It's real tough making a left-hand turn onto southbound Speedway Boulevard (SW 137TH Avenue) from westbound Biscayne Drive (SW 288TH Street). The protected left-hand turn (with the green arrow) lasts less than 10 seconds so that only three vehicles can safely make the protected turn - as long as they are all paying attention and actually GO when they are supposed to. The traffic light signalization was configured back in the mid-1990s when the intersection was low-usage, Speedway Boulevard was known as Tallahassee Road (and was an old dusty two-lane rural road), and farmland surrounded it. Now it's a major highly-travelled thoroughfare travelled by thousands of motorists in all different directions daily. The design of the intersection itself is severely flawed. They need to blow it up and pretty much start all over with it.This afternoon it was the same old story.Vehicle 1 - Hesitated a few seconds before making the protected left-hand turn (wasn't paying attention).Vehicle 2 - No problem - followed closely behind the hesitater.Vehicle 3 - Just sat there. The driver was too busy talking on his or her cell phone. We've lost the protected green arrow.Vehicle 4 - That was me. Miraculously the vehicle in front of me as well as myself were actually able to make it through the congested intersection after the heavy oncoming eastbound traffic had passed through, but we barely did so before the light turned red again. It's just another typical day of driving in and around Homestead Florida U.S.A. - the fastest-growing city in the entire nation !

Exactly 20 years ago TODAY - Monday November 30TH 1987 - I departed from my original hometown of the Washington D.C. area for a new and mysterious place that I had never previously been to before in my entire life.
I was headed southbound by air down the Atlantic coastline to Miami Florida. I arrived at MIA late that night, and then I eventually got on some type of military shuttle bus that would take me the rest of the way to my ultimate destination - Homestead Air Force Base.
I got in to the base a couple of hours after Midnight on the next morning, and I checked in to the Billeting facilities on-base. Technically December 01ST is my anniversary date here in Homestead, but since I actually arrived at MIA late at night on the 30TH of November I've always considered this to be my anniversary date.
I was a young 20-year-old Active Duty Air Force Airman First Class when I first arrived at the base, and now I'm a not-so-young 40-year-old Department Of Defense General Schedule Civilian with 20 years of experience. Give me another 20 years (or probably less), and I should be retired from civil service and living the good life !

As a follow-up to the CNN / You Tube Republican Debate that aired on CNN last night (which I watched earlier tonight on tape) Larry King has another one of his 'not a scientific poll' 'Quick Votes' up on his web page:Who do you want to be the Republican Presidential nominee ?(Here are the TOP 5 responses.) 30% - Rudy Giuliani18% - Mike Huckabee15% - Fred Thompson14% - Mitt Romney11% - Ron Paul(I voted for 1 of the above.)

I understand that you (other drivers in general) are going to run stop signs as if they don't really say 'STOP' but rather 'KEEP GOING IF YOU'RE TURNING RIGHT', and I understand that you (other drivers in general) are going to turn right on a red light without even stopping (or even slowing down at times).
But when you do so, and you see a single car (such as mine - with no other vehicle in sight behind me) headed your way on the main road with no stop sign and a green light then wouldn't it be so very courteous of you of waiting a couple of seconds until I pass by before you make your unlawful move ?
It would save me from drastically slowing down or slamming on my brakes to avoid crashing in to you due to your illegal road maneuver. I'd like to keep my perfect accident-free driving record (since 1984) intact.
This is particularly a problem for those of you who live in a certain neighbourhood here in Homestead that has a lot of water and a lot of stone scattered throughout. You live in a real nice neighbourhood. Why are you all in such a hurry to speed out of it onto Speedway Boulevard and Campbell Drive ?
This edition of 'The Road Rage Files' was brought to you in part by 'Citizens For A More Peaceful Driving Experience In Homestead'. Join our movement today. Inquire within.

TODAY I managed to sneak out of the office at my normal Lunch hour, and I made it all the way to the Peking House aqui en Homestead. As you know it's Homestead's finest place for Chinese Food, Fun, Fights (from the kitchen), Music, and Broken English. It's the type of place where as soon as I open the front door they pretty much acknowledge my presence, tell me 'Anywhere' (pointing to the entire restaurant - anywhere that I wish to sit), and watch as I immediately proceed to fill-up my plate at the all-you-can-eat buffet (or as I like to say it - 'boo-fay'). This week's 'Fortune Cookie Message Of The Week' for all of you bonafide club members worldwide is actually a repeat. You see apparently the Writer's Guild Of America strike has actually affected fortune cookie messages. I got this one back on Monday July 30TH 2007 up the road at China Garden in beautiful Naranja Lakes:'If it seems the fates are against you today, they probably are.'There are no fates against me today. I woke up at precisely 5 AM, and I had a peaceful day at work. Of course there are still another 6½ hours to go before this day ends for me.

