Wainwright/McGarrigle Family Christmas Concert

Special Guests Announced!

*Boy George * Dawn French * Guy Garvey *Jennifer Saunders* Teddy Thompson*

Plus Many More

‘A Not So Silent Night’ Featuring Kate McGarrigle,
Rufus & Martha Wainwright at Royal Albert Hall, December 9th

Boy George, Dawn French, Guy Garvey, Jennifer Saunders, and The Thompsons (Teddy, Kami, Linda) are just a few of the special guests and friends announced for the hotly anticipated first London, UK Wainwright/McGarrigle Family Christmas concert, ‘A Not So Silent Night’ at the Royal Albert Hall, December 9th.

This special seasonal Royal Albert Hall show will also include performances by Ed Harcourt, International soprano and ‘Prima Donna’ star Janis Kelly, Jenni Muldaur plus human beatbox Shlomo.

In the US, Christmas has practically become synonymous with the bi-annual Wainwright/McGarrigle Carnegie Hall shows. The New York Times has called the show an “enactment of a family gathering: motley, full of overlapping agendas, a little sentimental, a little fractious but harmonious in the end.”

“It is an off-the-cuff evening of friends and family kind of popping on and off stage as if the stage was our living room,” said Rufus
Wainwright.

Tickets are on sale now priced from £35-£70. The concert will be presented by Artist Ticket. Tickets are available online from www.artistticket.com by phone on 0871 230 0333 and to personal callers to the Royal Albert Hall Box Office.

A limited number of exclusive A Not So Silent Night VIP Packages are available. They include excellent seats for the concert, entry to an intimate post-show cocktail with the performers, and unique gift bags.

These packages can be obtained by making a donation of £500 to benefit cancer research through the Kate McGarrigle Fund.

For more information, call Cléa Desjardins at the McGill University Health Centre Foundation on 00-1-514-931-5656 or visit the A Not So Silent Night website at www.anotsosilentnight.net
or email Clea at anotsosilentnight@gmail.com. This is organised by the McGarrigle/Wainwright family and friends, a supporter of Cancer Research UK.

The Kate McGarrigle Fund is a non-profit organization dedicated to cancer care and research and affiliated with the McGill University teaching hospitals and Cedars Cancer Institute in Montreal, Canada.

Hey everyone!

I want to let all of you know that earlier today, CBC announced that I was one of five artists chosen to represent Quebec in their “The Great Canadian Song Quest” competition!

Song Quest, in case you don’t already know, is a contest designed to create thirteen songs based on locations (nominated by listeners) throughout Canada.  For each province, listeners nominated a place that they wanted to have a song written about.  The five most nominated locations from each province were then selected to move on.  Right now, the top five are being voted on to determine the winning location.

Now, here’s the exciting part.  You can also vote for ME to be the one to create the song for Quebec!  I really want to do this, but I NEED YOUR HELP!  Go to http://www.cbc.ca/radio2/songquest/index.html and VOTE for me!  Get on Facebook, Myspace, and Twitter and tell your friends and family to do the same!  If you REALLY want to help me win, I have been told that the best thing to do is use Song Quest’s custom template to make a blog supporting me in this contest.  You can create the blog directly from Song Quest’s “Share Quest With the Rest” page on the site.  You can also upload images, videos, or anything else that you can think of to help make the case for me to be the one to make a song about Quebec!

You can vote for only ONE location and artist per day, so make sure that you vote for me each and every day!  Voting started today and ends at midnight E.T. on October 23rd and the winner will be announced at noon on the 24th.

Also, all throughout the voting period, my music will be played frequently on Radio 2 Morning and Radio 2 Drive, so be sure to listen in!

we'll kids i've had some time off and i don't know how much i have to show for it, but all that will change soon! me and some new york cats, are gearing up for a live record of edith piaf songs. i'm not talking "la vie en rose" and "milord", although they're great, me and the boys are taking on some of the lesser known songs which are masterpieces in their own right. piaf has always been in my life thanks to my mom and rufus. i think it was rufus who played me mom's records of piaf's when we were kids. i must have been 8 or so and ever since then she has lived in a little apartment in my heart. a french apartment of course.

i realize i said me and the boys but that's not quite right. jane scarpantoni, a fantastic cellist, will be joining us. it will be great to see jane again. she played on a few songs on my first ep years ago. we will be led by doug wieselman on guitar, who is on tour with antony right now. brad albetta of course, holding down the low end (i have a little crush him!). the beautiful thomas bartlett aka doveman on piano. cj camerieri blowing his horn (in a really good way) max moston lulling us into a trance on strings and a couple of other geniuses yet to be determined. the shows are gonna be at dixon place on chrystie street on the 14th and 15th of june.

all of this was hal willner's idea and i'm so glad he's as brilliant as he is!

we're also going to be filming the show. jamie catto from the band faithless and director of a film called "one giant leap" will be directing this and making projections (not about the future but onto the wall).

my job now is to try and learn the words. i don't know if i can learn them all, there are so many, but i'm trying for half the songs. the words are mind bending and beautiful and i find myself in tears a lot of the time while reading them.

i'll stop talking now but i hope that you will join us for these shows. we are doing 1 show on the 14th and 2 shows on the 15th so please come along. the tickets are cheap and i really like the space.

love to all,

martha w.

From 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM
Central Park SummerStage

A very special evening of dance and music that will feature a world premiere by choreographer Christopher Wheeldon, set to new music by Martha Wainwright, both commissioned by City Parks Foundation.

Two exceptional evenings of dance are on hand as the critically acclaimed ballet company Morphoses/The Wheeldon Company premieres a new work commissioned by City Parks Foundation. Performing alongside the dancers will be popular singer/songwriter Martha Wainwright, who has written an original, fifteen minute score for these two special performances at Central Park SummerStage.

Internationally acclaimed choreographer Christopher Wheeldon is Artistic Director and Co-Founder of Morphoses/The Wheeldon Company. A former dancer with The Royal Ballet and soloist with New York City Ballet (where he served as Resident Choreographer from 2001 to 2008), Wheeldon founded Morphoses in 2007 with the goal of introducing a new spirit of innovation to classical ballet by fostering collaboration among choreographers, dancers, visual artists, designers, composers, and others who can bring new life and perspective to the dance. The company has since gone on to receive rave reviews, making Christopher Wheeldon one of the most in-demand choreographers working in dance today.

Since Martha Wainwright’s eponymous debut, the sharp-witted songbird has been keeping busy through international touring, earning numerous accolades and awards. She has made music with Pete Townshend, Damon Albarn’s Africa Express, Antony Hegarty, and Snow Patrol, with whom she scored a Top 20 hit. She’s covered Leonard Cohen songs for the film I’m Your Man, performed Bertold Brecht and Kurt Weill’s “Seven Deadly Sins” with the Royal Ballet Company, and sang Pink Floyd’s “See Emily Play,” with her mother at a Syd Barrett tribute.
