Happy dayz everyone!  As summertime once again gives way to the cool crispness of Autumn's vibrancy, I can't help but sit back and feel love and gratitude for everything around me...and I want nothing more than to share all if it with each of you and hear of all the good goings on in your lives as well...so please write me :)

The band: Still rocking, still growing, still having SO much fun, still meeting new and wonderful people, still so blown away by all the smiles we elicit.  YES!  A few upcoming full band shows to note:

- Friday, October 2nd, the return to Portland's ri~ra...so long overdue :)
- Saturday, November 7th, the long awaited 4 hour New York City show.  YAY!  The place: sojourn, located on 79th St between 2nd & 3rd.  Showtime kicks off at 9pm and will rock as long as you do.
- New Year's Eve at the phoenix, sunday river ski resort.  nuff said!

Mitch solo: Still singing like a madman, still learning new tunes, still amazed at everyone's enthusiasm, still the happiest solo acoustic artist in northern New England, perhaps beyond.  Please keep checking www.NOWisNOW.com for weekly updates of where I'll be singing next...cause singing to all of you often makes me smile huge.

New Tunes: I've been writing a bunch and have been sampling some tunes on y'all over the past year or so - your feedback has been great!  I finally posted one of em (Middle of Nowhere) on my website's "listen" page - please head to www.NOWisNOW.com/listenLyrics.htm to give it a spin; it's a solo acoustic recording done at my last Bitter End show.  I've also put up a cool version of "Haven" for you to check out.  Enjoy!

Life: My honey, Dylan, and I are scheduled to run the 40th new york city marathon on November 1st.  We've been training like crazy and are so excited to run this race together.  Hundreds of thousands will be out watching us and 39,998 other runners go the 26.2 miles.  For some reason, races like these make everything - and I mean EVERYTHING - oh so much better...life, love, health, you name it - it's better.   Anyone feel like joining us?

All right...I've babbled enough!  Be well everyone...never stop smiling, never stop taking what we've got for granted, and never stop being the great people you are.  I hope to sing to you soon!

peace, love, & hugs

Top of the morning to ya'll!  Hope this finds you well and amazing.  I’m staring out my window, watching the rain tickle my recently planted garden, singing along to that new tune I'm working on, doing my best to convince myself that my running pains are just weaknesses leaving my body, all while feeling amazed at all the great stuff happening.  Yup…it’s that time again…time to share in the collective happiness :)  Happy summertime you guys!

First and foremost, for all you guys who have engaged in “mitch overload” the last few months, I certainly have not engaged in “friends overload.”  Thank you to all who make it down show after show.  As both a solo artist and a member of one of the most fun power trios in northern New England, I do my best to make each show better than the last...to sing stronger than I did the last time, to rock harder than the last time, and to focus on making the repeated smiles even bigger.  Thank you for letting me do this for a living!

All right…some neat things are gonna start kicking in for summertime deck shows.  First, starting this Sunday, May 31st and running every Sunday through the end of September, I’ll be on the deck solo acoustic at The Portland Lobster Company, in the Portland's Old Port from Noon – 4.  And starting Thursday, June 18th and running every Thursday through the end of August, I’ll be beachside on the patio solo acoustic at The Brunswick in Old Orchard Beach from 1–5.  There will also be additional deck shows at The Stockhouse in Westbrook, ME & Jimmy the Greek’s in Old Orchard Beach, as well as some evening solo shows at The Cider Company in Glen, NH, The Montsweag in Woolwich, ME, & the Frog & Turtle in Westbrook, ME.  And the band!  Yes…the band!!!  We’ve got several cool shows lined up this summertime including June 13th & August 15th at Ri~Ra in Portsmouth, NH, June 19th & July 24th at Knot Grays in Boothbay Harbor, ME, June 26th & August 21st at The Wharf in Hallowell, ME, and couple of special 3 piece acoustic shows at The Portland Lobster Company on July 18th & August 8th.  For a complete schedule of shows (in addition to those I’ve listed here), please be sure to check back weekly at www.NOWisNOW.com

On the distance running front, I’m slowly but surely working my ski legs back into running legs.  The New York Marathon is on November 1st and I’m super determined to kick ass :)  I’ve been in “training to train” mode for the past month, building myself back up to “runner” status so I can jump on a cool training program in mid-June without really hurting myself.  Balancing all the running with all the music making should be a neat challenge…I’m super psyched for it!

All right…have an awesome day, week, month, summertime!  I can’t wait to sing to you again…please let it be sooner than later!

Peace, love, & hugs,
~mitch

Hi you guys!  How goes it?  It's been many moons since I last sat down to babble...way too much fun has been happening.  With spring now upon us, I finally get to sit back, reflect, and smile.  Tis a beautiful thing!

