December 6, 2009 - Sunday
 |
............................
Hello Dolls!
.. ..
How is everyone doing this fabulous funday Sunday?! I am
doing great! I decided to take today off from working on location as an artist
and hair stylist, and really focus on the things I need to finish up. I have a
couple of projects due on the 10th and the 17th of
December of this year that I need to complete, of course among other things I
need to do! It’s been taking me a while because I have been pondering what
topics I should address as the new “resident beauty expert” for
CelebrityCatwalk.com!!! :D The organization is revamping their site starting in
January 2010 so check back then for my beauty advice! BTW, I love that title! I
am so excited to have an opportunity to work with an amazing organization that
truly cares for the well being of animals. I have an amazing boss and her name
is Jennifer. She’s one of the most inspirational, caring, smart, and just down
to earth successful woman I have met! Jennifer is always thinking out of the
box in business terms on how to bring her organization to the next level, and I
admire her for her sense of networking and wanting to be better in her
approaches and strategies. Thank you Jennifer for allowing me to be a part your
organization!
.. ..
I know that before I know it, this lovely month of December
will be over. I looked at my schedule yesterday and was like really? Really?
Wow! I can’t believe how busy and booked I am. I have a few photos shoots where
I am working as a makeup artist and hair stylist, appearances I need to attend,
and video shoots of your’s truly in BEAUTY HEAVEN Sephora! For this upcoming
week, I should be working on set for a music video and two cover shoots with my
fav client of all time, Miss Jennifer Nicole Lee!!! JNL is now dubbed World
Fitness Phenomenon! I need to take time to blog just about Jennifer! She’s B-mazing
and deserves her own blog! Hello to ....Long
Beach.... and LA all week!!!
.. ..
My schedule doubled with bookings in the recent months with
permanent makeup since I’ve made it available for the general population. I was
doing it through an institute and focused more on corrective permanent makeup,
and now have decided “Heck, I can offer it to everyone else!” Even those who
just need me to apply permanent makeup for the first time! We’ve been putting
my office together and it’s coming together slowly. It’s not perfect yet but at
least there’s something! This is how I think of life. You should do what you
can to the best of your ability. I know a lot of people what everything to be
perfect before they do something, but I believe that when you wait until
everything is perfect…that “perfect” moment will never come. You will want to
change something all the time. So the heck with it and just do it! Haha! So the
office is up and functioning but not 100% to the point where you feel like you
just walked into the Burke & Williams Spa! But it will. :D I wish I can
have Candice Olson from “Divine Design” to come and decorate my office!!! That
would be a dream! She’s my favorite interior decorator!!! I love her style…um I
love everything about her work! She’s B-mazing!
.. ..
I just saw a mock up of my permanent makeup site and it
looks great. Simple and clean. That’s the job of my faBulous webmaster and BFF
Al! I hope to get it up soon so everyone who has questions about the procedure
can go to the FAQ. I spent weeks on the FAQ and when you see it, you might be
overwhelmed with all the questions and answers I wrote! I wrote them all! I
think it was 7 pages single space the last time I checked! I wanted to be as
thorough as possible! I may go back and take away some of the questions. We’ll
play by ear! I will most definitely tell you when my advanced permanent makeup
site is launched!
.. ..
I am certain I am like many of you. We have so many things
to get done and before we know it, tomorrow is starting! I have been working on
a few projects. Two of them are really huge for me and it will take some time
before I will complete them. I am setting myself up for some really big steps
and will likely face some little hiccups along the way. But you know what? I’m
not a quitter! Every month or so I have phrases that I say to myself and those
around me. One month it was “My pleasure.” Whenever anyone would ask me
something, instead of saying “Yes” or “Of course”. I learned from the DUGGARDS
on TLC from the show “18 and Counting” that the proper response is “My
pleasure!” So I did that for awhile. I also said “Fired” for a long time too!
Everyone is probably tired of “Fired” from me but I still love it!! Recently, I’ve
been saying, “I’m not a quitter!” There was one time in my life where I quit
something I did because it felt just right in my heart to not complete it and I
always think about how I should not have “quit.” I know I was put in that
situation because I had a taste of how it felt to “quit” something. Even though
I know I did the right thing, it was still a sour taste. I think about “what if’s”
all the time and I hate living in regret. So because of my experience, I try my
best never to quit. I’m so silly because I apply my slogan even when I’m
playing my iPhone games against other iPhone users. When a person I am playing
against keeps beating me, I keep playing and think of ways to play better. Some
people would just quit and play with another player, but you know what??? “I’m
not a quitter” so I will play until they leave! LOL!!!
