 1. The idea how "The Orchard" is going to sound and look was only yours. It
> was inspired by a special journey. Coming back to a place which has been
> very important to you. Please, try to take me there for a while. Tell me
> about it.
>

1.   Silence is heavy, like the ocean, and if a breeze waves by, it
smells of red dirt and dried tobacco.
Hollow trucks, exhausted cotton fields and brittle barns lay retired
above ground, in the very place where they were last alive.
Deeply religious, and generally kind, people scoot about, making the
rounds of daily chores.

You can feel beneath the lush and harmonious garden, that the earth
hides a churning bed of scandal and tragedy. The belly of the swamp is
full of alligators, and they wait until dusk to slide out and
congregate at the water’s edge.

>  11. It happens that when we read a book, watch a movie or listen to music
> which moves us, we often start to wonder who is the author and how much of
> him I can find in his work/composition. Do you think that we, as the
> listeners for example, have any right to ask about anything what comes from
> a private sphere of an artist (his intimate feelings, emotions etc.)?
>
11. There’s beauty in leaving explanations to rest in mystery and privacy.

>  9. You worked on your songs – fruits of the orchard – in a kind of
> unpopular way. I read you first checked how they sound live and after that
> you went to the studio to record them. What made you choose such a way?
>
9. Craig Street had the idea to take the songs to a small club.
Working through the material live made it more real. The songs
instantly become stories, because I had to share them even as I was
discovering them.

>  13. What did you recently learn from yourself?

13. I am more than my story. I can use my soul to reach into other
worlds and ideas, and I can come back home when I need it.

RE: Barack Obama's Campaign for Presidency

It is my deep wish to see
Senator Obama win the democratic nomination and use
the position to put money and support into the lives of the people who are responsible for the most tangible and visible parts of the work of making this country better: teachers, scientists, engineers, activists, etc.

If he can inspire and mobilize them around the ideals of educational, social, and economic progress, as his campaign suggests, the benefits of his presidency will reach far into America's future.

"God in the Stew" Rumi, Songs of Soul-Meeting translated by Coleman Barks

Is there a human mouth that doesn't
give out soul-sound? Is there love,

a drawing-together of any kind, that
isn't sacred? Every natural dog

sniffs God in the stew. The lion's
paw trembles like a rose petal.

He senses the ultimate spear coming.
In the shepherd's majesty wolves

and lambs tease each other. Look
inside your mind. Do you hear

the crowd gathering? Help coming,
every second. Still you cover

your eyes with mud. Watch the horned
owl. Wash your face. Anyone who

steps into an orchard walks inside
the orchard keeper. Millions of

love-tents bloom on the plain. A
star in your chest says, None

of this is outside you. Close your
lips and let the maker of mouths

talk, the one who says things.
