Loretta at Relay 2007

Please help by donating an item, bidding on an item or making a donation.

To visit Loretta's Relay donation page, click here.

AUCTION RULES:

DONORS:

Please do not donate an item unless you have the item and intend on shipping it. Delivery confirmation is recommended when shipping your item(s).

To donate an item please submit a photo, description of the item and minimum bid requirements to Loretta (Loretta.haberman@yahoo.com) no later than Monday, May 11th at 8:00pm EST.

BIDDERS:

Bids will be accepted from Tuesday, May 12th, 8am EST – Friday, May 15th at 11pm EST. Bids can be placed by e-mailing your name, e-mail, amount you are bidding and the item number and item name to loretta.haberman@yahoo.com  You may also wish to include a phone number.

Bids will be considered in the order received so if there are 2 high bids of the same amount the one received first will be considered the current high bid.

The auction page will be updated throughout the duration of the auction to reflect the current high bid. Updates will occur more frequently on Friday, May 15th.

If you are the winning bidder and we are unable to contact you because of your security settings or other issues, you will forfeit your winning bid and the next highest bidder will be awarded the item and notified that they have won. We will make 3 attempts occurring not more than 7 days after the auction has ended to notify you of your winning bid. After that time your winning bid will be forfeited and the item offered to the next highest bidder.

A minimum bid has been placed on auction items to ensure a sufficient donation is received in exchange for the item and the shipping. When placing your bid please remember your bid is a donation and give generously. Also remember that the donor is donating the items, the cost of shipping and their time so again, please give generously.

WINNING BIDS:

Bidding will close at 11pm EST on Friday, May 15th. Loretta will confirm the winning bids and the highest bidder will be notified.

It's been 31 days since I did anything resembling a workout. I think it's safe to say I've lost my mojo. I fell off the healthy wagon and I think it's still on top of me.

I'm not writing to sit here and drum up excuses.

I'm also not here to profess how this is the first day of the rest of my life.

I'm not entirely why I am here to honest with you.

I think on some level I'm trying to figure out what is wrong with me but on another level I think everything is fine.

3 weeks ago I was sitting at my desk when my left foot felt hot. Since I have severe lymphedema in that leg and wear a support stocking I immediately checked my foot, removing shoe, sock and stocking, to discover it was cool as a cucumber. No pitting. No heat. No rash.

I put my sock back on and tried to ignore it but then the heat turned into a numbness. The sensation you have right before your foot falls asleep or wakes up. No pins and needles, just numb. And it wasn't even my whole foot, just part of it.

The numbness traveled into my leg. A few times into my hip and by the time it hit my left arm I was anxious to say the least.

A status update on Facebook found friends calling my cell and posting comments urging me to seek medical help and my supervisor even intervened. I did end up going to urgent care that evening where after a ridiculous wait they informed me that if I had a blood clot I'd need to go to the ER. I paid the $50 co-pay and waited there to hear the doctor tell me to follow up with my doctor in the morning.

The next day I called the doc but he was out for the week. I decided to wait and see him the following week when he was back in the office. I figured I'd have a long history with the numbness and if anything changed dramatically there was always the ER. That and doc knows my history so no sense telling it all to one of the other folks in the practice.

A week flew by and when I saw the doc the numbness was only in my arm and I'd had one numb-free day. He ran a series of neurological tests and ordered a series of bloodwork (including a check for lime disease, thyroid issues and inflamation) as well as a brain MRI.

Long story short it's 2 weeks later and I'm waiting on the bloodwork results (assuming they're normal since they call if there's an issue and mail you the results if they are normal) and I finally had the brain scan last Friday. I am hoping my phone rings tomorrow.

I'm counting my blessings as the numbness has been all but a memory since mid-day Sunday.

What this all has to do with Fat Tuesday.... perhaps a rationalization of why I haven't managed to workout for at least the past 3 weeks. Maybe me trying to tell myself that I should workout since it can help regulate hormones, especially those that rise during times of stress.

Or maybe I'm just using Tuesday as a reason to bring you all up to speed, pass the time until I get my test results and confess to having a stash of Cadbury Creme Eggs.

