail
their economy truly is. It also exposed the fact China is a partner in
crime as well since China utilizes slave labor and continues to
silently arrests its citizens then torture and murder them. Also under
the microscope are all the international corporations who’ve invested
in both China and Burma who capitalize on the slave labor and the lack
of environmental concerns. In essence Than and Kim have opened up a can
of worms or Pandora’s Box that will not soon be closed. Now China faces
the wrath of public opinion as consumers are made aware of their
tyranny as well.
On the other side of the
coin the world continues to make crap filled speeches and useless
sanctions against Burma and North Korea, much like they’ve done many
times before. The lackluster and almost cowardly response by the UN and
Ban Ki-moon has already given the junta the green light to increase its
arrests and continued acts of genocide against its own people. The
ultimate insult to injury was the return of Ibrahim Gambari who all but
sold out the Burmese people by endorsing the bogus election 2010
election. His only contribution to Burma was to give Than Shwe the
needed time to find a solution to the Aung Suu Kyi problem. Reports
from sources within Burma have also noted that Gambari was in the
presents of young beautiful starlets and was given a priceless ruby for
his efforts by Than Shwe.
Is the world going to be a
party to Than Shwe’s scheme to legitimize his criminal regime by giving
him the time needed to eliminate Aung San Suu Kyi before the election?
It is sad to note that the worlds impotent response to thugs like Than
Shwe and Kim Jong have opened the door to a new wave of tin horn
dictators who ignore the voices of the people they were once entrusted
to protect. And it’s about the money and ruthless corporations who
glean the natural resources at the expanse of the indigenous
populations. Honduras is a clear example of how the cancer has spread
from Asia to South America. The response to Than Shwe and Kim Jong will
dictate the course of history and the course of humanity. If we
continue to respond with spineless sanctions and allow international
corporations to continue to fund Burma we will fan the flames of
tyranny.

Shareholder Power! Or the almighty Dollar Power!
So, I ask again, is there nothing you or I can do?
Yes, there is.
Find
out if any of the Corporations in which you own shares does business
with Burma. Let me know if you find this connection and, together,
we’ll make sure the world knows about it. That will be start of a
campaign to mobilize shareholders around the world.
If you feel strongly on this subject and support the strategy I’ve suggested and
let’s see how many follow us. The Free Burma movement has adopted an
old Ethiopian proverb which seems very appropriate:
:
“When spiders unite they can tie down a lion!”
We could paraphrase this to our rallying cry:
“When shareholders unite they can depose dictators!”
Having
read this, I hope the answer to the question I posed at the beginning
is “yes”. Please discuss this with your friends, tell them about this,
for dumping all these company shares you may own.
Use your to
help free Burma
Thank you on behalf of Daw Aung
San Suu Kyi, the courageous members of her party, the National League
for Democracy, and the peoples of every ethnic group in Burma.
Global forces shape Orange County’s apparel industry.
Ron
Jon Surfwear at The Block in Orange brims with thousands of pants,
shorts and shirts, including a blue hooded sweatshirt with the logo of
Irvine-based Gotcha stitched across the chest. Along with washing
instructions, the label says: “Made in Myanmar.”
Myanmar has one of the
world’s most questionable human-rights records, but the drive to
produce low-cost clothing has compelled some Orange County apparel
makers to do business there and elsewhere overseas. “It becomes a
numbers game,” said Steve Gould, who has helped arrange overseas
manufacturing for such local firms as Gotcha, Quiksilver and Pacific
Sunwear.
“People
seem happy,” Gotcha surfwear Chairman Marvin Winkler said of the
workers he has seen overseas. “They have their standards, and we have
ours.”
So there it is. “People seem happy, They have their standards, and we have ours.” This
must be the the ultimate in dismissive remarks by an industrialist who
does not care what happens to folk as long as the bottom line of his
business remains healthy.
Here is how it works with any Company that is giving to Junta or making Blood Money in Burma.
See how it is done?
Remember this? Sample of WHERE TO BUY YOUR USA-GAS
WHERE TO BUY YOUR USA-GAS, THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT TO KNOW. READ ON–
I thought it might be interesting for you to know which oil companies
are the best to buy gas from and which major companies import Middle
Eastern oil .
BOY COT These COMPANIES And Watch Gas Prices Fall/ONT>
These companies import Middle Eastern oil :
Shell……………………… 205,742,000 barrels
Chevron/Texaco……… 144,332,000 barrels
Exxon /Mobil…………… 130,082,000 barrels
Marathon/Speedway… 117,740,000 barrels
Amoco……………………….62,231,000 barrels
Citgo…….from South America , from a Dictator who hates Americans
If
you do the math at $30/barrel, these imports amount to over $18
BILLION! (oil is now over $90 a barrel and heading to $100.00/)
Here are some large companies that do not import Middle Eastern oil:
Sunoco…………….0 barrels
Conoco…………….0 barrels
Sinclair……………..0 barrels
BP / Phillips………0 barrels
Hess…………………0 barrels
ARC0………………..0 barrels
All of this information is available from the Department of Energy
and each is required to state where they get their oil and how much
they are importing.
But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of gas buyers. It’s really simple to do.
Now, don’t wimp out at this point…. keep reading and I’ll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!!
I’m sending this note to about thirty people .
If each of you s end it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300)… and
those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000) . and so on,
by the time the message reaches the sixth generation of people,
we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers !!!!!!!
If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted!
If it goes one level further, you guessed it …. THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!
Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people. How long would all that take?
If each of us sends this e-mail out to ten more people within one day, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next eight days !