.. ..
OMG this relates to what I saw on the Ultimate Fighter
reality show. When I saw Big Baby lose the semi-finals fight (which I was soo
bummed because I really really liked him. He loved flowers. He was so kind and
gentle, but when he entered the cage he was a monster…well except his standup
game needed lots of work and he should have focused on that during the 6 months
they had off before the fight last night where he lost again. I know his game
plan was to focus on his strengths which was his ground game, but I think
during the 6 months they had time off to train for last night’s fight, he
should have perfected his overall game including standup…or at least the basics
of standup. Big Baby didn’t have his hands up to defend himself and just look
really uncomfortable on his feet. Oh well. I wish him the best and from the
last episode of Ultimate Fighter, I think he may quit fighting all together.
However, Shaun thinks he just needs to join a different camp so they can build
on his talent), one of the coaches told him something along the lines of he’s
lost before and knows the pain. Losing
only made him a better fighter. That’s such a true statement in life!!!
I’ve fallen many times and I know that because I have gotten up before, I can
get back up on my feet again even if I feel like all hope is lost and I am in
an even worst situation than before. The experience has made me a better
person. So back to why I am not a quitter and so you should not be a quitter!!!
Keep on moving and doing your thing. Only greatness lies ahead for all of us!!!
:D
.. ..
Okay back to my projects I was talking about above: I don’t
even think I can complete it by the end of next year. But I am at least setting
myself up with goals! As for as goals, anything that you dolls would like to
share? What are your goals for next year? Why do you find that goal important
to achieve and how long do you think it will take you to achieve them? Fill me
in!
.. ..
I really need to do some shopping and to have some “fancy”
clothes for my own upcoming shoots. I know my wedding planning Kelly Duprat
probably doesn’t think so because we recently went shopping and OMG I think I
scared her with the amount of clothes I picked up in one stop! I purchased like
a huge trash bag full of clothes and accessories! To Kelly: It was just a good
day. I was able to find things that fit and I liked how they look like on me! Tee
hehe.
.. ..
It’s been hard for me to find a stylist who really gets what
I am all about. I am a curvy girl and dang it…I like it to show! Haha! I am
fancy and I like bling. I no longer believe the shorter the better haha! But a
nice fitting outfit that accentuates just the right parts is what I like. A few
stylists I have worked with like to put me in a pumpkin outfit! Haha. I’m like
trust me dolls, I can work that “other” outfit! :D I think my fashion sense or
who’s style I like who be Carrie Underwood and possibly Beyonce (haven’t kept
up with her lately, but I used to like her). Carrie Underwood = pretty and
classy.
.. ..
You know what tip I can give about clothes. If there is
something you are insecure about (which of course you shouldn’t!), don’t cover
it up because you are only making it more noticeable! Trust me! I see this
daily!!! Just work it, own it.
The most beautiful and sexy women I see are the ones who love themselves. Of
course don’t be trashy! That will not vibe in my book! What I mean is to forget
trying to get skinnier (almost every ladies obsession) and love yourself. Even
the most beautiful and skinniest ladies I know, don’t think they are beautiful
or skinny enough! And you know what…if you love yourself first, everything else
will fall into place (i.e. your weight and everything else you want to work on
yourself). :D Like Oprah would say and a little morph by your’s truly: If you
love yourself first (Katie B), then you’ll put yourself back your (priority) list
(Oprah’s Best Life 2009). I’m a nerd I tell you!
.. ..
Well, I have to get back to work. Just thought I’d blog for
a second to fill you in on my life. Hope all is well. Happy holidays and happy
shopping. Don’t forget to stop by KatieBCosmetics.com to grab some mineral makeup
goodies to doll yourself up for the holiday parties or for a gift for a friend.