Whatever the reason all I know is it's Tuesday. I'm not too fat (7.5 pounds from my goal) and I've been blessed with another day so life is good.

In other news I'm still single, need a haircut, work way too much, need more items for my auction to benefit the American Cancer Society (May 12th - 15th) and am enjoying "Water For Elephants".

What's new with you?

So it's been 17 days since I blogged and only 1 person noticed... ok correction, only 1 person commented on noticing.

I realize I haven't been the most active person around these parts. Heck, I haven't even logged into these parts in over a week. I am on Facebook though.
The reasons are many including the fact that there are just a lot more of my friends, family and even colleagues over there. Also, it's much easier to use Facebook on my cell phone than MySpace and I like the format better over there. I feel like I'm not just randomly throwing out my thoughts but more like I am interacting with folks who want to know what's new in my world and vice versa. Anyway, feel free to look me up over there.

Another reason for my lack of time over here has been work. I just had my first Relay For Life event of the year this past Friday. The Relay For Life of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute was great! 95 teams and over 1400 participants were on hand and we've raised to date $80,000 in the fight against cancer. As if this event wasn't enough to keep me hopping try adding recruiting and preparations for 3 additional events which are taking place the first 3 Friday's in June. They really need a new word for busy.

I don't mind working and I know the busy-ness is making a difference in the fight against cancer but I do wish I had just a few more minutes each day. If I did have a few more minutes I'd use them to....

make a difference in the fight against cancer! (did you expect me to say something different?)

I'm currently trying to pull together an auction. I've hosted one the past 2 Octobers for breast cancer and last May for Relay For Life (for all cancers). I have a few items collected and a date lined up (Friday, May 15th) but I need to get cracking if this is actually going to happen. Here's my current auction to do list:

- Collect additional auction items. I need to ask friends and family to pitch in an item or two (and the cost of shipping)

- Design auction web page (I'll be hosting it on a site where anyone can see and bid since my friends are on MS and FB)

- Advertise!

So, there's a glimpse of what I've been up to. If you have ideas for the auction or what to help (promote, donate an item or bid) let me know.

I'm not making any promises but I am hoping to be around these parts a bit more.

Anything new and exciting in your world?

So I pretty much feel off the wagon when I got sick a few weeks back and was just about climbing back on when my birthday rolled around. Work is cranked to the max and there are not enough hours in the day to get everything done so exercise is nearly a distant memory (unless you count the major spring cleaning we did at the office last week).

I'm holding steady at 136 which is down 12 from where I started but a few pounds up from the low I had reach at the end of February. It's not just a lack of exercise that's stalled my progress. I let a few yummy treats make thier way into my life and I've been eatting them up, one because they're here, and two because I'm a stress eater. Stress eatting stresses me out and then, you guessed it, I eat! I find myself saying to myself: "Self, you can't possibly be hungry you just ate" as I chomp on yet another snack.

I'm trying to think of a clever plan to deal with this. Taking a walk when I'm stressed is not an option. That would stress me out more as I think about the fact that I am walking and not working. I have thought about getting healthier snacks and saying "self, this is what you can eat" and I actually tried this a time or two but low and behold I eat the healthy and they say to myself "Well, you ate the healthy you can have a little of something less healthy and perjhaps you won't eat as much because you are already partly full of something healthy.".... Yeah, not working so well.

So I'm off the wagon, a teeny weeny bit stressed and I jusrt publically admitted I talk to myself. Feel free to run away now. Me, I'm going to throw down a few thankfuls because even though I've been stressed the one thing I find myself doing more than ever is being grateful. There are many times in a day where I will say to myself "I am so thankful for ________". I'm hoping to make it back Thursday for Thankful Thursday but today seems as good as Thursday to be thankful so here goes:

I am thankful for:

- My cats. It's a wonder they don't disown me I am away from home so much. For those of you following Yin he went to the vet last week and had some bloodwork. The vet can't feel his spleen as large as he did last time so we'll discuss the bloodwork on his next visit and go from there. We may x-ray or sample his bone marrow to try and get a better idea of what's going on.