Ah let’s examine the Dirty List of Companies against other people’s Human Rights, for their rights of greed …. one by one?
KNU Headquarters Overrun: Now What?
After a long
offensive, the Burmese army and its ceasefire militia, the Democratic
Karen Buddhist Army (DKBA), has overrun the Karen National Liberation
Army (KNLA) Brigade 7 headquarters.
The question now is: What’s next?
Karen sources and analysts said the fighting will continue
as the joint Burmese army and DKBA troops focus their attacks toward
the KNLA Brigade 6 area.
Analysts said powerful business interests are supporting the offensive.
The Burmese regime’s goal is to control all of central
Karen State, where the Karen National Union’s KNLA Brigade 7 and 6 are
now located, in order to dominate the business and border trade
activity with Thailand, said one DKBA businessman who asked for
anonymity.
Once dominated, many industries, companies and
infrastructure will be improved and supported by the Myanmar Federation
of Chambers of Commerce and Industry, said the businessman.
Important activities will include logging and mining natural resources, including zinc, he said.
He said the Burmese authorities and DKBA troops will
construct roads to connect between army headquarters in Myaing Gyi Ngu
and border areas.
Once the clashes end, the relationship between the DKBA and
local Thai authorities and businessmen in Mae Sot will expand when
compared to the past, businessmen said.
During the recent fighting, a KNU leader said two DKBA
leaders were spotted in a car traveling with Thai police near the
border where Karen refugees have sought shelter in Tha Song Yang
District in Tak Province.
Analysts also said the situation will be more dangerous for
the KNU and Burmese opposition groups in exile when the border area is
controlled by DKBA troops.
Maj Hla Ngwe, the joint secretary (1) of the KNU, said the
loss of KNLA Brigade 7 headquarters could affect the work of Burmese
opposition organizations based in Mae Sot.
“The opposition movement will be limited. They might not launch campaigns as they did before,” said Hla Ngwe.
Border sources also say more assassinations could be
expected in the border area, where many Burmese and ethnic opposition
groups are based.
In February 2008, the KNU’s late general secretary, Mahn
Sha, was gun down by two DKBA members at his home near the center of
Mae Sot. Many sources claimed the assassination also involved Thai
border police.
Border sources said that DKBA members will have easy access
to Mae Sot once the relationship between the DKBA and Thai border
authorities is established.
A sign of the evolving transition in the power center, said
the businessman, is that DKBA soldiers are now receiving medical care
in Mae Sot. What’s happening is “very obvious,” he said.
The DKBA plans to expand its troops from 6,000 to 9,000 in
preparation for its transformation to become a border guard force under
the Burmese army. The DKBA split from it mother organization, the KNU,
and signed a ceasefire agreement with the Burmese regime in 1995.

