After nearly a year open the madratz have decided to close it's doors.
after looking into our financial, personal and social situations we found it just isn't feasible for us to remain open.
it takes too much time and money which we lack in both (for the small amount of people involved) to create financial stability and to plan and organize all the events, workshops and fundraisers needed to keep it going.
we wish it didn't have to end, and maybe it doesn't, we're taking a while off and seeing what time and resources we have at our disposal and to regroup and analyze what we did right, what we did wrong, what we could have done better and what we need and where and what is needed in and around our community.
laterz,
the madratz collective
PS > expect a longer more elaborate version of this soon. as of now this is the quick and dirty.

so all the events of the week will be cancelled so no tuesday movie night or the bike in movie
instead the madratz will be working diligently on cleaning, re-arranging and getting some things done that we have neglected or just haven't had time to complete.
we request your help we'd need volunteers to each and every day we will have specific tasks that we are looking to complete like cataloguing and arranging our library, putting up bookshelves, finishing our workshop area and cleaning out all the stuff we don't need or just don't use.
if you'd want to help out drop on by the infoshop any night monday through sunday of the week of september 24-30 and we'll be there working.
as soon as the schedule is made up as to what days we're working on what projects it'll be posted on myspace and our website.
thanx, the madratz

though we have come a long way since the conception of the MadRatz! infoshop, this last year has been hard on us. we have managed to overcome many challenges and learn from our mistakes, allowing us to grow and evolve. with our one year anniversary quickly approaching, also comes the question, "where do we go from here?" In order for us to continue this project and continue to grow, we have to face some grim realities: we don't have enough funding and we also lack (wo)man-power. if we are to keep our doors open we need a few things from the community around us.
first and foremost we need money. if each and every one of our friends on myspace donated ONLY $10 we'd be able to pay rent for 6 months. ALL IT TAKES IS TEN DOLLARS, AND YOU HELP KEEP THIS COMMUNITY RESOURCE ALIVE and we'll love ya lots!
If our heartfelt gratitude isn't enough for you, you could join the rat pack for $25 (6 months) - $45 (1 year). joining the rat pack gives you a 10% discount, it also allows for you to check out books from our library and will get you discount rates on workshops and events, and of course, our heartfelt gratitude too.
if you want to be super keen you could become a sustainer and donate money each and every month in what ever increment you would like starting at $10.. with guaranteed donations coming in monthly, this gives us more time to plan events and fun stuff and less time struggling to make ends meet. as a sustainer we will also include a rat pack membership and of course our heartfelt gratitude.
Second we need people power. with all the changes in the core collective's work schedules we're having a hard time staffing the store. we need people to help fill out shifts and to help with staffing and planning events If you'd like to volunteer please email us at atlantainfoshop@gmail.com or leave a message on our website in our forum under the volunteers section.
Third we need your input. Stay open? close? is there something we need to change? what kind of events do you want to see? event ideas? want to hold one? any other ideas?
For donations drop by the shop during our regular hours or send check, money order or well concealed cash to: Madrats infoshop 840 dekalb ave suite c atlanta ga 30307 make checks payable to madratz ltd.
we have paypal too i just don't have the paypal information it will be coming soon.

From: Friends of Capital Terminus CollectiveDate: Sep 4, 2007 9:27 PM comrades, On Friday, August 7th at 7:00 pm at the MadRatz! Infoshop in Atlanta, author Edward Krebs will be presenting an overview of how Chinese intellectuals came to be attracted to anarchism and what it meant to the first believers and to later generations. There is no charge and open to the public and all interested folk are welcome to attend. The MadRatz! Infoshop is located at 840 Dekalb Ave Suite C Atlanta Ga 30307 (behind the neon sign shop) love and soli, the ctc KREBS, Edward S. Shifu, Soul of Chinese Anarchism Rowman & Littlefield, 1998 ISBN : 0847690148 Hardcover "The most comprehensive study of Shifu available, this valuable work explores the life and political milieu of a central figure in Republican China. Born in 1884, Shifu was brought down in 1915 by overwork, poverty, and tuberculosis. Yet during that short span, he became the most influential anarchist of his time. Drawing on a wealth of primary source material, Krebs provides an intellectual biography of this committed revolutionary and analyzes the importance of Shifu's thought during the New Culture-May Fourth years as his followers fought for influence with the Marxists and later over the issue of alliance with the Nationalists. Placing Shifu's life within the dynamic intellectual and political currents of the time, the author describes Shifu's early work as an assassin within the anti-Qing movement. Examining the influence on Shifu of Confucianism and Buddhism, Krebs highlights reform Buddhism's close relationship with revolutionary activism. Most significantly, Shifu's unflagging work to propagate anarchism during the early years of the Republic and his interactions with other socialists reveal a hitherto unknown level of activity among socialist revolutionaries. This important book thus offers fresh insights not only into the anarchist movement itself, but into the broader history of Chinese socialism as well". Edward S. Krebs is an independent scholar and translator based in Georgia.
