A long-awaited update video on how well Lizzie the bear is doing. She is two years old now and has adjusted quite happily in a multi-acre enclosure with the other bears at the sanctuary.

GENOCIDE of millions Innocent Animals as part of GREED!
Deliberate extermination planned and executed by the
TOTALLY UGLY, SELFISH PEOPLE WITH OVER SIZED EGOS!!!!!!

"Fur is worn by beautiful animals and ugly monsters."

"Greedy barbarians"

"I believe if you are willing to drape a fur around your neck you ought to have to drape the rest of the animal around your neck also. When you buy fur you don't just buy the skin you buy the murder of a totally innocent animal."

"And they call that "Luxury"????!!!!!! And they call that "Beautiful"????!!!!
It would be extremely beautiful if it were still attached to the animals that were murdered for it. It would be luxury to see those same animals in their natural enviroment--free and able to live their lives out without fear of ending up on some bimbo's back or on the same bimbo's bed.

"The rich and infamous make me sick to death with what they think is 'beauty' and 'luxury'. They are UGLY people with UGLY souls and no redemptive value as human beings. The ones that make this concept of 'beauty' available to the misbegotten rich are souless monsters that I hope meet their Karmas in like kind."

may 23rd was 1 year i rescued elizabeth rose with the help of zeke loftin and jim....
she was just a baby when i first saw her picture on livedeal.com...
i carried the image of her day and night and even in my dreams....
that is when i knew i had to rescue her... and i did!
it was mentally exhausting, time consuming (1 month) and very costly....
but i would do it all over again....
to see her grown and i know very happy gives me a feeling
that i have never felt before....
i hope one day to meet her and hold her paw in my hand....

here is a letter and 2 pictures i received today from lisa, owner of peace river refuge where ER lives...

Elizabeth Rose is doing wonderfully – she is growing like a weed. Since she is still smaller than the three bears in the acre enclosure, she is allowed to play with them during the day, but she is separated for feeding and she sleeps in her own den at night. Her best friend is Dolly, who is 18 years old and twice her size but still plays like a youngster.

I'm hoping to have time to update many of the animals on our website – Elizabeth Rose is one of many who are not represented there yet. Since our webmaster left over a year ago, I have been trying to do that as well as everything else…never enough time in the day. Of course the animal care always comes first, so I'm sure you will forgive me for occasionally falling behind on the computer and office work when I'm overloaded.

I'll try to have some photos uploaded soon…

These are the only recent photos I can get to quickly, the rest are on my camera (and my computer is crashing, badly). These are Lizzie in her temporary pen, attached to the acreage pen – one is me training her to let me hold her paws (and later trim nails) and the other is her in her own private pool. The in-ground pond in the big pen is for all of the bears and is far enough from the side of the enclosure that good photos are a bit difficult.

I won't have time (or computer capacity) to update the website for a while, but rest assured that if any big news (good or bad) happens regarding Elizabeth Rose you guys will hear about it right away. Everything has been going smoothly, that is why we haven't dropped everything to do 'news releases' about her.

I need a clone (and a new computer!)
;-)

Thanks for staying in touch,
Lisa

It has been one year since my beautiful May escaped the Jaws Of Death... literally... being it was a large snapping turtle that attacked her...
She is extremely happy with her new mother, Sheila and her boyfriend Slyvester...
May has laid a number of eggs and were hoping there will be babies on the way!
I am thankful to have found such a loving home for May...

Here is a little story from Sheila about May and Slyvester....

Photobucket

Marjorie...
On what happens here at "Happy Hour Stables" (you know that is the name of our farm here, seriously) each and every morning with little Miss May and her beau, Slyvester.
Usually about 6 am, I go outside to let the geese out of their house...when I do that, I always empty all of their water containers, (some for playing in, some for swimming in, and some for just drinking) and give them fresh water. Immediately after the fresh water is in the pools, Little Miss May May will go dunk herself, get nice and wet, and smooth her feathers with her beak. Then she will go straight to Slyvester and start "kissing" / "biting" him to get his full attention. She will then put her bum in his face, and lay down on the ground, and Slyvester will climb aboard. Now since May and Slyvester are both "physically challenged" they always end their "session" by falling over to one side or the other when the deed is done. It is both beautiful and hysterical...they have found their soul mates, as Slyvester and May May are truly in love. They have done so much for each other...May has taught Sly that there are humans that you can trust and that they're okay...and Sly has taught May that she is a goose...well, at least part goose!