There’s nothing better than sharing your favorite Katie B things with your
favorite people! :D

Hello My Lovely Hens! How are you dolls? I am good. I just spent over two hours blogging about my latest experiences and life advice I had after my life experiences and thanks to the backspace button, it ended up causing my page to go "back" and deleted everything. I am so frustrated right now because I talked about how I haven't had time to blog because of my busy schedule and then when I make time right now, everything got deleted. Urgh!!! I'll revisit what I wrote previously another day (ha!). Before you read on, please excuse any typos or any grammatical errors I will be making. It's about 3 am and by the time I am done writing this blog, it will be about 4am. I have a gig at 8am, so I need to get to bed asap and hence, will not be able to revise my blog. Okay, so a brief update on your's truly! I am doing great. I got a haircut recently and it's pretty short. It's a great cut and I wanted a shorter length because I'm over the long hair looking flat on my head when I do not style it, but I'm not used to it. I think I need about a week or two to start loving my cut. :D I cut off about 5 inches so you can just imagine my shock! YOUR'S TRULY IS PLANNING HER WEDDING! That's right! It's finally MY turn to plan my wedding! How exciting is this?! I am having oodles of fun planning my wedding. SB and I have so many ideas in mind and it's all about execution. I have had everything planned since I was a child. I've made changes to stay current with latest trends but the overall idea is the same lol! I can't tell you the theme yet and what we plan to do, but you can best believe it will be a funfilled event!! I think I found my wedding dress. It's just a matter of finding a store that has it in stock for me to try it on. It seems as though there are not many stores like Kleinman's where you can go a try on a zillion dresses. All the places I've seen have been limited in their selection for trying on dresses (not sizes but wrt not even carrying the dress I want)! Boo. But I am determined nonetheless. I will find my dress even if SB has to drive me many many miles away! Haha. I have my flowers lined up and pretty much everything else. I found my church and my reception (my family's restaurant Paracel Seafood - beautiful, spacous venue with the best Vietnamese food in town)! Can't wait until the day comes. Not sure if you know...I'm sure you do, but just in case...I'm madly in love with the man of my dreams! I was never a sappy, emotional person before. But with my love dove, I cry over everything that involves the idea of LOVE. I know right?! Love makes you feel crazy things lol! I think I'm going to be crying like heck on our big day!!! :D AND partying it up in a party bus at the same time!! LOL!!! Skip the limo and let's go straight to the party bus lol!!! KATIE B & KBC GIVING BACK I've been doing this for quite some time now and have not really been saying much..well because I haven't had time to blog! I miss blogging and being able to share my life experiences and adventures with you all. I will try my best to blog more often ;D! I don't even know where to begin when I talk about how long I've been giving back. I'll try to make it brief! I have the biggest heart in the world! Too big that it's to a fault! Since I was young I always wanted to do something to "save the world." For example when I got my license, I would give women who were walking on their streets when their grocery bags a ride home. I know it sounds crazy in our soceity today but I really did do it! These Vietnamese ladies told me that they were walking home from the supermarket because their older children were working and they did not know how to use public transportation. I knew that they would need a ride home because there would be no houses within their vincity. I felt so bad for them and felt their pain from their disconnect from an English speaking community. So I wanted to "save" them. There were times when I was at the pharmacy waiting for my presciption and saw elder people who could barely walk come to pick up their presciptions. I would talk to them and offer them rides home (in my 1980 - yes 1980 in 1998 - blue or whatever paint was left Honda). They gladly accepted and I was more than offer to give a helping hand/ride! Then there were times when I wanted to help save my grandfather and people in his poverty stricken village in Vietnam and felt helpless. I felt that no matter what I did and how much money I could give, it was never enough and I was often discouraged and frustrated! I was really sad. Then one day, I talked to my law professor about my life and my life goals and she gave me one of the best advice ever. She knew I was sad, she told me "Katie B - do what you can. That's all you can do." That statement changed my life because instead of being frustrated and sad, I redirected my mind to always think that if I helped others, I was still helping another and making a difference. All of the above goes to what I did and am currently doing now. I'm finally writing about it because I think it's important for me to help promote random acts of kindness. I do it all the time and having been doing it since I was a kid. In fact, I have been doing random acts of kindness even before I learned about the term in high school and was told to do it! Seriously! I have been able to help out a few people who honestly cannot afford me or in a life situation where they need a little bit of a 'picker upper.' Unfortunately, I will not be saving the world as I had hopedsince I was a child (haha), but I was at least saving a person from a btter/unpleasant experience they are having with the world (or life). I will not be able to help them out of their financial situation, their illness, or their sadness or heartbeak, but I can at least bring a huge smile and confidence in oneself, and the confidence in the kindheartness of humanity back to the person receiving my deed. After all, it's the best I can do right? :D Thanks to the reminder of my best pal, I have been given the gift to transform others with my artistry and with that, I shall make an effort to utilize my gift to the fullest! I hope that you will think of and execute a random act of kindness today and whenever you can. The smile that you bring to another's face and to know that you made a difference (even though you may consider it small, your act may be the biggest thing to the person receiving your act), is worth a million bucks! With that said, I hope you dolls have a smashing day!I am off to work in a few!! It should be an exciting day! Be inspired and inspire others...life is as beautiful as you make it, Katie B katiebcosmetics.com

Hello loves!!!