First and foremost, thanks to all who ventured from ski town to ski town to catch my shows this past winter.  The fact that, like me, you're combining skiing and music into one experience keeps us connected on many levels.  Isn't it great!!!  But then there are those beautiful people who would rather absorb sunshine and music simultaneously to elicit this similar giddiness.  Guess what...There are many NOW is NOW & mitch solo shows this summer for you to do just this.  What fun!

Starting May 31st and running every Sunday afternoon through September, I'll be doing a solo acoustic show on the deck from noon - 4 at The Portland Lobster Company in Portland's Old Port.  Sunshine, ocean breezes, yummy food, beer, tunes...YAY!  and for those folks who are on vacation in Maine (or playing hooky on that wonderful summer day), starting June 18th and running every Monday afternoon through August, I'll be doing a solo acoustic show on the patio from 1 - 5 at The Brunswick in Old Orchard Beach.  More sunshine, ocean breezes, beer, tunes, swimming in between sets...again, YAY!  There are additional solo acoustic shows weekly so please keep checking the schedule at www.NOWisNOW.com

And then there's the band.  The band!  Things have been going great with us.  The sounds have been sonically fantastic and we've been bringing the party with us wherever we go.  I'm not sure how this direction fell upon us, but we're running with it and not looking back.  We've been playing out a few new originals, "Middle of Nowhere" and "Andrea," and have been receiving some cool reactions in response.  Trust me, We don't take these responses for granted.  Thank you!  If you'd like to hear these tunes up close and personal - along with our other originals and boogy cover tunes, we're playing out 3 - 4 times/month in the northern new england area.  We'd LOVE to sing to you.  Some venues include Knot Gray's, Boothbay, ME, The Wharf, Hallowell, ME, The Montsweag Roadhouse, Woolwich, ME, The Dolphin Striker, Portsmouth, NH, and the Ri~Ra's in Portland, ME, Burlington VT, and the newly opened pub in Portsmouth, NH.  www.NOWisNOW.com has the schedule.

Oh yeah...one other show which bears listing up front: I'll be doing a 45 minute solo acoustic set at The Bitter End in New York City on Saturday, May 16th, 7:30pm.  I can't even begin to explain how psyched I am about getting down there again!  If you're in the area, please come.  It's SUCH an awesome time.  And please note the earlier start time; they have a bigger act coming in (I guess this guy must be 9 feet tall) so I had to accomodate.

All right...happy spring, enjoy the seasonal transitions, and never stop smiling.

peace, love, & hugs,
~mitch

Top of the morning to ya!  Another season turns, elation is in the air, and self reflection spills over with the positive.  In other words, I'd like to thank you guys from the super interior of my heart for helping me make this year one of the most fulfilling years ever.  I'm fast approaching my one year anniversary of pursuing music full time...holy canolies - YAY! and life couldn't rule more.  You all are fantastic and I am so humbled by your personal smiles each time I make eye contact with you while I'm performing, by your super fun emails, and by your admiration of the NOW sound.  Thank you :)

All right...some cool winter news: starting December 9th through March, I'll be doing a solo acoustic show every Tuesday  from 7 - 11 at the phoenix house and well, just across from South Ridge Lodge at Sunday River Ski Area.  I'm super excited about being up there weekly and hope you can join me for some killer turns by day followed by good times in the evening.  FUN!!!

The band is also flourishing in all sorts of inspiring ways.  We have a few new originals in the rotation which showcase what musical longevity can do for the soul...it's neat.   A few venues to catch these cool sounds:

December 27th, 9pm - the red parka pub, Glen, NH
January 3rd, 10pm - the red parka pub, Portland, ME
January 10th, 9pm - the phoenix house and well, Newry, ME

Additional solo acoustic, acoustic duo, and full band shows are updated at NOWisNOW.com - but you already know that :)  I do my best to keep the NOW playing page updated several months in advance, but due to the large amounts of fun I plan on having this winter, I'll likely slip a little...doh!  so if you're looking further ahead than I can keep up, please drop me an email.

I guess that's all the babbling there is to do this morning...Time to go out and run around with the doggy and then get going to tonight's show.  Until I get to sing to you again, keep in time, keep in tune, and never stop smiling.

peace, love, and a beautiful holiday season to you all,
~mitch

Here's to wishing you a very happy September!  And here we are again.  Another fun and crazy summer winds down and we all feel like we just got here.  They say that when you're a kid, summertime lasts forever because your constantly doing different things and learning so much.  I must say, at 38, I'm doing many different things these days and learning much daily...and summer still flies by - But it's still all so good :)

First and foremost, I want to say THANK YOU SO MUCH!...I've seen so many of you at many of my shows this summer that I can't contain my happiness and gratitude.  It's so neat to get random hugs, get some hang time in, and the best part: I get to sing to you...often.  It keeps my heart full and my dreams happening...Life rules!  I truly hope I'm giving back to you while you guys help me live this wonderful life of music.

