So I'm slowly catching up on all my movies:

Children of Men - A very fascinating movie with a lot of interesting philosophies and points of view. The whole concept to me was very intriguing and I thought it was well done. I think to me what was scary about the story was that I could actually see that happening in reality. The political reactions and the human reactions to not having children in the world for a long time was something that was done reasonably well. The whole thing also to me, seemed to reflect sort of what's happening now in terms of current events. The war portrayed in the movie and the political strife shown is strikingly the same as to the iraq war and the political issues currently going on. Clive Owen did a fantastic job as the main character. His reaction to everything and how he handled it was very human and not at all like his other roles where he's a "super hero" always to the rescue. Here he was very well grounded and was equally unsure and scared of what was happening like everyone else. To me that's what made the movie that much more interesting. To see how he would get through all these obstacles in his way in order to protect this innocent woman and her baby was simply amazing. I highly recommend this movie if you're one who really likes a good dramatic thriller story.

Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants - Occasionally I like to rent a good fluff movie, for the sake of just escaping from reality and taking a break. This movie was warm hearted and had a wonderful chemistry to it. All four girls had a great relationship with each other on screen and the different stories behind each one were well done. It's not really a chick flick so much as a good family movie with something to teach and tell. I was a bit surprised at how much better it was than I thought it would be. I liked each character and the situations that they had to go through. Especially Carmen, it was heart breaking the struggle that she had to deal with when it came to the relationship with her estranged father. I think America Ferrera (sp?) is an excellent actress and definitely has an amazing talent for dramatic scenes.
It's a good family movie to watch and I recommend it for the heart ache and the laughs, along with the warmth.

Catch and Release - Another movie that I thought would be good fluff and turned out to be something better. This movie also had interesting elements to it. It's funny and it also makes you think about the relationships you have with your friends and how one person can truly affect another. Dealing with grief and moving on in life is hard and the relationship between Jennifer Garner and her three male friends had a nice touch to it. You could see that not everyone was perfect but everyone supported each other in some small way and helped to guide each other along. It also had a nice romantic touch to it as well, not so heavy handed in that area as I thought it was going to be. A nice movie to watch when you're bored on a friday or saturday night.

Seven - Been meaning to watch this thriller movie and I actually caught it on TV playing on TNT. I must say it was a whole lot more disturbing than I thought it would be. lol. I mean the killings were quite gruesome and the reasoning behind it was very macabre. On the whole it wasn't as suspenseful as I'd hoped, which made me disappointed. The ending was certainly cruel and somewhat predictable. Overall if you're the squeamish type I would not recommend it. Or if you're looking for a really thrilling crime drama with lots of twists and turns, I wouldn't recommend it either. Disappointing I must say. But I do give kudos to Kevin Spacey for making an excellent creepy villain.

Gone Baby Gone - I'm not sure what to say about this movie. I'm still sort of trying to process the ending and wrap my brain around the whole plot and the decisions that each character made to get to that point along with their reasoning. It definitely had a lot of twists and turns which kept me guessing to the very end as to what was going to happen. I was quite surprised and somewhat annoyed at the ending. It wasn't satisfactory for me at least, I guess I could see why Patrick (played by Casey Afleck) did what he did but to me his reasoning was more for his own selfish reasons than anything else. But that's just how I feel. The casting was terrifically done. I feel like everyone fitted the role that they were playing to a tee. Casey Afleck did a great job acting as Patrick and I look forward to seeing him in The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. A good movie that'll keep you guessing but the ending just might piss you off or make you go what?! (Just a fair warning to you)

Elizabeth the Golden Age - I was really looking forward to watching this movie, I had previously watched the first one "Elizabeth" and I thought it was superbly done. This one was a bit of a disappointment for me. First the good points. The visual effects were stunning. I must say the scenes with Elizabeth in court, the ships sailing, were all beautifully done. Every costume Elizabeth wore was gorgeous and awe inspiring. Cate Blanchett I swear is like Elizabeth reincarnated. She fits the role so well, I mean she is to me the epitomy of the Queen. She IS Queen Elizabeth. She just owns that role. I think she was robbed at the Oscars and so should have won for playing the queen. Clive Owen was dashingly handsome as usual playing Sir Walter Raleigh. (Who in my opinion is just super hot in anything he plays, lol.) Now for the not so good points. The storyline to me, or the point of time in which they picked to adapt during Elizabeth's reign was not so suspenseful or intriguing. The whole who's betraying who and who's a spy, got dull rather quickly. I found most of the movie seemed to focus more on being artsy and visually captivating rather than on storyline or dialogue. As beautifully shot as it was with all of their pretty costumes and sets, it seemed to lose focus on the story itself. For that it was disappointing. I still recommend it just for the whole experience of it, but it could have been done better.

Well that's all the movies I can think of for now that I've been watching. Will review more movies later if I think of any more I watch.

Been watching alot of movies lately, so here are some reviews:

El laberinto del fauno/Pan's Labyrinth: A beautifully crafted movie with a perfect mix of harsh reality and fantasy. Viewing the world of a harsh war with a cruel captain was  fascinating but mixed with the surreal and fastastic world of the labyrinth was amazing. The story was compelling and the acting all around was superb. This movie definitely earns its R rating with its depictions of violence and gruesomeness. But it also deserves every film award it can get. The screenplay is gorgeous and Guillermo Del Toro definitely does a fantastic job directing this movie. I highly recommend it.

Little Miss Sunshine: Another movie that I had been meaning to watch since it first came out, but never got a chance to until now. The humor is dark but very funny and spot on. The family is completely dysfunctional but you can relate to them in a way and understand the trials that they go through. You also root for Olive all the way for the title of little miss sunshine. This was a well written, funny and smart movie. Steve Carrell does a wonderful job being more calm and serious in his role as Uncle Frank. The entire cast is great and I loved Abigail Breslin as Olive. I only wish I had seen this movie alot sooner. Go see this movie! It is a definite must!

Pursuit of Happyness: I had heard so many positive comments about this movie that I became very curious to see it. I admit I was wary at first, mainly because I'm not such a big Will Smith fan. I have nothing against him, but I've never been overly eager to see his movies. Having said that, I was very pleasantly surprised by not only Will Smith and his acting, but the story itself was heartbreakingly wonderful. The message in this movie is so evident that anyone can acheive what they want, but must be willing to commit to it all the way. Life can be tough and challenging, but you must be able to rise to that challenge and realize that you yourself can be your own worst enemy. The story is definitely inspiring and the father son relationship goes beyond words. Seeing Will and his real life son together in a movie with great on screen chemistry was what really made the movie as special as it was. Will Smith definitely has grown up when it comes to his acting. A definite must see movie.

So that's it for now. Possibility of more reviews later.
