Just a reminder that if you know of a church youth group or youth organization that would like to hold bingo games, with white elephant gifts for prizes in assisted living centers, you can go to the helping page (1st article) in this blog's archives for info on how they can get a bingo cage kit...
Welcome to all the new readers! For your benefit I'm posting this oldie but goodie once again...
Would also like to mention that this post has it's own page at:
We hope that everyone has a really Stupendous Weekend, take care and God Bless.....Mikey Do you get annoyed by all the experts and/or commercials telling you about how you should be thinking outside of "THE BOX?" Well, when BarbedWire Bob & I were going to Houston back in February to get some Miso (see 2/5/2006 post in the blog's archives), we started coming up with ideas for things to do to "THE BOX" other than think outside of it, resulting in...
Things to do with "THE BOX" other than think outside of it... As Demonstrated by our two legged critter family and friends... (along with Sissy, when she feels like it)
I would say "please don't do this at home," but since that would be hypocritical because, well, we did it at home, please be careful if you try something like this...
Recap of Episodes 1-8
In our 1st episode, the two legged critters in our zoo demonstrated how to poke "THE BOX" with the pokers we use when picking up trash in the Texas Department of Transportation's Adopt-A-Highway Program...
In Episode Two, they demonstrated how to smash "THE BOX" with a cinder block...
In our 3rd episode, they demonstrated how to beat "THE BOX" with baseball bats...
In Episode Four, they demonstrated how to take the stuffing out of "THE BOX" and set "THE BOX" on fire...
In our fifth episode, I gave the other two legged critters in our zoo a break and personally demonstrated how to place "THE BOX" in a pickle jar...
And since the photo of "THE BOX" at the end of Episode 5 was not very clear, Henry (introduced as my new Promotions Assistant) had graciously vollunteered to have his photo taken with "THE BOX" in it's current state at the time...
For Episode Six, Debbie had "THE BOX" on her bedside table...
Then during our 7th Episode, Henry had "THE BOX" keep him company while I picked up 16 bags of trash (along with the usual assorted debris) on April 1 & 2, 2006, during the Great Texas Trash Off, part of MikeyWear's participation in the Texas Department of Transportation's Adopt-A-Highway Program...
Then in Episode Eight, with the help of Henry, Seth and Caleb's Great Grandma Virginia hides an Easter Egg on top of "THE BOX" as she prepares an Easter Egg Hunt for them and Amy...
So what is next for "THE BOX?" Well... To Be Continued...

I got this from Fankie Mayo at Operation AC, an organization that I think is really, really neat, and wanted to share it with you...
Dear Operation AC Supporter,
Although we are known for sending just over 10,000 air conditioners to our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, I am pleased to announce a new and very different way to support our troops serving in Afghanistan. I myself will be going to Afghanistan around April 2009. Please keep on my website for news of that trip and you will see me there with this SATCOM gear while I visit our troops and get the program running on the ground there. We currently have one of these devices in Iraq with a Navy Seal team. We also have one unit headed to Afghanistan for use there.
Operation AC launches SATCOM For Soldiers!
WHAT IS BGAN? The Broadband Global Area Network or BGAN for short, is a global Satellite Internet Network with telephony using portable terminals. The terminals are normally used to connect laptop computers to broadband Internet in remote locations the terminal can be used anywhere. The value of BGAN terminals is that unlike other satellite Internet services which require bulky & heavy satellite dishes to connect, a BGAN terminal is smaller than a laptop and thus can be carried anywhere, and used globally.
Please see www.operationac.com more details. This new program puts the focus on our teams of troops deployed in the mountains of Afghanistan who stay out in small encampments for long periods of time without any way to reach home in any way. All funds raised for these terminals will go to buy the terminals and the blocks of time on the SIM cards. We can refill the SIM cards here for the soldiers who have the devices.
We know how hard the economic times are and we know there will soon be no funding for Morale, Welfare, and Recreation in the Defense budget. You may still support our troops in Iraq via our Virtual Carebox system as we focus on working with these teams of troops in Afghanistan who could really use our help. As I always do, I will ask God for help. The Lord provides and so do Operation AC supporters.
God Bless you,
Frankie Mayo
We hope that everyone has a really Fantastic Wednesday, take care and God Bless.....Mikey