Category: Dreams and the Supernatural

Destiny is destiny
and we are moving along at a brisk pace these days as prophecies from
around the world come to pass. Though the physical aspects of global
change abound and are qualified by modern science there is little
regard for the paranormal aspects that are coming as well.
I hate the term
paranormal since it carries such a negative connotation to a vital
aspect of our reality. If a person actually read the books of their
respective dogmas they would discover their works are filled with so
called paranormal events. Interfacing with the spirit world was a
commonly excepted notion back in the day. The Bible and other dogmatic
works have addressed with detail how one should deal with both good and
bad spirits. They also warned them about entities of evil and how to
combat them as well. Whizz-bang ideology, I don’t think so.
Relegated to
superstition and folklore the supernatural has been set aside by modern
man for the most part, to their peril. The spirits who caused such
mayhem in scriptures and Sanskrit have not simply disappeared with the
advent of the Industrial Revolution. The very same forces that’ve
wreaked havoc on the ancients are very much alive and living in at
least two plains of existence including ours. Like it or not we are
still very much intertwined with the spirit world, just blind as hell
to this reality.
You can green up
all you want to but from a scientific stand point of view civilization
as a whole has gone beyond the point of no return environmentally
speaking. The stark reality of carbon emissions points to nature itself
as volcanoes and fissures within the Earth belches millions of tons of
a variety of toxic contaminants daily, far overshadowing the pittance
man has produced. But if corporate interests found a way to make a buck
on volcano emissions there would be no doubt the populations of the
world would be financing the construction of catalytic converters atop
Kilauea and other active volcanoes. That is not to say mankind should
not have polluted like they did by any means. But what it does mean is
that we are destined to experience catastrophes only the survivors of
the last Earth Change did.
Back in Oklahoma
where my people reside awareness of the impending Earth Changes is
common knowledge and we only comment on events in passing. My aunt and
*12 other grandmothers have traveled the globe warning of the impending
times we face. So for the most part we know change is upon us at this
juncture as the teachings from our elders coming to pass. The signs are
everywhere yet the world has their noses buried in foolishness or
conjuring ways to make money and ignoring the obvious. According to
prophecy money and material wealth will be meaningless anyway. Oh well,
to bad, so sad eh.
If people were as
spiritual as they claim they would already know how to survive all the
doomsday scenarios that flood the airwaves these days. No, it does not
require that you live in underground tombs with vast supplies of guns
and food. For that matter that’s just not the place to be since the
Earths crust will be very unstable at the very least. There is no one
place that will not be touched by change but it is up to the individual
to know where to go whence the time comes to leave. This is where their
spirituality comes in since they will be forewarned but in many cases
people will only freak out when the messenger comes a calling. Why,
because they never really paid attention to the words of wisdom written
within the texts of their respective dogmas, plain and simple. If they
did they would know there is more to life on Earth than just the here
and now. They would also know the spirit world is alive and teaming
with spirits of all kinds. And most important of all, they would know
which spirits to trust and which ones to ignore. If Moses thought in
contemporary terms his people would have been long gone with only a
mention in the Dead Sea Scrolls, capice?
As for me, I will
undoubtedly be with my people during the more virulent times ahead.
Most likely we will be having a social or give away. Stewart and the
boys will be playing the drum while our singers sing those ancient
songs we love. I’ll be dancing my butt off whence they call for gourd
dancers. All my relations will be celebrating Mother Earth’s cycle as
prophecy comes to pass. If we don’t survive this time on Earth at least
we took our journey together. But by some chance we do survive it will
be business as usual since I doubt we will notice much change. Only
difference will be the fact the world will be humbled and I guess we
will have to teach the survivors how to make fry bread.