P.S. remember...this story makes even more sense when you know Sly's history...the abuse that he had to endure...the broken leg, the head injury...the horrible conditions...its truly amazing that he trusts me and loves me so soon after all the terrible things he lived thru. And now, he has the most beautiful blue eyed girl for his very own...and he loves May so much!

I'll keep ya posted on the eggs...keep your fingers crossed that we have some little babies coming soon!

Sheila

a female cat gave birth to 3 kittens, or so was thought...

the 3 small kittens could be seen curiously playing in and around a small pile of construction debris until one day...

a forth kitten appeared....
unlike the others; she was named alvin....

there sat alvin in the green grass her silky black fur glistened in the sun as she gazed up at her new world...
alvin was an almost sad specimen for she was so very tiny and motionless...
she was left sitting alone by her mother and her siblings....
a predators easy prey, alvin was rescued from a certain death....

after a week i observed alvin having difficulty relieving herself... (both urinating and passing stool)
first trip to my vets revealed nothing via x-ray... a remedy was given (i use a holistic vet) and alvin was back home with me soon passing stool....
another week had passed and once again alvin's problems began....
it was then determined that she must be opened up to see what was causing the blockage...

i now was faced with two choices.... surgery or put alvin to sleep...
the choice was a no brainer.... euthanasia was sure death, where as surgery held hope...
the surgery was risky indeed considering alvins age (only 5 weeks)
the anesthesia alone could cause her death...

the operation was a success and it was discovered that alvins uterus was attached to her colon and twisted about...
the majority of her colon was removed....
she also had stool in her the size of a dogs stool and 48-cc's of urine was extracted....
my vet could not believe alvin had survived to this point and said she was meant to be here with me...

alvin is now doing very well and maturing but not growing so far...
she is extrodinary small (1.7lbs) and could easily give the word runt a new meaning....
she is now 3.5 months old and is the size of a 5 week old kitten... this is alvin's story so far...

the name alvin is normally reserved for he and not she.... but it is her name and so shall it be....

Oh you beautiful and stubborn cat...
Wandering to and fro, never knowing where you're at...
'Trouble' could have easily been your name...
'Love' I could have named you just the same...
Free you are now to fearlessly go your own way...
Yet my heart is your home and there forever you will stay...

NO EXCUSES FOR CRUELTY!!!!

WSPA

In 2007, artist Guillermo Vargas showed an emaciated live dog in a Nicaraguan gallery. Despite public outcry, the country's lack of animal welfare laws meant he faced no consequences. This year, when Vargas was invited to compete in an art show in Honduras, WSPA and member society the Honduras Association for the Protection of Animals and their Environment (AHPRA) acted to ensure this cruelty could not be repeated by any artist.
Elly Hiby, WSPA's Head of Companion Animals, commented: "Information regarding the treatment and fate of the dog used in the 2007 exhibition is inconsistent, but for WSPA – irrespective of the exact outcome – chaining a dog without food or water for public entertainment is a reprehensible abuse". Our attempts to discuss the matter with Vargas' representative were met with silence.
But images from the Nicaraguan gallery were not forgotten. When Vargas was invited to enter the VI Central American Visual Arts Biennale (to be held in Honduras this year), an independent internet petition against the artist and his work attracted over two million signatures. WSPA sought a meeting with Business Owners for Art (Empresarios por el Arte), one of the sponsors of the Honduras Biennale.
In the meeting, WSPA's representative gave sound welfare arguments against the work shown in Nicaragua and formally requested that the Honduras AHPRA be invited to observe the Biennale exhibition.
After pressure from WSPA, the Honduras AHPRA and the public, the Biennial organisers have agreed not only to make AHPRA official observers but also to include new competition rules that prohibit the abuse of animals.
While we are satisfied that no-one will be able to abuse animals in the name of art during this forthcoming exhibition, stronger laws need to be in place that prohibit animal cruelty full stop. WSPA and member society UCC are currently supporting a campaign, led by the Commission for Natural Resources and Environment of the Nicaraguan Assembly, calling for legislation to protect animals in Nicaragua.
You too can support the protection of animals worldwide by signing the Animals Matter to Me petition. This calls for a Universal Declaration on Animal Welfare, an internationally accepted set of principles about the treatment of animals that would encourage countries to improve their legislation.