- My job. Stressy or not I have one and when all is said and done I wouldn't trade the chance I have to make a difference every day in the fight against cancer.

- My other job. Even when it seems more hassle than help at this busy time of year for me I do enjoy decorating cakes (and being able to pay my bills).

- That spring has sprung. We were flirting with 70 degrees here on Saturday. The birds are singing this morning and the last of the huge snow mounds are nearly gone. The months of warm weather, BBQ's, and lounging on the deck stretch out ahead of me and make the long days at work seem surmountable.

- That my sister is still here. Her husband lost his job last week and they may ahve to move (again) for him to find work but today they are still here and God willing theyw ill be able to stay.

- For smiley 4 month olds. My little niece is the perfect age. She sleeps, eats and smiles all the time. Can she stay this way forever?

- For a good book. I am part of the Real Simple No Obligation Book Club and am enjoying this month's selection. The club is hooking me up with books I'd never choose for myself. Expanding my mind is a good thing.

- For space and order. We did some major spring cleaning last week at the office and now most of my stuff is in one space where it can stay all the time. No more moving and moving and moving and best of all I have now reclaimed part of my cubicle

There's so much more to be thankful for but alas work is calling. I hope everyone is well. Please drop a line and let me know what's new in your world.

Hey guys. I realize that as I type this it is nearly Friday and by the time most of you read it it will be Friday.

I've officially crossed over into the way-too-darn-busy part of the year. This time usually falls between March and July when the combined workload of part-time job and more than full-time job demands more work from me than there are hours in the day. In the next 30 days alone I will oversee a $115,000 event with over 1500 people atttending, host kickoffs for 2 additional Relays and attend over 2 dozen committee meetings. I'm tired just reading that.

And I know y'all are just as busy as me with the responsibilities in your own lives. I'm just saying that I'm busy and I won't be caught up until July.... and I'm not being dramatic. Cake season is just ramping up and will run through July and I need to pull in $318,000 in income for ACS by July. There needs to be a new word for busy!

Now about this weight wagon......

I got pushed off about 2 weeks ago when I came down with a very bad sinus infection. The thing had me down for the count for 3 full days and took a full week before I felt close to normal. In that time I stopped all manner of exercise. I was doing ok with food until I started to feel better and then discovered it was my birthday. What started out as one or two meals not counting has turned into almost a week filled with Cadbury creme eggs and a nearly complete lack of anything resembling a vegetable. I've gained 4 pounds in the past 11 days.

So, that's what's going on in my neck of the woods. I miraculously have this Saturday off so I hope to get at least a half step toward caught up on a number of things. How is everyone else out there doing?

It's Wednesday, time for another round of WTF so read on and feel free to bitch, gripe, moan and complain!

WTF to me being sick in bed when we had a weekend where temps flirted with 50.

WTF to my on-call (urgent care) co-pay going from $15 last year to $50 this year! That's enough to make one sick!

WTF to someone contacting me on Facebook asking about Relay but really wanting me to help him with his "event" but said person won't come out with it and say what exactly his event is or how I can help. I don't have time for this bologna. Be direct!

WTF can't I seem to program my VCR properly? Last week I ended up recording 2 hours of OTB instead of The Biggest Loser. This week I forgot to spring the VCR ahead and missed an entire hour of the show. Doht!

WTF again to this head cold. I was barely afloat at work before getting sick and now I'm behind and most likely won't be anywhere near caught up until July (and no, I'm not just being dramatic here)

I know there's more but my head hurts. I hope everyone has a great day!
March 10, 2009 - Tuesday
Starting Weight: 148 pounds
Weight on 3/8/09: 133.5 pounds
Pounds lost in past week: 2
Total Pounds Lost: 14.5 (in 9 weeks)
Target Weight: 128 pounds
Pounds until goal: 5.5