I've recently heard rumours of a Best Buy under construction in Florida City, and now I'm pretty confident that those rumours can in fact be confirmed as true.Ground breaking is well under way between U.S. 1 and Krome Avenue at SW 336TH Street (just north of the new Largo Honda) for a 100,000 square foot shopping center that will include Best Buy (anchor), Bank Of America (outparcel), and Longhorn Steak House (outparcel).
Sometime in 2008 we will no longer have to drive up to Cutler Bay to browse and purchase state-of-the-art electronics, or way up to far West Kendall to eat a delicious steak and potatoes meal. We will be able to do it right here in our own neighbourhood !

1. This morning I woke up, I looked at my alarm clock, and it read "6:06". That may seem early to you, but at "6:06" I'm supposed to be sitting at my desk at work. Oops. I ended up getting to my office just before 7 AM, and I was still the 1ST person in my office to arrive for duty and the 3RD or 4TH person in my entire building to arrive. Tomorrow morning I actually plan to wake up when my alarm clock tells me to wake up (at 5 AM) via its annoying beep-beep-beep-beep-beep …
2. Stouffer's makes wonderful frozen 'classic meals'. I especially adore their Veal Parmigiana - 'breaded veal patty topped with marinara sauce and mozzarella cheese with spaghetti'. It's what's for dinner. In fact it's what I was eating as I typed the first 'Grab Bag O' Thought' above.
3. It's politically correct to state that you support our military troops serving and fighting for us on our behalf in a foreign country. Most Americans publicly state it, but I don't think that they really mean it. I mean it when I state that I support our troops - and their mission - and their Commander-In-Chief.
4. I'm nowhere near recovering from my month-full of vacations. I'm leaving behind abundant work to do at work as well as at home every time I leave one to go to the other.
5. I was supposed to get a Woody's style haircut today during the Lunch hour. It didn't happen. I was too busy at work. My mop top will just have to wait until tomorrow - or the next day - or the day after that.
6. My skin adores the near-constant high humidity of South Florida. By the time I had left cold and dry Dallas Texas my hands were rough, dry, chapped, wrinkled, red, and practically bleeding. They are now soft and tan again. Thank You Suave Cocoa Butter With Shea Moisturizer !
7. The best things in my bathroom are green - Irish Spring, Right Guard, Plax, and Act.
8. I have an appointment at the hot new Starbucks in Florida City this Saturday morning. I need to check out the joint for myself - and study the menu for about 15 minutes. I'm sure that there's something that's even tastier than their White Chocolate Mocha.
9. iNeed iPod. My iPod Shuffle is crammed solid with 229 hits on it. I'm buying an iPod Classic. My brother and his wife got me an Apple gift card for Christmas for this very worthy cause. They also got me a separate gift card to purchase more iTunes. iAppreciate !
10. I actually hope that the Writer's Guild Of America strike lingers on for awhile. It will give me time to catch-up on several hundred hours of television shows that I've recorded on tape in 2007 (and 2006) but haven't seen yet.

I'm giving a free plug to a Chinese Restaurant just up the road in Cutler Bay Florida because of its hilarious name alone that instantly made me crack-up severely.Mixed in with my bundle of junk mail today was a full-colour full-page advertisement for the (get ready for this one) 'Takee Outee' restaurant. I am not making this up !Click on this hyperlink for actual proof:takeeouteerestaurant.com

1. The Fortune Cookie Message Of The Week Club - I am absolutely determined to eat Lunch this week at either Panda Express, Peking House, or China Garden. It's been a long 6 weeks since I last made a LIVE lunchtime appearance at one of these fine dining establishments, and club members worldwide are getting restless !2. Tuesday Night Grab Bag O' Thoughts - I really have no clue what 10 miscellaneous items I plan to blog about until I actually sit down at my computer on Tuesday night to do so. It's that spontaneous !3. The Road Rage Files - Chapter 14 - You know it's going to happen. Someone is going to annoy me so much that I'll just have to rant and rave about it in a multi-paragraph blog entry. After all I live in Homestead Florida, and bad drivers surround me at all times !Don't forget to update your links to the all-new greener blog site:http://majorhitwaves.wordpress.com