All right...Neil, Charlie, and I are continuing to rock and roll weekly...discovering new favorite places to play and still loving some of the regular venues.  And as the deck solo shows slowly migrate to solo apres ski shows (did someone say ski!!!), my excitement for singing grows even further.  Please make sure to check out www.NOWisNOW.com weekly so you know where to catch the band or a solo show; I do my best to update this page the first of each week.

Another fun thing happening is how the band is evolving...There's a very cool and different wall of sound happening these days.  It's neat to hear how the collective tones are more melodic coupled with the vibe of 3 instruments & 3 vox from 3 folks.  If you haven't seen the Neil/Charlie/Mitch format yet, I promise you you'll be smiling within minutes of the first notes played...please let us sing to you.

And I want to also say a special thanks to my honey, Dylan...we just celebrated our 10 year wedding anniversary.  Holy canolies!  And I think Summer flew by...where did the last 10 amazing years go?  what fun!  We celebrated by visiting the Saugenay Fjord (about 4 hours north of Quebec City).  If any of you like whale watching, this place is whale overload - if there is such a thing.  Aside from our 10 year kiss, I think the highlight of our trip was when a humpback leaped out of the water 100 feet off the bow of our 12 person zodiac raft.

Another note of positivity: Obama.  Nuff said.

Have a wonderful September, you guys!  And please check www.NOWisNOW.com weekly.  And again, thank you so much for helping me live my dream.  I live a life of love & gratitude and I couldn't be happier sharing it all with you.

peace, love, & hugs,
~mitch

Top of the mornin to y'all!  Hope this little note finds you well and amazing.  SO much good happening all the time.  Beach deck solo shows, duo shows with Neil on the Portsmouth party boat, and full band shows with our new bassist extra-ordinaire, Charlie...and lets not forget all the great stuff with our families and re-connected friends.  When so much good is going on, time seems to just hurl through our universe and blow our minds...is it really June 25th?  holy canolies.  I'm still changing over my dresser to summer clothes and putting my warm stuff away...and then the summer solstice sneaks up on me!  I guess this should be the worst of my problems :)

When I first went full time music, I was a little hesitant to book so many shows in such a small regional area...I don't want y'all to get sick of me singing to you!  But as each one of you show up to random shows with friends galore, it makes me smile SO big.   It's now obvious I made the right decision.  Singing 5  - 8 shows a week lifts my spirits, pacifies everything which is chaotic, and is just plain fun.  Thank you so much for helping me make this happen.

You all are GREAT!

Some quickly listed shows through August:

Every Wednesday, mitch & neil are on the www.islesofshoals.com party boat from 7 - 10, every Thursday, mitch is on the www.oobpier.com from 2 - 6, and every Sunday, mitch is on the deck at www.portlandlobstercompany.com from noon - 4.  And of course, there are shows every Friday and Sat. night, whether solo, duo, or the power trio (which if you haven't seen us with our new friend and bassist, Charlie, please come down...it's quite the treat); please check the schedule by clicking on my ugly mug.

Oh yeah, some other kickin news - My next NYC solo show has been booked: Saturday, November 15th, www.bitterend.com @ 8pm.

All right!  Off to sing 7 hours worth of music today!  I love the double gig days...4 hours on the beach and 3 hours on the party boat.  Life does indeed rule :)

May you each find happiness in each beautiful day...

peace, love, & hugs,

ps.  please spread the good word!!!

Top of the morning to ya! I hope to find you smiling at the sun and easing into Summertime's transition. I still can't quite grasp my head around the fact that a month ago, there was still 4 feet of snow in my backyard...That which was frozen now elicits life. I love it!

Speaking of transition, I wanted to let y'all know that bass guru Drew Wyman is moving on to the next phase of his life...it's been a great 3 years making music together. A simply fantastic journey with a focused, real, and inspiring person. We'll miss jamming with you, Drew! But wait - joining the NOW sound in the next phase of his life is guru bassist Charlie Roth...and we can't wait to bring this fresh sound to the stage.

Did you say the stage? gigs! gigs!! gigs!!! I'm so excited for all the music making happening as there are 70 plus shows on the books through the end of August. Yes, we like to play :) If you feel like catching us this summer, please click on my ugly mug or visit www.NOWisNOW.com/nowPlaying.htm and take your pick(s). Choices throughout ME, NH, & VT include mitch solo acoustic, mitch & neil performing as an acoustic duo, or the mitch-neil-charlie power trio. FUN!