From August 14, 2006:
Back in October (I think), KC Strate of Bach ECI (Brazoria County Association for Citizens with Handicaps/Early Childhood Intervention) had come by the Friday Morning Breakfast, so for coming by the breakfast I stopped by there to donate some MikeyWear and get more info for a post I wrote on 11-14-2005, and she had sent a thank you card with a hand written note, with a photo of one of the children that were being helped there with Santa...
Now I haven't sold that much MikeyWear yet to be able to make many contributions to the folks I have promised a portion of the off the top profits to and those contributions have been small, but the last time I sent checks to those I had promised to for he sales of the "Jesus Loves Me" t-shirts, without really thinking about it I decided to send an amount equal to what I sent to the others to Bach ECI, and received a thank you card with a hand written note with a photo of one of the children they are helping there...
Twice since then I've been with folks who were having a fundraiser and were trying to decide who they should contribute the money they raised to, and the 1st organization that popped in my head was, yep, you guessed it, Bach ECI...
And I thought it was because she had come by the Friday morning breakfast...
So about a week after last month began I did an inventory of the MikeyWear I have in stock and there were some that were slightly damaged (had a stain or two), so when deciding who to donate them to, well, there's no need to guess who popped in my head anymore...
Then on the way to donate the slightly damaged MikeyWear to Bach ECI I stopped by the post office to check the mail, most of the time I just check to see if there's anything that needs immediate attention (like a request for a Bingo Cage Kit) and throw the rest back in till it starts filling up and this was one of the times I grabbed them all...
Now as anyone that donates to organizations knows, for the week after the 1st of the month, most all of the organizations you donate to mail you a request for more money, some with a return envelope and some without, and that doesn't really matter, because I never can find the return envelopes when I'm sending contributions and use my own anyway, so when taking the mail to the car after pulling it all out of the mailbox I realized why BACH ECI is always the 1st place that always pops in my head when I'm thinking about what non profit organizations to make a contribution to...
It's time to take a break from this to copy and paste what I wrote about BACH ECI last year, so folks don't have to try to maneuver that far back in the archives to read it...
"Research shows that growth and development are most rapid in the early years of life. The earlier problems are identified, the greater the chance of eliminating or minimizing them. Early intervention responds to the critical needs of children and families in Brazoria County by Promoting development and learning, Identifying and providing early intervention and treatment, Providing support to families, Coordinating services, Decreasing need for costly special programs..."
Also to note: BACH ECI is a United Way Agency, so if you are contributing to the United Way through your work, you can designate all of your United Way donations to go to BACH ECI or any other United Way Agency that you choose...
After picking up the "Jesus Loves Me" infant t-shirts on Friday afternoon, I went by BACH ECI to donate some to them, was able to see their new expanded facility, and I can assure you that they will be making even more of a difference in this community, take care and God Bless.....Mikey
OK, guess it was after I got the new t-shirts and not right after I met KC, but I'm going to try to go to bed before midnight and don't want to have to finish this after getting up, so that's going to go without an edit...
So when I went by there today to get KC's permission to share her secret with you (which she obviously did, because you are reading this, of course!) and asked her if I could, she said "which one?" Then she offered me a cup of coffee and gave it to me in an Early Childhood Prevention mug and she told me to keep it, then when we sat down to chat for a few she pulled out chips and offered me a bag...
And during our conversation she asked me to be their back-up Santa for the Christmas Party there in case their main Santa was ill, don't think she asks everyone that, though...
Think it's going to be some time till I think of another organization to donate to 1st when I'm making contributions...
Hmmm, wonder just how many secrets KC does have...
Take care, God Bless, and g'night.....Mikey