Here is a brief summary for those of you who are a little curious about
getting permanent cosmetics by your's truly, Katie B! I am so excited
to provide this service for the general public. I am certified in
advanced micropigmentation. The term advanced means that not only can I
perform the basics of permanent makeup, but unlike other permanent
makeup artists, I also have extensive training and specialize in
corrective and camouflage work of permanent makeup. This is beneficial
to you as a potential client because I will be able to perform the
procedure to almost perfection! In addition, I will interconnect my
expert and artistic eye in the traditional application of makeup with
permanent makeup to improve the shape and appearance of your existing
features.
SERVICES
I provide permanent makeup for the following services:
Partial to Full Eyebrows
Upper Eyelid
Lower Eyelid
Eyelash Enhancement
Lipliner
Full Lip Extensions & Full Lip Color
Scar Camouflage
Areola/Nipple Repigmentation
TECHNIQUE
I perform permanent makeup through the latest technology in the hand
method. I do not use the machine that buzzes and has a cord. My
technique allows complete control, precision, fast healing, little or
no touchups, and most important of all, the most natural look! The hand
tool allows me to implant permanent color into the skin the easiest and
gentlest way possible. I actually have permanent makeup as well! I’m a
chicken when it comes to needles and everything “hurts” to me. But you
know what, I got it done and I had no discomfort! It was amazing!!!!
Furthermore, I use the latest pigment (unlike tattoo where they use
ink) that will not turn blue or green over the years as we have seen
occur on our mom’s or aunties! :D
PRICING
I am having a Fall special for all of these services with a savings of $250 or more. Please email me for my pricing!
EYEBROWS:
My rate for permanent makeup for eyebrows is :D. This includes the
consultation, shaping, waxing and tweezing, the initial procedure,
second procedure (generally referred to as a touchup but I refer to it
as a time to perfect your brows and make any changes you would like),
and all supplies and topical anesthetic and creams necessary for the
procedure. On the day of the procedure, you can expect to allocate 4 to
5 hours to everything from paperwork, to the shaping of the brows to
your wishes, to the procedure itself.
UPPER EYELINER:
My rate for the permanent makeup for upper eyeliner is :D. This
includes the consultation, shaping of the eyeliner, the initial
procedure, second procedure (generally referred to as a touchup but I
refer to it as a time to perfect your liner and make any changes you
would like), and all supplies and topical anesthetic and creams
necessary for the procedure. On the day of the procedure, you can
expect to allocate 3 to 4 hours to everything from paperwork, to the
shaping of the liner to your wishes, to the procedure itself.
I am also throwing in free eyelash enhancement while I do the eyeliner
procedure. This is a :D value. The eyelash enhancement procedure is
perfect along with the eyeliner procedure because this way we can
ensure the eyeliner reaches the base of the lashline so when you open
your eyes, there will not be any white areas from the upper waterline.
I hope that makes sense. I can discuss it with you when we meet for the
consultation.
LOCATION
My permanent makeup office is currently located in Temecula,
California. I know my office may be far for a few of you, but please
keep in mind that it will be worth your drive to have beautiful
permanent cosmetics!
Lastly, I am offering a FREE consultation to answer all questions and
concerns. Please let me know if you would like to set up an
appointment. Please email me at katie_b_cosmetics@hotmail.

Hello Loves!
That's right! It's time for me to start saying farewell to Wedding Season 2009. My season doesn't officially end until the end of October (10/31/09 to be exact) with exceptions of a few weddings in November and December 2009. But the crazy weekends with two to three weddings a day in different cities like San Diego to Livermore in Northern California, or those with two weddings in different states in one day are over with starting November 2009!