And on a good vibe / fuzzy feeling in the belly note, I want to again thank everyone who I sing to on a regular basis. Ever since going full time music back in December, I've had the chance to meet countless great people...true music fans. It is SO much fun to sing to you night after night. Without you, I'd be in a cube :) YOU ALL RULE!!!

Think sun! Think music! Think happiness!

Hey you guys!  It seems like forever since I’ve written y’all.  Since going full time music this past December, life has been a whirwind of wonderfullness...though I must admit, it was a little scary at first when seeing a schedule of 4 - 6 gigs/week with some days having afternoon & evening shows 100 miles apart from each other.  But as it has turned out, I’ve found a very useful payoff in training for this past October’s marathon: much needed stamina :)  It’s so much fun...rocking out at 100% on an almost daily basis is so good for the soul.  I highly recommend it.

I know I know...life’s great, all is amazing, do do do do do...yes, I’ve said this a thousand times before (and really feel it).  But since early 2008, I’ve found additional reasons for thinking this way.  My step dad, who prided himself on living life to its fullest, fell ill with cancer and died rather quickly a few weeks ago.  cancer sucks, by the way...  anyway, we had some great conversation about spending our precious time here in ways which make us happy.  We had some good talks about the ’cash thing’ and modern life’s demands and then connected on the simple fact that after these basics are accounted for, it’s all about choice...and one must choose well :) His sickness and quick death only made my choice feel that much more true...I have never been so clearly on the ’path of the beam’ before.  It’s euphoric.  With these very positive thoughts, might I please beg a favor of you all?  Please make that right choice.  If not for yourself, then for my "step’s" legacy... thanks :)

all right...a short gig summary:

The band has a couple more shows at Woodstock Station (this weekend), as well as another Phoenix Saturday and Red Parka weekend as spring skiing picks up at the hills. Ri~Ra - Portland continues to rock and roll every 6 weeks or so and Ri~Ra Burlington starts back up in May along with another Dolphin Striker and Chit Chat Lounge show.

On the acoustic side, Neil and I are doing a couple of  acoustic-duo shows at Delaney’s in North Conway and I’m starting back up solo at The Frog & Turtle and The Stockhouse in Westbrook.  Other solo venues include The Tack Room, The Gas Light deck, Cafe Sebago & Sud’s.  I’ve also been booked for a special one hour acoustic solo show at The Bitter End in New York City, Friday, May 2nd, 8pm...FUN!

For a complete list of dates through the end of May and additional gig info, please visit www.NOWisNOW.com/nowPlaying.htm or www.myspace.com/mitchalden

It would be neat to sing to you again.

Enjoy this endless winter, everyone...ski, run, smile, love...

Top of the morning to ya! 8am, on a cool, beautiful, and sunny Thursday the 31st. Hope this note is treating y'all well and amazing. Winter seems to be moving along at quite the crazy pace. Between acoustic shows, full band shows, skiing, running, and finally, some days off with Dylan, my life has become a whirwind of wonderful-ness (I love using this word!). It also seems that my silliness to run that marathon last fall is paying off in the form of stamina; I've played over 25 shows since Dec. 27th and couldn't feel stronger. Guess I'm gonna have to sign up for another one to keep this all going :)

Man o man, this F/T musician thing has me in the best of spirits - can you tell? Thank you for listening to me babble all these past emails about the goal to be in the position I'm in right now. My ability to type out my thoughts and know that neat folks like you have been reading them and encouraging me forward has been more helpful than you know. you all RULE!

Category: Friends

Hey you crazy kids!  Almost 5pm Sunday night...I've rounded the corner at the corporate gig and officially have 10 working days left until my new life starts.  I can't tell you how amazing and inspired I feel...It's super neat with all the shows I've taken that I can say "I have lots of work coming in..." but when I get in my truck and head to a gig, I'm "going to play."  It's taken me 20 + years of experimentation and hard work to figure out how to balance music and responsibility.  My hopes are this will continue forever...cause I love seeing y'all at shows and the more I play, the more chances I'll have of seeing you :)

Other killer news, Neil is a daddy...weehooo!!!  Zac, the little lizard boy, was brought into this world on Tuesday, 12/4.  Wife Suzanne and he are doing great.  "Fantabulous!" as Neil likes to put it.  Psyched for them is an understatement!

And snow!  in December!  I know I know...it's supposed to happen that way, but since it doesn't much anymore, there's real reason for excitement.  Look out wintertime...this non day gig guitar player is seeking to take full advantage of you!