I attended Roswell High School in Roswell, New Mexico, so am asked a lot about the Roswell Aliens, have no idea if the claims made by the folks are true, so I just tell those who ask what I know...
When living there, with so much land available in the city (there was more than one trail where a kid could ride a dirt bike, popping off the bike to walk it across the streets, all the way around Roswell) the City of Roswell was constantly trying to get folks to move there, at the time they were trying to make it a retirement haven...
While going to Middle School and High School in Roswell for four years, aliens were mentioned only one time in 7th grade, where some of the local kids told me about how the Bottomless Lakes in Bottomless Lakes State Park (some miles away from where the aliens landed) were craters created by aliens landing in their space ships...
I was a Rock Hound as a kid and spent a lot of time during my Sophomore year in the area near where the aliens landed, after discovering there was a great abundance of Rose Quartz specimens and some geodes there...
Whether you believe in the Roswell Aliens or not, the Roswell Alien Museum (formerly the old Plains Theater) is a fun place to visit, but if you are going to buy souvenirs, the Alien Gift Shops near it are a lot cheaper...
I saw the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey in the Plains Theater, it was a double feature with Joe Cocker's/Leon Russell's Mad Dogs and Englishmen, but liked The Kansas City Bomber and Billy Jack (which I also saw there) better...
The only other thing I know about this is that I am not an alien, or if i am, I don't know it, hope everyone is having a really Great Weekend, take care and God Bless.....Mikey

Here's a new recipe from out of the bag that "Chickasha Oklahoma Legend" Grandmother Vera gave Dad before she passed away...
Cabbage Rolls
1/2 lb sweet Italian sausage, casing removed
1/2 lb ground turkey - 1 medium onion, chopped
1 can zesty tomato soup - 1 cup cooked brown rice
1 pkg frozen chopped spinach, thawed & drained
1/2 cup water - 2 tbs vinegar - 1 head cabbage
Crumble sausage and turkey with onion in skillet. Over medium heat, cook until meat is no longer pink, stirring often. Spoon off fat, stir in 1/4 cup of the soup, spinach, & rice.
Add whole head of cabbage to 6 cups boiling water in saucepan. Cover and simmer until leaves are softened (2 minutes). Remove 8 outer leaves. Save remaining cabbage for another use.
Spoon 1/2 cup meat mixture in center of each cabbage leaf and place in skillet.
Combine remaining soup, water & vinegar and pour over rolls. Cover & simmer 45 minutes. Spoon sauce over rolls and enjoy!
I hope that everyone has a really Terrific Thursday, take care and God Bless.....Mikey

It was 19 years ago today that I stopped using drugs, so wanted to repost this today...
Have 11 of the Bingo Cage Kits left, so if anyone wants one for their youth group, please read below, take care, God Bless, and have a Wonderful Wednesday.....Mikey
Saturday, April 29, 2006 Let's get some BINGO Games Going!
I was actively involved in church youth groups from the end of 6th grade until the day I graduated from high school, then on graduation night I began to use drugs, when I decided to get off the drugs (a little over 16 years ago), what I had learned in those church youth groups made it a lot easier to understand what I had to do to get off and stay drugs...
One of my fondest memories when was when the first youth group I was involved in would go to a senior citizen's home and get a Bingo game going for them, we would bring white elephant gifts from home to give them as prizes and would play until all of them won something, one person would call the numbers, while others would help them mark their cards and know when to yell "Bingo!" and others would go around to visit those that didn't come to play Bingo, it was a lot of fun and it taught us a lot about helping others...
I would like for more church youth groups and youth organizations to do this, so I am in the process of purchasing 12 (to start with) Bingo cage sets, with cards and markers, to send to church youth groups or youth organizations that would like to go to an assisted living center (think that's what they call them now) and get regular Bingo games going in those facilities...
So I have all my ducks in a row, the church youth group or youth organization will need to have "all" of the the following info on the church's or organization's letterhead...
Name of church youth group or youth organization... Mailing address of church or organization... Contact email address... Name and adress of assisted living center... Contact name and number for church or organization... (to verify) Contact name and number at assisted living center... (to verify)
Mail it to...
MikeyWear PO Box 2759 Angleton, Tx 77516
Let's get some Bingo Games Going! Hope everyone has a great weekend, take care and God Bless.....Mikey