Wedding Season 2009 has been good to me this year. I worked with over 75 brides (or perhaps more) and I worked with about 500 bridesmaids, moms, grandmas, sisters, aunties, and friends of the bride and/or groom this season. Lastly, I had at least 150 makeup and hair trials for engagement photo shoots. This year I noticed that quite a number of brides have had not only the trials, but booked me a second time to when they reshot their engagement pictures.
To say that I'm sad is an understatement. Weddings are my life! It has been an obsession of mine since I was 5 - just like makeup and hair! I'm one of those prissy girls who has planned my wedding and know exactly what I'm going to wear, what flowers I want, how I want my photos, what music I want to have played at the reception, etc. So to say that I have to put anything involving weddings on the side even for a brief moment is just heartbreaking! What will I do? :D
I am on the phone with one of my brides daily. Each and every single one of my brides receives my undivided attention regardless of how busy I am. We talk about the schedule for the BIG day, any questions she may have about the wedding, my professional opinion as to what hair jewelry the bride should have on her hair, any vendors I recommend, etc. If I’m not on the phone with my bride, I’m either emailing her or communicating to her wedding planner. Being a makeup artist and hair stylist is not that simple. We really get in deep with the planning. Also, there is a lot of pressure being a makeup artist AND hair stylist for a bride’s special day. I not only have to stick to a very strict schedule in which I MUST have a bride and her bridal party ready (I cannot run 10 minutes over my time frame or else she would be late to her pre-wedding photos or worst, she would be late to her own ceremony!), but I HAVE to make her feel beautiful inside and out. It’s one of those days where a person CANNOT have a BAD HAIR DAY OR even a KIND OF BAD MAKEUP DAY! Everything must be perfect! NO EXCEPTIONS! If the bride is unhappy with an artist’s work, that’s the beginning of the downfall. She will have a meltdown, she will not look happy in her photos, and feel “ugly” all day no matter how many people tell her how pretty she looks! Believe me, you don’t want to be the reason why a bride is unhappy. She will NEVER forget!
For this reason, I am the “go-to” makeup artist and hair stylist because I love the pressure. I’m like “bring it on!” Many other makeup artists refer me their clients because they get too nervous and do not have enough patience as I do. Also, being a makeup artist and hair stylist for brides is significantly different from working with a model or someone who wears makeup often. Most of the time, brides have never worn “as much makeup” (which is really not that much) and it takes a lot for a bride to adjust to her new look. They generally have a lot of questions and concerns, and are often indecisive. Models, on the other hand, understand that it takes a good amount of makeup to make them “pop” in pictures and are able to communicate exactly what they want or dislike about a certain technique in makeup!
LASTLY, IF YOU BOOK ME, KATIE B, YOU WILL GET ME!
I thought one thing that I should mention before I end this blog is that when you book me, you are booking me and I will NEVER substitute another person in my place unless I am in the hospital or something extremely tragic has happened to me (which I have not had to have anyone substitute me yet in my past 14 years…knocking on wood). I’ve seen this happen too many times. I don’t know how it exactly happens (and I think at times, the bride is aware of receiving a team member), but if you plan on booking a makeup artist and/or hair stylist, stay away from companies like “Susie Q and Team.” You will get the “team,” which can and generally is bad news. Susie Q, who likely a makeup artist, is likely the marketing person writing the blogs, editing the pictures and posting the work from other artists, booking the gigs, promoting the group, etc. I may be wrong, but this has been my HONEST observation of why “team” is not a good route to go. Most of my brides have been through word of mouth and guests from weddings. Not to toot my own horn, but I think that says something about my talent versus being a great marketer. :D I do come with a team but they are there to support me and keep me organized and on task. However, I will touch each and every single client and do almost all the work. My past clients will second that. Other main artists will have another artist who is relatively new work on bridesmaids and family members, but I am different. I work on the bride, the grandma, the auntie, the friend, the cousin, the sister, the brother’s girlfriend, etc. :D So keep that in mind!
Have a great night loves! Thank you for reading. I appreciate your support and love beyond what words can describe!
If you haven’t already done so, please vote for me for best makeup artist on myfoxla. Also, please help me spread the word about voting for me. I thank you in advance.http://lnk.ms/1PN6B