** please note data is for week of 3/1 – 3/7.

Workouts – I was on my game this week! I started with an hour and 15 minutes using the Wii and Wii fit at my sisters on Sunday and worked out every day of the week except Saturday when a cold/sinus infection beat me down. Workouts were varied and included working with my hand weights, walking on the treadmill and The Firm Ultimate Fat Burning Workout

Total workouts: 6 totaling 4 hours and 40 minutes

Eating – Still not counting calories or really planning my meals too closely. I went to work Wednesday knowing I would be there through lunch and dinner yet failed to pack food for both. I ended up crunching some nuts and a Fiber One bar I had stashed in my desk for dinner. I know I need to do better with planning meals, having a shopping list and sticking with a plan but things are busy with work and so my eating plan as of late is to eat when I am hungry and choose the healthiest option available at the time.

New recipe of week: I cooked salmon at home for dinner on Thursday. I just baked it in the oven topped with oregano and thyme. I paired it with sweet potatoes which I had cut into cubes (left the skin on), boiled until they were soft and then baked for 45 minutes with cinnamon and olive oil on top (be sure to spray the pan with non-stick spray!)

How I Feel: As of the moment I type this I feel pretty bad. I started getting sick last Friday with a head cold/sinus infection. I went to the doctors on Saturday and he started me on antibiotics but the past 3 days have been pretty miserable. I’m feeling a little bit better as I write this but am seeing the days tick away without a workout on the books.

Looking Forward: Active For Life started last Monday. I was off to a great start fulfilling 137% of my workout goal (150 minutes per week) for the first week but my efforts have been derailed by this head cold. We have a thing going where the person who logs the most minutes working out each week will get to keep a Mr. Potato Head doll for the following week. Sad to report my workouts did not even touch the winner who logged 570 minutes of exercise in one week :-/

Even though I am currently being beat down by a head cold/sinus infection I am looking forward to feeling well enough to work out again. However, my birthday is coming up quick so I think some cake may be making its’ way to my plate in the next week or so!

So, how did everyone else do last week?

Each Thursday, at some point in the day (depending on how crazy my day is)...I will do my best to post a blog that will include 10 THINGS THAT I AM THANKFUL FOR from that week! *Sometimes I may have to post it late Wednesday night*. Thoughts may be serious, sarcastic, silly, heart-warming, stupid, it will vary...depending on my mood!

I will then ask that each one of you leave me a comment, stating something that YOU ARE THANKFUL FOR from that week...it can be ANYTHING! Something little, something BIG, something funny, something witty, something serious - Whatever you like!

It's SIMPLE...and hopefully, it will also be ENGAGING, FUN, A CHANCE TO LEARN MORE ABOUT EACH OTHER, REWARDING, AND UPLIFTING!

1) That it is March. Warmer weather seems so much closer when it is March. Daylight savings starts this Sunday and oh yeah, my birthdya is right around the corner!

2) For the incredible, edible egg.

3) For the boundless energy and enthusiasm of youth. (No, I'm not talking about me rather my Relay volunteers from RPI. They're amazing!)

4) That Yin continues to do well. All systems are go and he's actually taken to sleeping on my head each night.

5) For the dedication and determination to pursue my goals.

6) For my health

7) For crazy Yang who always wants to sit in my lap when I am at the computer

8) For new work clothes

9) For running water and water heaters

10) For hope, optimism and a positive attitude!

Thank you for being thankful with me!
March 4, 2009 - Wednesday
Half way through another week and time for a round of WTF. Here are some of the moments from the past 7 days that had me shaking my head adn saying WTF?

WTF to the smoke from snuffing out a candle setting off the smoke alarm in my apartment.

WTF to finding the perfect pair of pants but there only being 1 pair left.

WTF to pants that need hems

WTF to mall parking and traffic patterns. I simply want to get to the stores across the avenue but have to drive a half mile out of my way to get there since there is no straight way to cross the avenue

WTF to the man in the kiosk in the center of the mall picking his nose. Hello? Everyone can see you there in your glass cage.

WTF to the deep freeze we're experiencing here in March. Today's high is 25. I am ready for spring already!

I am sure there were other moments but those are all I can think of right now. What are some of your recent WTF moments?
