http://technologizer.com/2009/10/27/myspace-looks-past-social-networking/" MySpace has been especially busy it seems in recent weeks to recast
itself as an entertainment destination as it cedes the social
networking space to Facebook. In fact, the two sides are talking about
ways they could work together, according to comments made to the Telegraph newspaper.
Facebook is apparently interested in MySpace’s content, which they
suggest could be incorporated into Facebook through its Connect
feature. Both sides have confirmed that talks are indeed ongoing, but
haven’t really specified how far the talks may be.
One thing is working in Facebook’s favor: MySpace CEO Owen Van Natta
is a Facebook alum. So I don’t think its a far stretch to say that
Natta himself probably is leading MySpace into the willing arms of its
now larger rival.
I’m not saying this was his plan all along — but when you’re getting to the point that MySpace is, everything should be on the table.
This isn’t the only partnership that MySpace is apparently working on. Next up, Microsoft. Kara Swisher reports
that Redmond is looking at MySpace Music to beef up its music offering
on MSN, another potentially lucrative move. With MSN Music struggling,
teaming up with a market-leading service like MySpace’s just makes good
business sense.
In the end, it looks like MySpace has just about given up on social
networking from recent news that’s coming out of the company. I guess
we’ll find out soon if that was a smart idea or not, no?

I still don't really understand what Microsoft did with the Danger / Sidekick purchase.
I'm betting they're losing lots of Sidekick users to the G1, and now the MyTouch.
One of the things I like about Microsoft is that it's a software company. It has repeatedly made major forays into software on a competing partners platform.
I would love to see Microsoft Embrace and Adopt Android. Let them try Extinguishing it with some Windows Mobile/Android fork even. It would greatly raise the quality of Windows Mobile software.
Android is so very open that there are lots of angles by which Microsoft, or Yahoo, or anyone trying to eat Google's lunch could compete directly with google on the Android platform.
I'm sure Google has bet that Android user's will remain Google user's, and will see lots of google Ad traffic. But I see real opportunity for other's to compete that for ad traffic. AdMob and other mobile ad companies out represent Google on the mobile application add dollars. (Although IIRC google did announce a limited app/add beta that application developers could apply for).
Google can be replaced as the default search, mail, etc. client. The activity and intent model makes it reallly easy for user's to pick new defaults, and for applications to register as a default.
The user's are scheduled for Android before year end. The big mobile buying season is Christmas, and I'm sure everyone who has announced an Android handset will launch in time. (OTA firmware updates after launch are so easy on Android I expect they'll all put something out).
I'm pretty excited about the opportunities right now in the Android market, and having trouble myself deciding what to work on :-)

I am really looking forward to the launch of the T-Mobile MyTouch. It has the form factor I believe consumers are looking for. (Basically an iphone that also has the four main buttons found on Blackberries and a couple more.)

Me and my wife are both pretty happy with our dell laptops. So by default I would just buy the cheapest dell I can find running a good graphics card.
