I hope you can make it to a very special recital given by two of my advanced students, Sarah Kang and Kenin Coloma. This is a benefit concert for Sunnyvale Community Services.

My book, Scale Studies for Beginner and Intermediate Flutists, has been reviewed in the July/August issue of The Flute Network. Jerrold Pritchard's review starts with:

"This well-thought-out and handsomely produced 48-page book presents scale patterns in a progressive order with a variety of rhythms, articulations, scale fragments, and chord patterns to assure that the student masters the difficulties of each key before proceeding."

Read the complete review in the July/August issue.

Thank you Flute Network for supporting the small publishers!

I’m excited to announce that two of my students placed in the 2008 Flock of Flutes Young Artist Competition yesterday!  Congratulations to Stephanie Tu who placed 3rd in the Junior Division and Amotz Fraenkel who placed 2nd in the Novice Division!

I am very proud of all five of my students from the Meerenai Shim Flute School who participated in this competition.  Everyone was very well prepared.  Special thanks to Amotz’s brother Ittai Fraenkel who accompanied Amotz on the piano and Jiyun Chung who accompanied the other 4 flutists yesterday.

I will be at the National Flute Association convention in Albuquerque from August 6th-9th, 2008.  You can find me for a couple hours a day at the Andover Educators booth on the exhibits floor.  You can also view a copy of my book there and buy it at the Flute World or Carolyn Nussbaum booth.

My new book is Scale Studies for Beginner and Intermediate Flutists.  It is a progressive collection of scale exercises which help flutists gain facility and familiarity with all the keys, major and minor.  My goal was to write a book that can help flutists prepare for advanced flute studies books such as Taffenel-Gaubert's 17 Daily Exercises or Trevor Wye's Complete Daily Exercises.

Right now, it's available at Amazon.com and at West Valley Music in Mountain View, California.  It will also be available from my website on June 1st.