1. It was a great feeling when I walked through the front doors of the movie theatre into the main lobby shortly after 7:45 AM for the first time in 5 weeks. The transformation of the movie theatre's main lobby into Life Pointe Church's main lobby is always miraculous - not because it's impossible to do, but because it's the ultimate product of our setup and hospitality teams serving The Lord Almighty in unison every Sunday morning.2. Terry and Venus made me extremely hungry this morning because they constantly talked about delicious foods from around the world with me on an empty stomach at the time. I informed and then reminded them several times throughout the discussions that my calendar for the remainder of 2007 is wide open for food and fellowship.3. Jonathan & Lilian Mends' likeus.tv life story on video was incredible. It made me joyful, and it also made my eyes water. I forgot to bring a napkin into the service with me. I can't wait to see it again once it's posted online. I've loved them ever since I met them during my early days at Life Pointe. They welcomed me to the Life Pointe family with open arms back then. They are truly one of the most inspirational couples I have ever met in my entire life.4. Pastor Paul delivered a superb teaching on effectively 'passing it on' to the next generation. If we want them to be true believers 'likeus' then we need to have absolute faith in God so that they too can have faith in God. Galatians 3:6-7 (NLT) states that 'In the same way, "Abraham believed God, so God declared him righteous because of his faith." The real children of Abraham, then, are all those who put their faith in God.' Galatians 3:9 continues 'And so it is: All who put their faith in Christ share the same blessing Abraham received because of his faith.'5. Following the 10:30 service I finally got to meet Mr. Blake Matthew Johnson for the first time on his 5-week birthday. He was born on the last Sunday that I attended service at Life Pointe before I went on a month-full of vacations. He's in great hands with Travis and Kelly 'passing it on' to him. He'll probably be running Life Pointe Church in about 33 years with his sisters.

I finally found a show on Ion Television that I enjoyed watching. It's NFL Game Of The Week, and it's presented by NFL Films and its President Steve Sabol. It's on Saturday nights from 6 PM to 7 PM (Eastern), and this week it featured the San Diego Chargers / Jacksonville Jaguars game during the first half of the show, and the Washington Redskins / Dallas Cowboys game (that I attended) during the second half.It was cool to see the game in person last Sunday afternoon at Texas Stadium, and it was also cool to see how NFL Films encapsulated the highlights of the game on film in its traditional award-winning way.

I got a call from them this afternoon, and the joke is on them. I don't answer my telephone to anyone whose name doesn't clearly display on my Caller-ID, and even if the name does display but it is unknown to me then I don't answer it then either. I answer my telephone to friends - not salespeople. I watch commercials on television. I don't need them on my telephone.Apparently I'm not alone. Check out this long list of complaints regarding calls from this specific telephone number.

There's a popular show on the TV Guide Network - "Look-A-Like" - that takes a young lady who sort of resembles a celebrity (usually a pop singer), and gives her a makeover to look even more like that celebrity. These girls are suddenly the likes of Christina Aguilera, Beyonce, Mary J. Blige, Kelly Clarkson, Celine Dion, Hilary Duff, Alicia Keys, Avril Lavigne, Lindsay Lohan, Madonna, Reba McEntire, Mandy Moore, Alanis Morissette, Shakira, Ashlee Simpson, Britney Spears, and Gwen Stefani. These girls - and this show - are just a travesty. They are both seriously misguided. When Our Lord Almighty created us in His own image He did not intend us to look and act like anyone else. He intended each of us to be our own unique self - not to imitate someone else - particularly some superficial role model. There is only one real role model to look up to and love - and that is God himself.

I'm back at home in Homestead, and my month-full of vacations are now officially done and over with. Last Friday (November 16TH) I was preparing to go on vacation to Dallas Texas. The Friday before that (November 09TH) I was at sea on the Carnival Freedom a couple hundred miles or so north of the easternmost Caribbean Islands just south of the 26° north latitude line. The Friday before that (November 02ND) I was at sea on the Carnival Freedom a few hundred miles or so northwest of the African coastline of Morocco en route to Funchal Madeira. The Friday before that (October 26TH) I was preparing for my European / Mediterranean / Transatlantic voyage. It's been quite the incredible month for travel (I figure close to 13,000 miles of it), and now it's all over with. For the first time in about a year I have no upcoming vacations planned, and it actually feels good. It's time to relax and enjoy the status quo here in Homestead for awhile. Life is great here in Homestead. I couldn't live anywhere else in my life right now. This has been my home for almost exactly 20 years (next Saturday is my anniversary). My American Airlines flight from DFW to FLL was uneventful. We boarded the plane exactly on-time, we pulled away from the departure gate exactly on-time, we took-off into the air exactly on-time, and we arrived at the arrival gate a few minutes early. I collected my suitcase, I took the shuttle to my car, and I drove home. I got home just before 6 PM EST. Nothing noteworthy to report inflight or on the 61-mile way home from the airport. In just about 90 minutes I'll be sleeping in my own bed for only the 7TH time in 28 nights. I'm looking forward to it.I'll catch you all tomorrow when we begin the simulcast between this MySpace blog and my hot new Wordpress blog. Be there from the start !