Buffalohair:Kim Jong II and a Hill of Beans

North Koreas
alliance with the criminal dictator of Burma, Than Shwe, has been known
in circles in Burma for years. Only now is it becoming apparent to the
rest of the world. Than Shwe’s alliances go much deeper as people begin
to follow the money as China, Russia and other “secret allies” begin to
surface. By all rights Russia and China should have recused themselves
from voting on UN Sanctions pertaining to Burma because of their
blatant conflict of interest. They are deeply involved financially and
have everything to gain by the criminality perpetrated by Than Shwe’s
criminal regime. The scuttlebutt over North Korea’s acts of stupidity
by both Russia and China is nothing more the lip service and nothing
more.
It was only obvious
North Korea offered Burma the critical distraction they needed. The
A-Bomb/bottle rocket scare was deliberate to mask the Aung San Suu Kyi
disaster that back fired on Than Shwe. It also hid the fact the
military regime has launched a new offensive on the ethnic minorities
throughout the region, the Karen being one of them. His offensive has
also targeted ceasefire groups who opposed the liquidation of their
sovereignties and converting them into nothing more than border guards.
Now Kachin State is being fortified by *Burmese troops in preparation
for war. Ironically Burma and the Kachin were still trying to hammer
out a deal. Apparently the junta already made their decision while
using the negotiations as a smoke screen to build its troop strength in
the region.
Also masked by Kim
Jongs nonsense is the fact the Burmese military has increased its
recruitment drive of **child soldiers throughout the region. And the
United Nations response is to send the corrupt Ibrahim Gambari back to
Burma after his disastrous self serving visitations in the past.
Likened to a vacation Gambari will most likely enjoy the company of
another Burmese starlet to pass the time with while recieving another
priceless ruby, according to sources who’ve witnessed this in the past.
While these
calculated distractions take hold, left in obscurity is the trial of
Daw Aung Suu Kyi and all the criminality that goes with this sham of a
trial. The reality is the UN as well as the well intended nations of
the world have become partners with Than Shwe as they inadvertently
condone the illegal sham election in 2010. The notion that there could
be reconciliation or even a fair election is preposterous to say the
least. The fact Than Shwe’s Union Solidarity and Development
Association (USDA) has already begun the process of buying ***votes
should be an indicator the election will be rigged at the very least.
Arrests of Daw Aung
San Suu Kui and celebrants of her birthday continue under the smoke
screen of Korea’s distract-a-news. Paranoid Than Shwe has further
disrupted his upper echelon by shifting his generals around in a feeble
attempt to have the most loyal next to him when he dies. Ironically his
attempts will be futile since destiny can not be altered and he is on
course to meet his fate for he only alienated some of his staunchest
supporters. Soon Burma will have their “Night of the Long Knives” a
befitting demise of Than Shwe if cancer does not take him out first.
Like they say,
“Three strikes and you’re out”. With three Pagodas mired in
unprecedented loss of life and the collapse of one, Than Shwe secured
his fate. He will be the talk of the town during Taungbyone Nat or
Spirit Festival in August. Taungbyone is a paranormal event where
soothsayers and mediums come together. If only his astrologer would
have told him of the price one pays for petitioning forces of the
spirit world to retain power for payment is due. Adolf Hitler as well
as Pol Pot learned the hard way. Soon Than Shwe will join their ranks
as they enjoy the fruits of their genocide as revenge from their
victims reigns for an eternity.
With all the
discussion over the Iranian election and the voice of the people by the
world over you’d think this would offer focus on Burma. After all it
was a clear majority that voted for Daw Aung Suu Kyi. With the Muslim
clerics fully supporting President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad from the very
beginning it was clear he won. When you consider the fact Iran is a
radical Muslim state followers vote accordingly and Mir Hossein Mousavi
was out of the loop, plain and simple. So I question if this is yet
another distraction of some kind so the world does not have to deal
with Burma and its flagrant acts of criminality. It would appear the
world is full of words and is easily misguided. UN Secretary-General
Ban Ki-moon should take a stand and not cower behind the sofa or is the
UN part of the money laundering operation of Burma as well?
Burma’s junta
continues to rape and murder in their blatant acts of genocide as Daw
Aung Suu Kyi faces trial for winning the hearts of a nation. On the
bright since, international corporations continue to invest in Asia
while divesting in the parent nations they once resided. Soon Than Shwe
will be sporting a Humvee, GM will be selling cars from China and
Daewoo will continue to fill shelves with electronic goodies we don’t
need. After all, it’s all about the money and the corporate bottom
line. By our ambivalence to the cries of the Burmese people we will in
essence seal out fate as we empower financial concerns over humanity.

Cyberattack on 64forSuu.org
Media Release From 64forSuu.org
64forSuu.org,
the website which features messages of support for Burma’s democracy
leader Aung San Suu Kyi on her 64th birthday, faced a cyberattack on
Friday 19th June. The attack is likely to have been by the Burmese
dictatorship, which has previously attacked Burma related websites.
Aung
San Suu Kyi spent her 14th birthday in detention on Friday, and the
website has received more than 15,000 messages of support, including
from U2, George Clooney, Paul McCartney, and British Prime Minister
Gordon Brown. It has generated thousands of media articles.
The
attack happened just after 8pm on Friday 19th June, and the site was
down for 20 minutes. No information was lost and no data compromised.
The attack was a highly sophisticated one, attempting to bring down the
website by an indirect method to avoid the existing security measures
used to protect the site. For security reasons we cannot reveal more
details about the attack.
In recent years, websites run by
Burmese exiles which report on Burma, such as www.irrawaddy.org,
www.mizzima.com, and www.dvb.no, have come under attack. Analysis by
the Burma Campaign UK indicated these attacks originated in Burma. With
the dictatorship’s tight control over the internet, it would be
impossible for these attacks to happen without their authorisation.
“The
dictatorship is now trying to censor at an international level,” said
Johnny Chatterton, Project Manager at 64for.org. “They censor
information in Burma, and arrest those who support Aung San Suu Kyi.
Now they are trying to silence those around the world who support her.
They won’t succeed. The attack was quickly identified and dealt with.”
